DAY 2
I was able to find the Exclusive Raiden figure so no worries there!
Pained Auron - Ah, the blank Secret Invasion issue. At first I couldn’t find it but I located the blank Fallen Son issue. I left that with Apathy-Inc - who BTW is a really cool guy in person, and also a great artist too - who left it with his friend Marvel artist David Nakayama so he could sketch Deadpool on it. I left him with some Deadpool reference too. And wouldn’t you know it! The second I did that I saw the blank Secret Invasion #1 issue a little while after! So I returned much later in the day and David Nakayama still hadn’t done the Deadpool sketch yet, so I was able to buy the blank Secret Invasion issue and swap it out with the Fallen Son issue. Yeah don’t worry about it, I will get a Shuma-Gorath sketch on the blank Fallen Son issue eventually for myself, but I will have to get all of my Shuma-Gorath reference ready so that will be for my next con. :looney: Left the book with David and I should pick it up tomorrow morning and your Deadpool sketch should be on it’s way. Once again, an extra special thanks to Apathy-Inc for helping me out with this whole ordeal. Yeah, my quest for this blank Secret Invasion #1 issue is a heck of a lot longer than I’m typing out, just ask me another time for the full story because I don’t want to bore everyone else with this one at the moment.
I was on the main floor for a much longer period. Yeah I asked Konami and they said they were not handing out any MGS4 demos, at all, sorry! Yeah Konami was rocking the Online MGS game, a Hellboy game, one of their dancing games and the Track & Field remake for the Nintendo DS that has character designs by Omar Dogan of Studio Udon! Wasn’t able to play Track & Field because it was swamped so I’ll try to get my hands on that tomorrow.
Squeenix didn’t have any games from what I saw, just toys. And I really didn’t see Namco/Bandai. Namco/Bandai comes to the NY Digital Life show every year, any questions ask me to relay it to them then when that rolls around. Not sure if they are at NYCC this year but they are a heck of a lot more visible at Digital Life.
Stuff I got - I left my list at home of comics I was searching for but I found a lot just going by memory. I picked up Blackheart’s origin and a bunch of comics with Blackheart! I also got Web of Spider-Man #100 which features the Spider-Armor he has in MSH vs. SF. Yeah, lots of my back issue purchases are related to Capcom’s Marvel games somehow. I got a pretty cool Naruto poster from Bleedman who did the online Powerpuff Girls doujinshi, pretty wicked! They were also selling Spawn #1 in 3D with glasses and I just love gimmicks!
I saw Cebulski and I got Compass #1 signed by himself and the Japanese artist behind it whose name escapes me right now. Hey Cebulski speaks Japanese! Course that makes sense since he did translate Spider-Man The Manga lol! Told him once again (I say this whenever I see him) how I love the Marvel Fairy Tales comics and he said after Avengers Fairy Tales that Fantastic Four was next, YIPPEE!
As an aside today I wore a shirt that had lots of Spider-Man covers on it (yesterday I wore a Nightwing T-Shirt, man am I predictable ha ha) and everyone really liked it. My running joke whenever I was complimented on the shirt was “Some of these stories are still in continuity!” Hey some of the issues on the shirt did take place before the marriage, so yeah…
I MET DAVID MICHELINIE! Man I totally geeked out. I told him how when I was a kid Amazing Spider-Man #300 had such a grand effect on me, so much so that I stopped buying Spider-Man for a while becauset the time I felt they would never top that issue (hey man I was like 12 LOL)! David game me the “Oh no that’s not good” face and I assured him that I did go back to pick up 301 - 311 eventually lol! He complimented me on my Spidey shirt saying that I’m obviously a big Spider-Man fan and I said yeah even though I’m not such a big fan of what Marvel is doing with the character now. He assured me, “There’s always back issues!”
First panel I attended was a DC one and Morrison was present. Morrison is a freaking RIOT! He was asked if Nightwing was going to show up in Batman and he said that Nightwing was going to be in the next issue. And then he said “There’s going to be a lot of Dick in Batman.”
DC gave me another pin, this time with some blue-skin / blue suited guy I’ve never seen before, it looked almost like a Blue Lantern??? The pin said “I AM BATMAN” just like the Nightwing one I got yesterday. I asked the guy who gave me the pin who it was and they responded “Batman.” Okay now I don’t know what’s going on and I’m just being toyed with here but now I don’t know if Nightwing’s gonna take over the Batman role or not, who knows… :wonder:
This was brought up yesterday but I forgot, though it was raised once again today. Gail Simone was asked about the future of Wonder Woman. She said that scientists have discovered a way to defeat Wonder Woman and they considered the Amazons, a ‘failed experiment.’ So they came up with a new Wonder Woman to beat Wonder Woman up, only the new Wonder Woman is a man. Didio kept trying to push for the male Wonder Woman to be called Manazon, a product of the new Amazons (male Amazons = Manazons) but Gail was dead set against that name, even hating that she had to use that name as a working title for a time.
After that I attended a Robotech panel where they talked about upcoming stuff. They mentioned the Shadow Chronicles newest edition that will also contain Robotech 3000, a short lived CGI Robotech sequel made years ago but was never released for various reasons. There’s a special version of the Shadow Chronicles DVD that will come with a Hologram cover, but we all got the Hologram cover FOR FREE just for going up and asking a question. I also got myself a Robotech shirt! Yeah by the time I got to ask my question, people already took all of the toys and good stuff, D’OH! Well can’t complain. It’s a pretty cool dress shirt with the Robotech logo. :lovin: I just asked about Rand and Rook, my favorite Robotech characters coming back in a Shadow Chronicles sequel and was told that it was a possibility.
And oh yeah, Shadow Chronicles is coming to BLU-RAY BABY!
The biggest news of the Robotech panel was not only are they working on a Shadow Chronicles sequel but Warner Bros. is working on a live action movie! :wow: They mentioned how there’s huge names attached to it but they are not allowed to reveal anything. They did say that Tobey McGuire is gonna be in it! Man I LOVE the Spider-Man movies and if Tobey plays Rick Hunter and does some emo dancing I’m gonna be on cloud 9.
Next up was the full on Grant Morrison panel! OMG that guy is too freaking funny and had me laughing the entire time! He talked about his rampant drug use, man Morrison on Acid is actually the truth! :looney: Of the ton of things he said, he mentioned that one time he was high and he dressed up like a woman, and then he told us “I was HOT! I WOULD FUCK ME!” There was so much goodness during his panel, a lot of it bordered on lots of psychological themes and just outright craziness that I really wouldn’t do justice trying to repeat here. Morrison OWNS!
Ah yeah, time for the Marvel panel, Cup of Joe!
I forgot to mention yesterday but Spidey616 of Newsarama fame was at like every Marvel panel and asked JQ lots of questions man that kid’s a legend at 'Rama, got a standing ovation from crowds. :woot:
That kid at NYCC last year who asked about Venom taking over the Hulk last came back this year and asked if JQ remembered, I yelled that I remembered which got laughs and a bunch of claps ha ha! Man that little guy has some ideas lol! JQ said not at this time but it looks like he has to do the story now since the crowd was all for it.
I got up to ask my question. Respectfully I thanked JQ for making Marvel such an interesting place during his tenure. Even when things happen that we don’t like, it brings up a lot of discussion and people get passionate about it and that’s really important. Man no matter what I can never fully hate on a fellow Latino, that’s how I roll.
First thing I asked him about was the possibility of Stephen Colbert becoming the next President of the United States. Hmm, not sure if someone brought that up in his forum but yeah, Stephen Colbert is actually running for President in the Marvel Universe! JQ said it was a plot so he could get back on his show. He then mentioned what a big fan Stephen Colbert was of Civil War and lots of Marvel books. Someone else at the Marvel panel pointed out that on Stephen Colbert’s site there’s a blog of him running for President in Marvel and it’s written by Marvel. Crazy! :looney:
Next I asked JQ if we were going to see Shuma-Gorath again. JQ said “Who?”
I told him that he was an elder god, a big eye with lots of tentacles. JQ said “NO. I hate it already.”
Someone at the Marvel panel, I can’t remember who also asked Dan Slott if he had any plans for Shuma-Gorath, which just lead to more laughter from the crowd! Ack MVC2 fans, I’m trying here!
BTW Dan Slott does an awesome impression of the Thing. If you ever see him ask him to do it! He sounds like everyone who has ever played Thing in every Fantastic Four cartoon along with the movie version all rolled into one.
Someone right behind me asked about Marvel making Marvel vs. Capcom 3. JQ said that this was the second time someone asked about that (hey that was me yesterday, only I asked for a comic lol I’m famous ) but he said that he has nothing to do with video games, just with publishing comics. Hey that’s two MVC type questions at the show, it’s all good now everyone keep bugging Marvel about it at cons and who knows, it can’t hurt! Next year I will wear a fake mustache and ask about a MVC comic again.
When asked about Skrulls JQ admitted that he was a Skrull. He said the real JQ would never have done OMD.
The best part was when STAN THE MAN LEE walked into the panel! Man I was SO HAPPY because I missed Stan’s panel this morning, but I will try to catch his Sunday panel. Standing ovations all around and the first thing he did was walk up to the mike and in an angry voice he said “I WANT TO KNOW WHO WAS IT THAT MADE SPIDER-MAN SINGLE AGAIN?”
He then said seriously that he thought it was a great idea. He shook JQ’s hand. Next Stan talked about JQ and said that he loved the guy, even though he had no redeemable qualities whatsoever.
Stan left after we all gave him another standing ovation, man WHERE would we be without Stan? :lovin:
JQ followed that by telling a story of how Stan Lee tends to call him up from the blue and say “This is Stan Lee.” like as if JQ doesn’t know who Stan Lee is. He also did a really good Stan Lee impersonation while saying that Stan always tells him on the phone, “I just read the last three months of Marvel comics. Joe, WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?”
After that I hung out with Orochizoolander, who really came through getting food while I was waiting on line to seeing the TM Revolution concert. Man if you ever get the chance to hang out with Orochizoolander please do so, homeboy will hook you up!
HELL YEAH! That’s right TM Revolution had a concert. I didn’t pay no hundred bucks to see it, joint was FREE AT THE CON! Yeah they are J-Pop band and the lead singer looks… REALLY GIRLY but ah well they get a pass for singing a Rurouni Kenshin song. :karate:
So they busted out their Gundam Seed songs and showed clippings from the anime on the screen! They even played the song they had on the Japanese dub of the Spider-Man 2 movie, the coolest thing was when they played that song red and blue lights were on the stage. See man this was comic book related WHAT? They played a song no one’s heard of yet for a new anime called Soul Reaver, and showed us footage for that anime! Next they played their song from the Capcom 3D game Sengoku Basara (Devil Kings) and showed cut scenes from the game while they played that song! Hell yeah I always find Capcom related things at these shows, the fanboy in me was happy!
They went through all of their songs and everyone was screaming for “Heart of Sword,” the song from the Rurouni Kenshin anime that they are best known for. They sung it dead last and HELL YEAH THEY SHOWED IMAGES OF RUROUNI KENSHIN ALONG WITH SAGARA SANOSUKE, WHERE MY NET NAME COMES FROM AND HE’S THE GUY IN MY AVATAR!" Maaaang I was clapping along and sung all of the lyrics to the song along with the band man, LOVE RUROUNI KENSHIN you just don’t know.:tup::tup::tup::tup:
THIS CON RULES! I really had a blast today. Most def gonna hit up the Stan Lee panel tomorrow and another one Morrison is at along with buying old books, and the party continues!
