Yeah. Beetle, Booster, and Guy Gardner: the troika of laughs. Those old JLI/JLE comics were by Giffen/DeMatteis (and most of the early JLI were drawn by Maguire) so you know it’s gold.
Kickass. Did Giffen do all 68 issues of JLI/JLE or only the first few? If he was only on for a certain period, what issues make up Giffen’s run?
I don’t know which exact issues Giffen/DeMatteis cowrote, but I believe they lasted for a good long run. You can probably do some Googling and find out exactly. I think the writing team was changed in the early '90s when the grim ‘n’ gritty boom got underway. (Justice League Task Force and EXTREME JUSTICE! Hahaha.) I know the tone of the book changed around the time of The Death of Superman story.
and basically everyone from JLI has either died or turned evil
^I noticed, what have the JLI ever done to DiDio I wonder?
heh.
that seemed like some sort of inside joke for DC during Infinite Crisis.
actually, Ice has been back…and still having relationship problems with Guy in GLC.
That’s why he isn’t evil.
I need to reads me some Sandman and Hellboy.
You need to pick up the first four or five Hellboy trade with the quickness. I absolutely love Mignola’s art, I’m totally his bitch forever.
I haven’t read much Sandman yet though…it remains my greatest failing (among many) as a comic book fan.
Predator Omnibus vol. 2 - I was disappointed in this one. The shorter stories were cool but stuff like Race War did not live up to what I remembered. Vol. 1 was much more solid.
X-Factor: Heart of Ice - Cant really go wrong with Peter David although feels like book is losing a little bit of steam.
Batman: Faces - classic Matt Wagner work, interesting visual take on Batman. Freaks portion reminds me of Basket Case 2.
Wolverine: Death of wolverine
It was a great read and i enjoyed it. Marc guggenheim is awesome of course.
Wolverine Origins: Savior
It was decent read but why must the MU revolve around wolverine is beyond me though. Now he met Black Widow when she was a child?
The Order: The next right thing
I’ll admit that i have softspot for unknown D-list heroes. It was okay. The leader though is a bit of whining fucktard but hey. The names of the heroes are just not memorable at all. I only know the crippled guy and his name is supernaut. Wow that is such a lame name.
All-Star Batman & Robin, the Boy Wonder, vol. 1
Man oh man this is beyond great. I must purchase this and get the individual issues. I loved Batman line where he calls GL a moron and bashing him about him using the ring, calling themiscrya lesbo island is just funny. “What are dense? Are You retarded or something? Who the hell do you think I am? Im the goddamn Batman!”
Incognegro
Was okay it is basically a story about a mixed guy reporting about lynching and the such. it wasnt spectacular though. Alot of cursing in too. It was meh to me
Thor, vol. 1
by JMS
I enjoyed it. I read Issue 1-3 a while ago. it was refreshing reading JMS as well. I like how he is making them being apart of this small town in oklahoma.
Local hardcover is the shit

Well that’s my final plug for the election lol! Rock the vote!
So I finally got around to reading “Gunslinger Born” and “Long Road Home” from Marvel/Stephen King’s Dark Tower series. And I’m kind of torn between disappointment and satisfaction.
Disappointment, because although Jae Lee’s pencilwork is good, the coloring makes everything look flat and static. Every panel lack motion. And satisfaction, because some scenes are just plain awesome (Roland vs. Cort), and the dialogue is great (i.e. everything in Long Road Home).
. . .overall, the series isn’t too bad, though. It’s relatively in tune with the overall tone of the DT universe, so that’s good. Anyone else been reading this?
I havent gotten to Long Road Home yet but I agree with your assessment. I would like to see a less reverent approach to the material that is more in line with traditional comic books.
Oh, and WOOT WOOT! I finally got Blitz and Crossfire off of ebay for a decent price! In your face pained auron!
Picked up Demo over the summer but forgot to big it up here. I expected big things based off the creative team (Brian Wood+Becky Cloonan) but this book blew me away. I could try to explain how good Demo is but i would never do it justice, just cop it when you have the chance.
yup yup…and if you loved Demo, be sure you pick up dat Local hardcover I mentioned a few posts back.
Demo and Local are probably my favorite Brian Wood comics. I got the first volume of Northlanders a while ago, and that was very good, too. It’s nothing really similar to any of his other works. And it was cheap - the first eight issues for only ten bucks.
Demo felt kinda emo to me

Punisher Omnibus is ST Gouki Tier.
Man, I would so buy that if I didn’t already have Ennis’ entire run in trade format :amazed:
