The Official Convention Thread

They said something about moving the area where they watch movies because the dealers complained it was too loud and they couldnt hear their customers.

Rueben Langdon I would have much more in common. The martial arts stunt thing and Capcom love. He needs to come to the east coast. I think NYCC or NYAF has a thing where you cna request guests. We should get the DMC fans on here or capcomunity to send a jillion requests for Rueben at the NYCC+NYAF convention. Just tell them he’s like Jesus + sliced bread + more. We could totally get him to come.

You can see all of the pictures I took at the NY Anime Festival here.

I am so pumped about MOC tomorrow!

got back from MOC.

I’m exhausted so a full report will be forthcoming, but I DID get a sketch of my favorite character by my favorite artist, so that’s a little brag-worthy.

also, TONS of great deals on comics.

Anyway, here’s the sketch!

Nice! At the NY Con this year Nuack was one of those guys whose sketch request list filled up really quick. He does take sketch requests on his website (even full body ones) so I might take him up on that one day. Love his American Dream and his new Clone Saga stuff! When I saw him at the NY Con I yelled “AMERICAN DREAM RULES!” He was happy that someone knew who she was heh!

Nauck’s popularity has really exploded now that he’s a regular on Spider-Man, and because he did that Obama story.

the line was pretty long at MOC, and I was the LAST one in line, which is why my sketch is a little better (he added the ‘thumbs up’ because I was willing to hold his “Sorry, I’m the last one in line” sign for over two hours).

I just wanted my favorite character by my favorite artist, he did not disappoint, though he did do some really awesome characters as well. I saw him do Pixie from the New X-Men, and Razorback, both of which he had never done before, so he made sure to get pictures of 'em!

very nice guy to talk to, and Dawn (his wife) was just as much fun. It was a very enjoyable experience, and Todd was a very gracious guest!, I wish him all the best, and good luck in everything he does!.

There was a TON of Wildguard fans at the con, so he did a fair share of Wildguard and Young Justice sketches. I saw a really great Impulse sketch, and after having seen it, was half-tempted to ask for Impulse myself.

I went with Kid Flash ultimately (same character, different costume), because I already had Impulse by Ale Garza, so I let Todd handle his other signature look.

he does take sketch requests on his site, but BE WARNED, he has a HUGE workload, especially now that he’s becoming a big name in the industry. He says the average turnaround for a Commission is a year. I think that’s a full-body commission, however, and not the common con sketch type portraits.

he does work fast, much faster than your average artist, still, the average time once a person got to the front of his line was 20 minutes for the sketch.

Collected all of my original art and sketches in one place

So who all went to the inaugural Long Beach Comic Con? (I didn’t) Thoughts and pics?

next convention you guys are goin to?

for me it’s prolly Pittsburgh 2010.

though, there’s a small show in Pittsburgh in November, that I might go to. Technically it’s not a convention.

Looks like one ticket to the 2010 NY Anime Festival will let you into the NY Comic Convention! Sweet! Tickets for the NY Anime Festival are on sale now.

yeah i hear ya. i have lots of those in my state mostly just to sell old issues. im picturing 40-50 yr old fat dudes getting angry for looking at their stock for too long w/o buying

John Romita Sr. and Jr. will be the Guests Of Honor at the New York Comic Con in 2010! :clapdos:

APE is coming up in a couple weekends. Dean Haspiel will be at the Isotope for an afterparty. I’ll see if I have anything else to do, and if not, I’ll try to go again this year.

there is a video game convention in philly anyone goin to that? supposed to be big and there will be other related events there too (Street Fighter, anime, cosplay, etc)

Roy Thomas has been announced as a guest at Pittsburgh 2010.

I dig writers, I really do, and I’ve met a TON of them, but I never know what to say or do when I meet them.

with artists I can always ask for a sketch (at least the ones who DO sketch).

I understand not all artists can, due to immense popularity, or an inability due to age, but at least I can talk art with them.

with writers, it’s different. I always chat with ‘em, but I rarely get anything signed. I really need to get a book for writers’ signatures. I have a copy of DC Comics: 60 years of the world’s greatest comic book heroes, but it’s more stuff to lug around a crowded con hall, y’know?

Wound up going to this. The cheapest seats weren’t bad lol, we were on the same level as the orchestra and the movie screen so no problems hearing or seeing anything. The orchestra had about 300 members and they played all of the music from the film. The entire movie was subtitled for the few parts where the orchestra drowned out the audio but surprisingly that hardly ever happened, maybe twice or so. After the first 2 hours there was a 40 minute intermission. I wish they did that when this flick was in theaters so I wouldn’t have fallen asleep! Even stayed through the ending credits since they had a lady and a little kid sing the songs to the ending. Really nice. Best way to describe it is like going to an opera, that doesn’t suck.

If you’ve seen the movie already it’s nothing major since they play the music pretty much exactly the way it is on film. It’s still a lot of fun if you have the extra cash and stuff.

They are going to do the same thing next year for the second LOTR film and that will occur October 8 and 9th, right before the NYAM and NYCC cons start! If you are coming to the city then it will be an extra thing to attend if you want! :cybot:

October 25th at the Beacon Theater they will have Video Games Live! An orchestra will perform music from these games.

I’ll toss up my Spidey/Venom sketch on the weekend most likely, keep forgetting.

I am going with the preview day, is anyone even going ?

Here’s that Spider-Man / Venom Dark Avengers cover sketch I purchased online from Randy Emberlin. Only cost 20 bucks!

Marvel’s hosting an event called “Marvel Fest” at Union Square in NYC on October 28 where they will show off a motion comic of Astonishing X-Men on a big screen. Not really my thing so I’ll pass. Note that it’s a FREE event if anyone is interested.
