The Official ATP Tennis thread

Too sad at least I am.

my thoughts on wimbledon so far…

not too big of a surprise seeing the fed out, he wasn’t playing well the whole tournament, everyone who faced him was probably more confident because of that, I dont see it as much of a big deal, he is 29 now, married father of twin girls, and he really doesn’t have anything to prove anymore, he still will go down as the greatest ever, i think he still has 3 or 4 slams left in him before its all said and done

stifler getting taken was a BIG surprise for me, it was a combination of Lu playing with nothing to lose, and roddick choking hard, roddick is going to take this one hard, esp. since the fed is not goin to be in the finals, this really could of been his year

looks like its going to be nadal vs murray, and djokovic vs berdych, in the semis

it would seem Nadal is the favorite to win, but all the other guys are playing really good, i still think nadal is goin to take it

like ive stated before i want murray to win esp. at winbledon, and if he does beat nadal in the semis i like him to take it. momentum will be too strong.

I just thought about something. You know how players mistakingly set their opponents up to come to the net to unleash a virtually unreturnable spike or volley? Well, typically players stay back at or behind the baseline in hopes of maybe dashing in the right direction (left or right) to get a lucky return. But I was thinking… WHY don’t players at least SOMETIMES dash to the net to meet their opponent RIGHT at the net and simply go for something that I’d say is analogous to a basketball player putting their hands up to block a dunk? I mean, wouldn’t players have a BETTER chance at blocking the ball if they met the spiker at the net? If they don’t block the ball, you’ve gotta think that they would at least put a greater level of pressure on the opponent to the point they could miss it out of intimidation, no?

  1. because volleying is easier said than done.
  2. because if your set up shot is not that deep/fast that your opponent could pass you on either side of the court or do a lob if you come in too close.

If you run up to challenge the net player, you will most likely be stuck in no man’s land. Given that they hit an acceptable approach shot, to properly defend it, you will most likely be a few steps/feet behind the baseline. If you dash forward, by the time they hit their volley, they will have countless angles to them including directly at your feet resulting in you popping up your defensive volley for an even easier put away shot. It’s just not a good idea.

Berdych to the finals! I want Murray to win I think. Rather have a new player win a slam.

is the era of nadal about to start?

rafa takes it fairly easily in 3 straight sets.

I believe so, it seems he’s getting that invincible 'aura" that people used the think about the fed, only thing left for nadal is to win the U.S. Open, going to be hard tho, he’s proven he can win on the hard court by winning the Austrailian Open once, but hard courts favor big servers, which neutralizes nadals game, and their are so many big server killers out there, love watching nadals style tho, the fed is finesse and grace, nadal is ruthless when he plays tho, sounds like he’s trying to beat that tennis ball ass

I dont know what to think of the fed tho, I truly believe he isnt done yet, Doesn’t look like his physical skills are diminishing he just isnt executing and hitting the ball right, I think fed has about 3 or 4 slams left in him. 2 at the least,

Yeah Fed said he was injured. The US Open court is more difficult for Nadal since it’s the end of the season and he’s in less than perfect health condition. Also it’s a lot faster than the Australian Open court which makes it a little more difficult. It’s so weird to see Federer at #3 considering Djokovic does nothing.

I have to concur about this. Federer now becoming 29 is considered “old” for a tennis player. He still has great speed & great moves, but seeing that he wasn’t playing that well this tournament, its only a matter of time before his #1 ranking he loses. Probably to Nadal!

He’s beaten Federer before and is very hungry.

The Williams sisters losing in doubles tournament to unranked players was a surprise to everyone. They’ve won like 5 or 6 times in the last 10 years.

Wonder if Isner & Mahut will play each other inthe future? And how long that match will prolong?

Um…nadal has been #1 since the french open…

Fed just looks mentally out of it. 29 isn’t the end of the world, there have been players before him to play well after 30. IMO fed just looks like he isn’t hitting the ball as crisp and hard as he used to. His footwork actually looks ok but he seems to have a loss of power. Last year’s US, the french and wimbledon he all lost to players who hit “harder” than him. He’s getting hit off the court literally.

I wouldn’t put my money on Nadal to win the US. I think either Joker, Fed or …gasp Davydenko will win it. As far as i’m concerned Roddick is done as far as title contentions go. I wish Del Po wasn’t injured, that guy is a monster.

i like murray winning a title before the joke wins another one.

Nadal is half way there to Federer in Grand Slams now.

joker is not going to be winning u.s. open.

im outi

I think Federer over Murray.

That tweener was unreal.

o wow. for those of you who do not have access to watch this, the us open will be streaming matches all tournament long. with the ability to chose up to 5 different courts to watch from. its actually a really good stream also.
