The Odinson Shall Triumph: Thor Reset/Combo thread

If you hit with the full charge from an air combo and relaunch the follow up combo is really small and isn’t that great. Better to do aircombo to full charge smash, to medium smash to hard smash. Unless your midscreen then just do full charge smash to super or if you really need some damage you can go for relaunch jump m, s since after a full air series that is all that will connect consistently.

cr.l, cr.m, s, j.m, j.m, j.h, j.s, hard mighty strike, uf, a.mighty hurricane

Yeah, but we need better midscreen resets. Thor puts you in a corner though, start crying for your mommy.

Messed around a bit with relaunch followup. You can relaunch after the M Mighty Smash to a.M x L Mighty Spark for another air dash reset. Cant have too many resets.

I misread the OP in that I thought you were talking about hitting the 2nd part of full charge H Might Smash in the corner raw. Which I still think mini-air series to launch is best as you can get a full air series into full charge H Mighty Smash reset.

You can hit H Mighty Smash mid screen then follow up with a quick tri-jump to Mighty Hurricane before you land. Thats the best I can figure out atm mid screen without a L spark in an air combo. Best to use H Hurricane as if you miss you get an Air Throw. Only catches a neutral or down recovery, which is unlikely. An air-dash forward from a normal jump will catch up or forward recoveries.

Easy midscreen reset is launch them > M,M,H,L Mighty strike… wait for a split second, air dash forward and L Mighty Hurricane. This works sometimes too if they mash because they will likely be mashing right away and depending on what move they mash out you can get them in their recovery frames. Where as if you air dash up towards them and they mash most likely you will get hit.

Ok I am sadly light years behind you guys when it comes to resets. I had all these theories and shit to test, but much of my time has been spent simply trying to not let Thor get bodied. I been doing better with him recently, but I do have one question: what are you guys using for your corner resets? I tend to use H Mighty Smash OTG, and I can reset fine if the opponent techs backwards or neutral techs. However, I can’t seem to find any good solution for people who forward tech. Is it just me, or is it impossible to command grab them if they forward tech? What do you guys do to discourage this? Or do you use another reset entirely?

I honestly haven’t been using many resets with him thus far, and I’ve instead gone for guaranteed damage. His combos do so much retard damage anyways that I’m like wtf should I reset for when I can just kill them.

I doubt light years of a difference. I simply am trying to use him as a battery.
I have tried to use some of his frame data from the guide also, and it does indeed seem his air mighty strike it + on block. Somewhere around +5-6. I am planning on incorporating this into my offense. It seems like L Mighty Smash is around the same. I know any Mighty spark is +, but most people will duck it.

As for corner resets, its really all about H Mighty Smash for close to the ground resets, and for me, L Mighty Spark for Air combo resets. I really haven’t found any other resets outside of those 2 moves. I haven’t really played around with that many assists that cause recovery. Sounds like I have some work to do in the lab.

So let’s say you land a Hurricane in the corner, and then do whatever into a Heavy Smash. They are about to air reset:

Jump up-back and activate fly.

If they tech towards you, air dash in that direction and do a j.normal(MxxMxxHxxStrikexxTornado) or Hurricane again.

If they tech back towards the corner, air dash towards them and do either option.

I go for resets on characters with full health or close to full. I don’t know the exact numbers but for my midscreen reset if I grab them it totals to about 900,000-1,000,000 damage from the previous combo… which kills some characters with 100% health (the weaker ones).

You just have to mix it up. If you keep going for the same reset then people will catch on obviously.

It never misses but it’s actually character specific. Doesn’t work on characters with odd hitboxes like tron or modok.

I wouldn’t be in a hurry to drop it because it pushes your opponent towards the corner quite a bit extra.

Wow. That was awesome.

Thor is a tank, my only gripe is he’s pretty slow. I have to decide between zero and thor for my 3rd depending on the other players team.

Simple and extremely damaging BnB combos for Thor:

- Damage: 894,100
- Damage: 1,020,000

^amazing combos both of you guys

i sorta changed around your combo gief and got between 767-500 to 769,600. if you add nj.s at the beginning you can get 806,000 (got this down only once)

cr.l, cr.h, m.mighty smash, s, mmhs, call in super skrull, h.mighty smash, nj.high mighty smash, mighty torando

Cornered Sentinel Tactic

Hey I was messing around with Thor in training mode against Sentinel, since he’s so popular, that I decided to work on things that can hurt him when he’s cornered.

So Thor’s j.L is an instant OH. Though you can’t get jack off of this in terms of combos, you can cancel to j.H which keeps sentinel in block stun. From that, cancel to L Strike (horizontal), and if he blocked j.H and L strike, you can get out 2 j.L’s after the strike, and follow it up with a ground combo starting with s.L.

If he got hit by L Strike, I believe that juggles him in the air, and I’ve been able to hit j.L right after, but don’t think you can combo into anything else afterward, so it’d be more of a reset.

Also I didn’t test any anti-Sent tactics in X Factor. It probably gets better.

Also general strategy against Sentinel (anywhere) bait him to throw a cr. M and DON’T PUSH BLOCK because you can punish that with a raw launcher into a free combo follow up with a reset or mix up of your choice.

What I will always do is triangle dash right at Sent’s feet while holding down back really trying to get the opponent to press that button. If they follow up with launcher you can land your launcher right after you see the foot go up. Usually GOOD Sentinel players will hit confirm the Cr. M and not follow up with the launcher and idiot ones just like to press as many buttons as possible to thats when you wait for the launcher to clear.

They can delay the launcher though after the cr. M and hit you but I have rarely had this happen to me (happened once or twice last night during tourny casuals… shout outs to gimpyfish).

But yea try to bait those robo-legs out!

What’s Thor’s best combo WITHOUT assists? I’m running Taskmaster/Thor/Doom right now, so I don’t think OTG assists are an option for me.

yea. i think i meant to say was mighty spark my mistake.

I think Thor can H Smash OTG than maybe that could combo into an assist, which could provide enough hits to extend a combo/relaunch.

I think his best solo combo is j.H, M Strike, c.H, S, j.M, j.M, j.H, [a.M Strike, Hurricane]. What’s harder, but probably better is to replace the bracketed section with j.S, full charged H Smash, then Hurricane.

I keep doing this combo, but I continually get different results as to how much damage it’s doing…

cr. L, cr. M xx Mighty Smash (M), S, air M, air M, air H xx air Mighty Strike (M) xx air Mighty Tornado

Anyone know what the deal is?

cr.M is multiple hits, thus changing the scaling of subsequent hits, causing a difference in damage.
Same goes for the air Mighty Strike M.
