The nth Chicago thread: We Know Drama

Hey guys, I am the person running the tournaments at Screenz. I have read the last few several pages and I really do not want to cause any beef or arguing with my tournaments and its participants.

I am going to apologize on behalf of Vayseth and Devildigimon. They run tournaments at my events and this really is a not a way a Tournament Runner should be talking/typing online especially if they want to attract new players to the tournaments.

I started doing tournaments in Chicago in a way to increase the competitive scene and attract new players and built a bigger scene for the Chicago Gaming Community. I had an End of Summer tournament at my house on August 1st and it was basically Brawl and Soul Calibur 4. It had 24 people fro Brawl and 32 for Soul Calibur 4 and it had a lot of high caliber players from all over the Midwest show up for that event.

Since that tournament I got feed back to run more tournaments, I did not want to run them at my place cause there was no way my house could hold that many players in the first place. So I went out to look for a venue that was willing to help.

I got no help from venues and most of the ones I got canceled on me for the November 1st Tournament I was planning. Then Screenz, came out and told me they were willing to house that tournament to see how the scene was. It was my first tournament there and it got a lot of support and many players showed up from different parts of the Midwest.

I did wanted to plan a 2D Tournament, but it just happened to be on the same day as NEC, even though I was told that many of the Chicago players were not showing up to NEC, I ran the tournament to give them a shot at playing games on weekend that they weren’t going to be in NEC for. It got a a pretty big turn out of about 30 players, but the problem was that everyone played different games, so the biggest tournament was CvS 2 with an attendance of 8 players.

After that event I decided for the new year I will run monthly tournaments. And to help built on my original concept of having new players get into the games I decided to run multi tournament games. So I had Brawl, which is a huge draw and was hoping by having Brawl and running the 2D games, I would attract Brawl players to participate and start playing 2D games. The first tournament did that. Many of the participants for the 2D games, Tatsunoko vs Capcom and HD Remix were players that showed up for Brawl and Naruto.

Now many of those players are wanting to play those games and have started and are once again signing up for the February event and not only signing up for Brawl and Naruto, but also entering HD Remix, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, and of course Street Fighter 4.

The whole reason and purpose for my tournaments was to help develop the fighting game scene in Chicago by introducing new players to the other fighting games and helping them develop their skills for big events like MWC and EVO and other big events that will be going on later in the year. And helping Chicago have more of a representation at these events than just the usual people. This way also it will help in making bigger turn outs of those events.

I also knew Chicago was a hard place to find gaming locations for groups, since Arcades had virtually died in the City and Nickel City was the place to play if you can get to it. I started to talk to the venue about this and was trying to have weekly gaming sessions and monthly tournament so people in the City can have something to look forward to every month if their only means of transportation was Bus or Train and could not make it to Nickel City to play games.

I have been trying to get more different games in my tournaments and this was a reason why I decided to add a different game every month to see how many will show up for those tournaments.

February I am adding Soul Calibur 4 to the line up, in March I am adding Guilty Gear XX Accent Core, and in April I was adding Sugoi! Arcana Heart 2. May is till open for suggestions, since I don’t have a game to add at this moment for that month.

You guys now know what are my intentions for my tournaments and my series of events I have been doing, because of this the venue started to remodel the location to help cater to the players there and make it more inviting than the original lay out of it.

Once again, I am sorry and apologize if my Tournament Runners that came in here and insulted anyone. I did not want to my tournaments to cause any arguments or any problems amongst the competitive players, I was just trying to find a place where Chicago players can play together once a month and have out of state players show up and give the Chicago players some competition in games and they would normally wouldn’t get or get a chance of getting.

I hope this does not make anyone, unwilling want to participate in these tournaments, and hopefully they will want to show up. Even if it is for casuals if they don’t want to stay for the tournaments. I just want everyone that shows up to these events to have a fun time and just have fun playing a lot of different player that they will normally wouldn’t play.

I hope you guys understand what I was trying to say and if I offended anyone I am sorry. If anyone had a bad time at the venue, I have no problems listening to complains and getting them fixed for the next time. If I have to do 2 day events I might end up doing that if it will cause most of the arguing to stop. I really don’t want my tournaments to be the cause of any bad blood or arguing people might be having.

For people not wanting to read my long post:

tl;dr: I will talk to Vayseth and Devildigimon and tell them to cut their arguing, cause I don’t want to have any problems with players not wanting to show up cause of the people running the tournaments. And I apologize if anyone got offended by their posts.

Stop da fighting. Fight in games, not internet.

Also… I’m done playing AH1 in tourneys, but if anybody wants to learn Maori’s Iron Man combos, I’m game. I play almost every Arcana with her too.

Can show basics with half the cast as well.

Haha nice post. But seriously you’ll understand after the indianapolis tournament what I’m talking about. Or won’t that one count either lol? It’s already been established that casuals don’t. Which ones do count? When a certain 2 or 3 people decide to get out from in front of their computer, because they’re busying monitoring SRK for whenever someone posts that they won a tournament that they didn’t bother going to… because they had to drive or walk a little bit?

If I’m such garbage, what does that make everyone who I beat so far? Sub garbage?

Anyway, until then

<— 70% champ :wgrin:

guys ignore my last post on how to become better it was all hootinany and full of non pink bunny-ness…the true way to get better at sf is to watch this -

its youtube so im sure frankie will be familiar with it since it probably taught him his basics

serious legs tier is too good =(

not to be a dick but…yeah kinda…the only quality player youve beaten in hdr is antonio and 1.he had never played the game before and had no idea wtf happened to cammy 2. he doesnt even really play sf at all anymore and 3. if i understand correctly you still lost a ft10 with him afterwards soooo yeah you lost to someone who had played the game what? less then 20 total matches?

inflated,undeserved,egooooooooooooooos

oh capps is andy? didn’t know that. Whadup andy. Iv’e been to your place a couple of times for casual

indianapolis tournament is pretty irrelevant to the argument. you could win a King of Street Fighter Universe tournament, where Ryu will actually pop out of the game and shake your hand when you win, and that still doesnt change what was said about the screenz tournaments.

tournaments that are respectable are the ones that have been established and/or where reputable players attend. do you know HOW these people get a reputation? they don’t go around posting “2x Chicago Champ” or anything like that in their signature. I don’t see Elvenshadow signature have “Evo 2008 Champion” or “FF GG Champion”, meta’s signature does not say “FF Arcana Champion”, Webster’s signature does not say “Anger Champion”, and floe’s signature does not say “FF STHDR Champion”.

how do these people get these reputations that people are like “oh hey, that guy is pretty damn good.” it might be because they are good enough that people know who they are. that is from participating and winning. Dark Kakashi even said that these tournaments are new, new meaning not quite established yet. When you get enough hype around a tournament that attracts people who have a history of playing well, people might start thinking “hey this guy is pretty darn good.”

i never heard of reputation from being self-proclaimed.

Dubba-Ya Bush proclaimed the US won against Iraq. HE EVEN HAD THE BANNER UP (i.e. he wrote it in his forum signature). though somehow, i dont think that worked out too well for him.

ari that video is the best trolling ive ever seen…everyone needs to go watch it NOW. The best part about it is all the comments of people taking the guy seriously.

LOL syxx, I like Ukyo over you anyday. Ill put some money on that shit!

also, we should play again on PSN. add me to your friends list  My scrubby bozac blanka is hungry to bite some face!

Soon as I saw “Navgtr” i closed it, that guy is the biggest idiot ever.

sorry that’s not correct.

After playing in that particular tournament, him and his buddy practiced all week. The following weekend we had a round robin in which he placed THIRD. We had a first to 10 in which we were neck and neck the entire time and he pulled ahead at the end to beat me 10-8. So don’t talk like I cheesed him out and then he destroyed me the next time we played. As for him not playing st anymore, sorry, while he obviously didn’t play as much at that time he was always talking about playing the game with a few other players up here. So I’m not buying the “less then 20 matches” thing. I talk to him almost every day so I know how much he plays. And he hasn’t changed his opinion on my ability the game.

Also, you really have absolutely no clue who I’ve played yet.

Nives, I already stated why I changed my sig. To get people to come out and try to beat me. But you are just getting rediculous. Enough is enough already, it’s funny that you can type out these multi paragraph posts dedicated to me but seriously… how long are you going to drag this shit out? I don’t need some kid explaining anything to me. You’re claiming like I’m going around stating that I’m the best, when all I’m saying is that I won 2 tournaments so far, and I really didn’t have too much more to say in my sig before then. I think it said “white people” or something for like 3 years. So, really. Get a life, and just drop it already. Because you don’t have anything to prove to me and vice versa.

Elven Shadow: you’re on

Sounds like street fighter 2 hyper fighting on SNES… lol

i would like to meet this guy. his name is dangerously close to mine…

also: any idea when retail stores get their TE sticks for any system?

Then this means that in Jims mind, everyone that sat at Table Infinite (Table 8) at his wedding are apparently “worth a damn”…which somehow means I’M worth a damn! Woo-hoo…or something…

lol of course i remember, now that you bring him up! damn that was so long ago, what happened to that guy?!>!>!

I used to think he was so goood, then he one day he was all scared of me and i was owning him off of pure fear lolz. Same thing happened with rashad.

dan=top tier serious legs
oh man that was awful.

Dark Kakashi: I don’t think anyone that was discussing stuff ever had a problem with screenz itself, or you. Said many times before, it’s great you offer an alternative to people within that location, and I hope your turnouts continue to grow. This has nothing to do with screenz, and I wish you both the best luck with your business and turnouts.

That being said, Andy already took care of what I was going to post to digimon, so we’ll just leave it at that.

all i did was have a little discussion on the situation, this does happen to be a discussion board. i never resorted to name calling.

kid? i didnt even realize you were 28 until i saw your profile, i honestly thought you were frankie’s age by the way you fail at bringing up any solid argument.

all you really have to say is “okay i see your point. lets move on.” instead you try to retort everything. boy you really showed me how much better you are by telling me to “get a life”, and by trying to hang onto the really minute accomplishments you have.

I already said this 2 pages back, if you have an issue to pm me. But you are so focused on conjuring up these rediculous posts. I’m not here to argue with anyone. So I don’t understand why you keep dragging this out, like you have nothing better to do with your time, putting words in my mouth. So let this be the end if it. I don’t have serious issues with any of you guys here. Yes, it is funny to talk trash from time to time, but there isn’t any reason to make it personal so I agree with you on that. But if you don’t understand at this point then we’ll see what happens from here on out. I’m glad you helped get people’s attention. So let’s fuckin do this.

you want to perpetuate this? and you are still trying to put me down? apparently you have nothing to do with your time instead of respond to them.

swallow your ego, because nobody really respects it any how. otherwise we wouldnt have gotten started on this.

I am never going to argue with Jerry. hehe

Ill be at the next screens tourny playing SF4 and Remix.

Also we should get 3s going as well.

RIVALRIES!!! WOOT WOOT!

Street Fighter POWAH!

keg at my place? play some HDR? if you dont drink, how bout some pizza and coke? love to brew competition buy spewing hate… why not do that by winning in the games you play? I can go on… but overall message… I am all about having games and no personal hate. if your gonna hate something; hate the way I play… don’t hate me cus you hate the way I play. that made no sense, but I’m always down for having games at my place, or games at other people’s houses.

on that note: frankie, lemme get that address so I could get some games in if your not busy. I’ve already been to DK’s and J-money’s neighborhood so I guess I can drive the distance without getting lost.

so because your middle eastern, you might be mistaken as me? lol. well salam man. may I ask where exactly in the middle east are you from?
