Hey guys, I am the person running the tournaments at Screenz. I have read the last few several pages and I really do not want to cause any beef or arguing with my tournaments and its participants.
I am going to apologize on behalf of Vayseth and Devildigimon. They run tournaments at my events and this really is a not a way a Tournament Runner should be talking/typing online especially if they want to attract new players to the tournaments.
I started doing tournaments in Chicago in a way to increase the competitive scene and attract new players and built a bigger scene for the Chicago Gaming Community. I had an End of Summer tournament at my house on August 1st and it was basically Brawl and Soul Calibur 4. It had 24 people fro Brawl and 32 for Soul Calibur 4 and it had a lot of high caliber players from all over the Midwest show up for that event.
Since that tournament I got feed back to run more tournaments, I did not want to run them at my place cause there was no way my house could hold that many players in the first place. So I went out to look for a venue that was willing to help.
I got no help from venues and most of the ones I got canceled on me for the November 1st Tournament I was planning. Then Screenz, came out and told me they were willing to house that tournament to see how the scene was. It was my first tournament there and it got a lot of support and many players showed up from different parts of the Midwest.
I did wanted to plan a 2D Tournament, but it just happened to be on the same day as NEC, even though I was told that many of the Chicago players were not showing up to NEC, I ran the tournament to give them a shot at playing games on weekend that they weren’t going to be in NEC for. It got a a pretty big turn out of about 30 players, but the problem was that everyone played different games, so the biggest tournament was CvS 2 with an attendance of 8 players.
After that event I decided for the new year I will run monthly tournaments. And to help built on my original concept of having new players get into the games I decided to run multi tournament games. So I had Brawl, which is a huge draw and was hoping by having Brawl and running the 2D games, I would attract Brawl players to participate and start playing 2D games. The first tournament did that. Many of the participants for the 2D games, Tatsunoko vs Capcom and HD Remix were players that showed up for Brawl and Naruto.
Now many of those players are wanting to play those games and have started and are once again signing up for the February event and not only signing up for Brawl and Naruto, but also entering HD Remix, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, and of course Street Fighter 4.
The whole reason and purpose for my tournaments was to help develop the fighting game scene in Chicago by introducing new players to the other fighting games and helping them develop their skills for big events like MWC and EVO and other big events that will be going on later in the year. And helping Chicago have more of a representation at these events than just the usual people. This way also it will help in making bigger turn outs of those events.
I also knew Chicago was a hard place to find gaming locations for groups, since Arcades had virtually died in the City and Nickel City was the place to play if you can get to it. I started to talk to the venue about this and was trying to have weekly gaming sessions and monthly tournament so people in the City can have something to look forward to every month if their only means of transportation was Bus or Train and could not make it to Nickel City to play games.
I have been trying to get more different games in my tournaments and this was a reason why I decided to add a different game every month to see how many will show up for those tournaments.
February I am adding Soul Calibur 4 to the line up, in March I am adding Guilty Gear XX Accent Core, and in April I was adding Sugoi! Arcana Heart 2. May is till open for suggestions, since I don’t have a game to add at this moment for that month.
You guys now know what are my intentions for my tournaments and my series of events I have been doing, because of this the venue started to remodel the location to help cater to the players there and make it more inviting than the original lay out of it.
Once again, I am sorry and apologize if my Tournament Runners that came in here and insulted anyone. I did not want to my tournaments to cause any arguments or any problems amongst the competitive players, I was just trying to find a place where Chicago players can play together once a month and have out of state players show up and give the Chicago players some competition in games and they would normally wouldn’t get or get a chance of getting.
I hope this does not make anyone, unwilling want to participate in these tournaments, and hopefully they will want to show up. Even if it is for casuals if they don’t want to stay for the tournaments. I just want everyone that shows up to these events to have a fun time and just have fun playing a lot of different player that they will normally wouldn’t play.
I hope you guys understand what I was trying to say and if I offended anyone I am sorry. If anyone had a bad time at the venue, I have no problems listening to complains and getting them fixed for the next time. If I have to do 2 day events I might end up doing that if it will cause most of the arguing to stop. I really don’t want my tournaments to be the cause of any bad blood or arguing people might be having.
For people not wanting to read my long post:
tl;dr: I will talk to Vayseth and Devildigimon and tell them to cut their arguing, cause I don’t want to have any problems with players not wanting to show up cause of the people running the tournaments. And I apologize if anyone got offended by their posts.
