How about some help with Captain America(Anti-Air)/Doom(Rock)/XX. Willing to swap out Doom for something else but America stays. My biggest problem vs any team using an America based team is getting in close or catching an overly defensive player.
I guess i’ll throw in that i’m trying to run CapAA/GambitProj/and Jin A or B or Bison?/gambitProj/CapAA.
All 4 characters don’t seem to have too much info on them and i’m going for it simply to see if i can do something that skips the god and high tiers all together.
Oh and as for cap having trouble getting in I’ve at least found it may help to run someone who can counter call and punish their assists. Sure Sent/Command can keep you out but if you keep counter calling commando until he’s almost gone they don’t really have a choice but to confront you.
Any help from people learning Combofiend, Combofiend2, and Sim-IM-Sent? I tried these three in a session tonight and each of them feel beastly for different reasons. Although Sim IM Sent has the hardest execution stuff I’m loving it a great deal, IM’s AA and Yoga strike XX unblockable proton cannon xx HSF are super satisfying when they work, but actually doing big Damage with Sim is hard. Combofiend 2 I’ve had the most success with as, the bastardized version of America’s favorite DHC does ridiculous damage, easier to punish stuff with big damage from Storm than Sim, and over all just easier to do what I want. For Combofiend I enjoy Mag’s solo play significantly more than Storm’s, but like her I can set up big damage way more easily than with Sim, he’s really hard for me to effectively bring in and out though as none of his DHC’s feel as reasonable for bringing in IM. Also, he loves that IM AAA, so satisfying to do 1/4 life before you even start Romming.
So can anybody offer some general help on any of these 3? Also, what’s the best guard break with Sim on point to knock people into IM AA?
I really badly need some help. The whole thread about CapCom helped for a while. . . And then – I started failing. So far, the only characters that I’m fairly decent with are (Cable, Dr. Doom Slightly, and I’m thinking about adding Gambit to that. I’m also really interesting in the teams that are big on comboing. I think they’re called the “rushers” or “beasts”. But, yeah. Like, I fought this one team that had: Stryder, Gambit, and SonSon and I got destroyed. Like, it was pretty bad. I tried using all God-Tier characters like: Storm, Sentinel, and Magneto. And then – I failed. Please, someone help me out with this. Thanks in advance.
First thing is… when getting your arse kicked by someone good… and they using low tier… don’t switch from low tiers to gods unless you know how to use em… just pisses your opp off that you’d make it a contest of cheapness instead of skill… if you can play them… go for it tho…lol
You gotta defend well. This is mahvel… tech out of throws… know when you need to roll… and do so… practice blocking. I’d advise picking teams that like to slow the pace down and making sure you can execute well. Holding up+back (j.block) will keep you safe from 90% of stuff in the game… add a fast anti air assist in… and you can hold out… frustrate your opp into making a mistake that you can punish.
Hint… there are 2 gameplans in marhvel… one is active… the other reactive. If you are playing keep away/zoning… or rushdown… you are active… otherwise… reactive. This means if you aren’t zoning or rushing you shouldn’t be hitting a lot of buttons. You should be defending or moving to a more advantageous position… building meter if you can do so safely… I can’t stress this enough… unless you are playing certain teams… most of the match is reactive… (a.k.a. not hitting buttons and throwing out moves)… really this is why most new players have a hard time. To used to poking, footsies, wake-up moves… ect… mahvel doesn’t really play a lot like that. 9 times out of 10 if you just block, build meter, bait assists, and punish assists… you can be pretty safe and eventually your opp will slip or the chink in his armor will show. Then its back to that execution is all…
True to that! What most new players would benefit from knowing is that every player, no matter how illustrious, has lost plenty of matches to impatience. More often than not it’s about who can spot a mistake and capitalize on it first. The most important thing, and I’m sure I’ve said this before, is that nobody gets better without losing some first, so if you are one of those title-belt rage-quitters who look good on paper you probably don’t know squat. Don’t be afraid to lose. It’s far worse to be repetitive or bored. Keep in mind there’s really nothing at stake here. Yes, insecure players will flame you along the way (whether you win or lose), but once you begin to ‘feel’ the mechanics everything will fall into place and you can have a blast playing whoever you want.
56 characters is a boat load, even if some aren’t as good as others, allowing for unprecedented variety. Yes, there are tried and true teams but there are many more untried and tricky. Your eyes, reactions, and judgements are ultimately more important than priority, move sets, and tier lists.
I pretty much could have said, ‘PRACTICE GOOD,’ but you know by now I’m full of wind.
I picked up this game on XBL last weekend (ST player wanting to get into a bit of Marvel) but the possibilities are just too overwhelming. I don’t want to just pick a random team and press buttons so I need some help.
In most games I pick characters that do dmg from up close, have high dmg potential, have good mixups and I tend to enjoy throwing people around a bit. But I don’t really know to what kind of MVC2 team that translates. Now I could just pick one of the popular teams with the big four and everything but I would rather play something unconventional. I really dug the way Omega Red played from watching Dao’s matches from the JPN vs US casuals at EVO09 and I would like to play a team with him in it. Actually I dug the way his whole team dynamic worked but I don’t want to blatantly copy dude’s team.
Other characters I’ve enjoyed watching are Hulk (double crush setups damn), Spidey (shoultz had a cool youtube vid where he was rushing people down like mad), Juggs (that rushing super, dont know what its called does ridiculous dmg)
Not saying I want a team with stricly these chars though and Im not really opposed to having a top character on the team but would like the team to have some alternative flavor to it
ive been playin MvC2 since DC for fun just recently ive been tryin 2 get in the tourney game i basically run 3 teams SPIRAL-Y/STORM-PROJ/ROGUE-DASH AND THROW and MORRIGAN-ANTIAIR/T.BONNE-GROUND/GULIE ANTI AIR OR PROJ and TEAM DUC im willing 2 learn anybody 2 make me better just want 2 know what can i do to step my game up to the next level and also wanted 2 know who should i run wit if i got Sakura as my point i need a battery cuz i only like her dark form come on i need this bad tryin 2 do final round
@ Fulaani
Its good to here someone appreciating MvC2 for the overall experience. So many noobs want to jump right into the fire and learn the God tiers, when they can barely understand basic aspects of the game you know, like BLOCKING!!! There are many characters that dont get love, but have the potential to be comp for the higher tiers. Thanos, Sabretooth, RubyH, SilverSamurai, Dhalsim, M.Bison, Charlie, Guile, Jill, Omega Red, Gambit. These are characters that are not focused on, but have decent skill to compete and even win against higher tiers. As always, practice and a dedication to perfection is required of course. And with enough practice and expy against higher tiers, you’ll be a tough opponent against high tiers. You mentioned Omega Red, and yeah Omega can mixup pretty well. Combos arent as effective and glamorous as others, but his ability to manuever on screen really frustrates opponents. Omega strike combined with the right assist usually keeps opponents at bay, and agitated in coming foward. Like Doom or Sentinel, you can lockdown to put pressure on your opponent. I have a couple of teams with Omega, but honestly Im not in the mood to list everything. You can use IM repulsor with ground Omega Strike, to cross-up and lockdown the opponent. Omega can work well with a lot of characters, its about finding the perfect fit for him in a team. Since he has a lot of range, you can use assist that also cover a lot of range. Cyclops anti-air is a good assist, with cross-up potential. Believe it or not, MegaMan assists are pretty good, BBHood proj. assist is good, and you can connect his aerial super. Simply put, most characters can work well with one another. Its about practicing and exploring different combinations. Go to training mode, and let all hell break loose…

Blackheart and tron
Hey fulaani holla at me when your playing man didnt even know you jumped on the marvel bandwagon lol
Anyways Im interested if Blackheart my main can be played with Tron as I play as team z sometimes and like tron best out of them and wanna incorperate her abilities into my blackheart play… any help would be most appreciated thanks I was also thinking to add Ironman to this team on anti air idk lol
rah, smexy you play marvel too? yea I jumped on, I felt like pressing a lot of buttons in quick succesion.
Still haven’t decided on a team.
For Blackheart/Tron footage, your best bet is to watch matches by a player that calls his self Jaminis.
I use the assist every once in a blue moon, but I doubt any of those matches have been recorded. Just watch the Jaminis vids and I’ll explain any concepts that you can’t grasp.
Oh and I play BH with Ironman. You MIGHT find a vid or two of it if you look up blackheartking or demon overdose on youtube.
One easy thing you can do with that is a guard break in the corner. Just normal jump up, and jp+ironman’s anti air assist, when you reach the pic of your jump as they’re coming in. They’ll block the jp but get hit by the ironman assist. Then, as soon as you land from your normal jump, immediately do the armmageddon super.
It’s actually “Dau” afaik, but close enough ;]]]
Guess you just “Daun’t” know. WAFFLECOPTER>
What I mean to say, is that it’s great that XBL/PSN Marvel has been able to draw in so much new blood. I’m always up to spar with new players (probably bc I was one not all that long ago): I’m on the 'Bawks: TonyP0318
yea here’s hoping mahvel at evo is plenty hype this year and even more new faces start popping up… seeing a whole new wave of faces right now on psn…
Titan you are so right. As a new face myself my own little marvel community is multiplaying rapidly. I convinced one of my friends to buy it and he loved it so much it spread to other new guys etc… Point is people who don’t really even know fighting games are picking the game up and some of them will stay to learn the game and see its awesomeness. I have been training one of my friends and I kicked the noob out of him to the point where he is starting to do well in ranked matches even with a low tier. But either way Marvel is reaching new people which is quite exciting. We were already talking about organizing mini-tournaments between the people in my friends list as long as I can’t use my Hulk they said lol.
I am so glad this came back on LIVE I just hope the resurgence can pave the way to a next gen marvel title.
On psn I can get matches of marvel at any time… 24 hours a day, 7 days a week… and psn isn’t as populated as LIVE… i think its pretty fucking awesome. Thousands of people constantly playing…lol Maybe more now than actually did back when it first launched in the states…
and somehow they thought about not having it at evo this year? still confused on that one.
Hey guys, try not to laugh if this is a stupid idea (very inexperienced in Marvel) but would an Omega Red/Hulk/Doom team work? Dooms AA assist seems to setup both Omegas en Hulks stuff pretty well but am not sure about the rest of the team chemistry.
I really want to play something kind of alternative but still somewhat viable (no tourney scene here though).
edit per the OPs rules, I don’t want to remove Omega Red, will take suggestions on the other chars though.
So after noticing the low tier online tournaments I decided to try and pick a team. So I want to go with anakaris and thanos mainly, mostly thanks to beatsofdevil’s work with thanos, never thought I would see a good thanos. So my only restrictions are it has to follow the low tier rules for psn and xbox live and I don’t want to play sonson.
What assists are you running Omega and Hulk as? What are you using to safely take Omega red out and DHC into Hulk? What is the primary goal of each character’s assist, and what they’re trying to do on point?
to be completely honest I’m not sure. I have never played marvel in my life and just picked it up on XBL 2 weeks ago but havent been able to play much yet cause of school and preparation for an ST tourney(I normally hate asking questions instead of figuring stuff out for myself or just mining through forums but there is too much to think about in marvel).
I thought Doom rocks helped Omega by keeping the opp in blockstun so you can do all kinds of funky crossups with his diagional omega strikes and whatever. And into combo’s if they hit. I found a relatively simple combo with doom into his air super (launch+doom, sj.lp xx coil, throw down into rocks, air super). Omega on point seems like a good (good for mid tier) aggresive character with trickyness. And he builds meter.
For Hulk (on dash?)/Doom is something I saw people talking about in the Hulk forums talking about easy double crush setups. And I just like Hulk. I haven’t seen much Hulk on point but I figure he wants to land double crushes and needs a good assist for that.
But like I said I’m not experienced and don’t understand team chemistry that well yet. I don’t know about safe DHCs to Hulk but when I saw Dao play with Omega I saw him use a lot of counters to swap people in. I reckon that was because Omegas ground super isn’t that great.
I’m not at all set on these characters though expect for Omega Red. Shoultzula writes some good stuff for O.Red/Tron on page two but I don’t like storm, sent or morrigan as middle characters.
