I seen OR/Cable/sent
Omega builds super bar meters like a fiend Cable uses the meter and can do it pretty safely with sent drones and Omega is one of my better people! Good suggestion Dizzy I am definitely gonna steal that team
Does Spiral/Strider/Doom work?
I want a good rushdown team… Im kind of tired of sitting on spamming swords, it gets boring.
Also, what is a good high-tier team with Clops?
Spiral/Strider/Doom is a decent team. Spiral can rush down. Hell I play a rushdown spiral. She can be just as fun as Magneto once you get use to it. The team’s whole focus is to get them in a corner though. That’s where Spiral can trap with doom’s assist, that’s where Strider turns into a freaking monster, thats where you win ultimately.
Cyclops…omg where can I start. What about with…
Storm/Sent/Cyke
Cyclops/Cable/Doom
Spiral/Cable/Cyclops
Spiral/IM/Cyclops
Cyclops/cable/IM
IM/Cyclops/Doom
Cable/Sent/Cyclops
Gambit/Sent/Cyclops
Rouge/Cyclops/Tron
Magneto/Storm/Cyclops
Dhalsim/Doom/Cyclops
and my favorite
Ruby/Cyclops/Doom
Cyclops works better with Doom, Sent, Storm, and IM. So either Sent/storm/Cyke or Cyke/Cable/IM.
No. People will tell you otherwise.
MSP - Strider and Spiral aren’t really rushdown characters.
Storm / Sent / Cyclops.
I agree to an extent. Spiral and Strider can rushdown. IMO Strider is more of a rushdown character than a projectile one.
Spiral: This thread is good for learning up close and personal Spiral

Strider: Have you seen this guy in the corner? He’s a monster.
http://www.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=22126
Learning the corner game is really good for Strider.
He’s more than spamming tigers and falcons till you get meter to use orbs. Strider teleporting with Sentinel’s drones can put alot of pressure on characters. His air fierces have tons of priority, and he has among the quickest moves in the game. Oh, also the guy is among the 5 fastest characters in the game. He’s a rushdown.
Also, Cyclops is so versatile that he can be in so many good teams. Cyclops’ assist can support just about everybody in the game. The best team for him is in fact Matrix, and I totally agree with you on that, but he can be in 10+ different teams and the teams can be good.
I might of took Elderdruid’s question out of context. So I will correct it if I got it wrong. The best rushdown team is MSP. But other good one’s are:
Clockwork
MSS
MSP
MST
Row
RST
Combofiend
Team Julius Jackson (WM/IM/Doom)
MIP
Marrow/xxx/Tron
Pretty much any team with Magneto, Storm or Tron.
I need some direction for some teams I am building. I’m now getting back into MvC2 since I finally had the time to play it on 360. My goal is to make a couple of “fun but deadly” teams and actually follow the low-tier model.
My first question is should I remove the top 4 from my list, remove the top 8, or go further? The reason I say top 8 is because they can be just as nasty as the top 4 if used right. Should I go that far or is scrapping the top 4 good enough? Basically how low do you go to be a “true” low-tier team?
I just don’t think it’s right slapping 1-2 low-tier characters on your team, use Storm/Sentinel, and still claim to be low-tier. Help with what would make it a “low-tier team” would give me a better starting point. Hopefully I don’t have to stick to the bottom 30 for building my team.
Also, are there any other things people usually make rules for or is it just “low-tier” and “anything goes”? Knowing other modes of play if people created other modes of play as well might be helpful to know too.
Thanks in advance.
“low tier” is really perspective… not saying the named tier’s don’t matter… just that how they apply isn’t always the same.
VegetaX for instance uses storm on his team… but you’d still consider his squad low tier. I think it’s more about how you play rather than who you play.
If you want it to be like low tier tournament legal… then you just avoid the top 4 (and maybe IM) I think. Obviously still leaves a lot of anak, spiral, doom type shit that can be near broken in the list. If your concept of low tier is even teams w/fair play and fun factor… yada… being the goal. Maybe avoid anyone whose tacs are mostly cheapish stuff…
So it’s how you look at it I guess.
Thanks for the info so far.
Why IM with the top 4? Is there anywhere to look at universally used rules like this?
I’m guessing “fun tier” would be 4th tier and below? Since Blackheart, Cap Com, and Anakaris are still highly competitive characters.
@IamZombie
Yeah, a true lowtier squad removes the top 8 out of the picture. They also remove WM, BH, and Doom (which can make a decent team together). In some cases, Tron’s gamma assist because it is that good. It is good with everybody.
A fun but deadly team? My low tier team is built around a gimmick. IMO fun low tier teams are built around a gimmick. Also you can be good with all three characters (like my old team of Jin a/Ryu a/Psylocke) and that can be really fun because of the skill level of all of your characters.
You can use the format for the low tier tourney for xbox live. That is a good format for you low tier teams.
Really low tier squads revolve around 2 different methods…
1.) the gimmick teams… as mentioned. where a combination of your characters does one thing really well… safely… effectively… and you stick to that… and things that set that up and/or work well with it. This is a LOT of low tier teams.
2.) the outplay you teams… like if you played team shoto… it doesn’t really have a simple gimmick that it can exploit over the whole match to beat you. Has to outfight you… mix you up… ect… to win. MANY teams could fit in this bill… and its not to say that they’d work poorly as a team. They can support each other well/fill gaps in each others game w/out just working toward one gimmick or technique. These are my favorite teams…
The best low tier squads are those that have BOTH. They should be able to aid each other in a “fight it out” type of scenario… but also have tactics you can fall back on/exploit/shenanigan/gimmick when you need to… team VDO fits this bill very well. It’s best when your built to “fight it out” but then have gimmicks to aid you against the likes of sent/cable/bh/spiral… (I leave magz, storm, and IM out b/c as good as they are… you can fight it out w/em.) This way you counter gimmicks with gimmicks but are prepared to dig in when things get up close and personal.
@ Cee Dizzy
Thought Doom and WM in the top 8. Why only Blackheart out of the picture? Sounds funny…
I always hear about this format for low tier xbox tourneys but I can never find a concrete “official” link to the rules. I always see these forums with people making their own rules as they go like taking out everyone from tier 3 except Cap Com cause they might wanna use him and have him be op I suppose. Or somehow put Mega Man in tier 3 when he’s clearly low-tier and you gotta know how to use him. Bottom line is if you aren’t careful you’ll get someone’s lame version of the rules they chose.
Where can I find up to date like 2009+ but hopefully 2010 rules if available for low-tier tournament rules?
Thanks.
@ MadTitan
That is good to know. I’ll have to ask more about that when I’m asking for tips about team building.
@ Everyone
I think I found a recent link of the rules below. Can some ranking member confirm this is a “official rules” for xbox/real tournament?
http://www.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=205593
I understand why Tron was banned but why Mega Man?
Why is Anakaris not in Ratio 2 or banned?
Why did Psylocke, Captain Commando, and Dhalsim not get banned?
Also, why are Silver Samurai and Jill “Ratio 2”? I don’t get that either.
I think with answers to those I’m ready to start building my low-tier teams.
Mega Man is a beast and he can own much of the cast for free especially the lower tiers. While Commando and Psy are great assists they are ok characters.
I must have never been able to get that skilled with MM. Why Jill and SS 2 pts though?
Dunno what that means with SS and Jill lol. I would not stress the tiers really play who you like to play its a game have fun with it man
Silver Samurai and Jill are worth 2 of 4 points in tournament rules so wondering why those two if they are really low on the food chain. Weird seeing those two worth as much as Psylocke and Captain Commando.
So why those two worth so much?
Jill and SS do have some great gimmicks and especially with Jill you could make the argument she is better than Psy and Commando. I know I have more trouble with her than dealing with Psy and Commando on point but then again everyone has trouble with different characters so its subjective.
Using the low-tier tournament rules I wanna make a low-tier team. I decided against doing a Marvel or Capcom themed team to allow player changing options. I hope people can appreciate my wanting to build a low-tier team and avoid the “top 4”.
I would like to use this in friendly matches and maybe eventually for tournament play on Xbox 360, so I’m wanting to build a team that I can be proud of.
Here is what I want to work with based on past experiences.
Player 1: I’d like to have Psylocke or Jill as one of the players.
Player 2: Captain America or Wolverine as another.
Player 3: ???
What third character would be best for flexibility if I wanted to change up Player 1 and 2? I am trying to get a permanent character for my 3rd, but if that has to be changed based on my team selection then so be it. If you can provide options for a 3rd like a tier for this slot would help meaning Zangief over BB Hood or something.
Is this style of playing worth doing and are those character choices workable for what I’m looking for… meaning this team could be deadly in a pros hands if not mine (cause I’m no pro)? Also what assists and character order would you recommend?
Reasons for your advice would benefit my learning process. Thanks.
My only beef with what you have there is that all of the characters you got there are pixies they have to get in to do any real damage and Psy is the only beastly assist. I could be wrong just do not see the team chemistry. Any one of those 4 would be fine I just would not recommend using 2 of them.
Try this team Jill(dash),Gambit(projectile),Juggernaut(Dash or ground). If you have 3 bars with jill you can trip them pick them off the ground air combo into her fire super, cancel into gambits card super, and then cancel into Juggernauts super which kills most characters outright. It is completely low tier and the only thing it is missing is an anti air and Juggernaut can be swapped for any anti air you just lose that instant kill option that I for one love Plus it is pretty damn fun to play as. Also a big noob killer team is Jugg/MM/Commando. At the start of the match glitch out juggs, tag in MM and hop back and safely spam juggernaut and commando while jumping and shooting buster shots. It is absolutely monstrous damaging and UBER annoying to play against.
See below but Jill(dash),Gambit(projectile),Juggernaut(Dash or ground) would not be allowed.
