I’d say overall I like HDR – and to top it off, I find myself playing more and more a character that was strictly nerfed (Chun Li).
I completely agree about Akuma. He’s totally stupid and unfun to play against. Makes me want to not play.
But I find now with the patch fixed, that the ranking system does a good job of matching me up against strong opponents (not always but it happens enough). I felt the sense of “oh shit this guy is good” a couple of times which was always fun.
For me maybe what makes it fun is that I felt in classic ST that I had no answer to O Sagat or a good Dhalsim. I just didn’t feel there was any character I played that could deal with those characters.
Now if anything, it’s a good ryu that I don’t know how to deal with (damn he can be scary to play against). I think Chun just plain loses to a good Ryu. Maybe boxer has a chance? I don’t know, I haven’t been playing him very much. Dictator I think still gets raped.
But what makes the game fun is that I don’t feel there are any stupid characters anymore and there are fewer stupid matchups. Yes Honda is retarded but it’s less bad than O Sagat was.
To people saying Honda is cheap or cheaper than ST (he lost his throw trap): I say learn to play against Honda.
Every day I play against Feis, Zangiefs, Dictators that are ranked near me or higher on XBL and I lose or barely win. Pretty much every character is very hard, but Cammy will never win. I thought Fei was worse, but I finally fought a really good Fei. Cammy can be hard, but I never lose to won.
Ryu and Guile make me just want to let them win, but I can beat them sometimes. Sucks that the most common characters played are all bad matchups for Honda. (Ryu, Ken, Honda, Deejay, Chun)
Jab headbutt doesn’t make me win against GOOD fireball character users.
Exactly what is there to learn against Honda? Comments like that aren’t going to work in here, it is widely agreed that a lot of his changes added more bullshit into the mix. Had he his throw loop blood would flow through the streets of the 206. He is not unbeatable, but he still has many tools at his disposal.

I personally don’t think any of the characters are cheap. I think its weird that people on the SRK forum complain about that as much as they do. (besides akuma since he has bugs that weren’t intended by backbone)
No one is calling Honda “cheap”. Honda in Remix is dumb because they did nothing to balance him vs non-fireball characters, but did everything to make him way better against fireballs.
Honda was a dumb character in ST, and he’s even dumber in Remix.

The reason Honda is stupider in Remix than SFIV is because in SFIV there are much more options to deal with turtle honda than there are in SFIV. Also in SFIV his Oicho has 5 frames of startup compared to the one or zero it had in HDR.
Also throw loop was good but it was not perfect even in regular ST, simple shit like jump lk tick>Command throw is still ungodly good and pretty dumb. Also the handslap is MUCH better in HDR than ST, and I believe it has hits that have to be blocked low unlike Vanilla, but I could be wrong (don’t have a way to easily test this right now).
But the reason Honda is so dumb in HDR is because Jab headbutt is even better brainless anti-everything than it ALREADY was in regular ST, and because he punishes you while sitting on his ass being fat and not doing anything, especially if you don’t have a good fireball, it’s beyond retarded and requires no thinking on Honda’s part.
He’s got a shitload more to offer in HDR than SFIV.
Wow, this game rules online. My ‘better ranked’ opponents I’ve been playing are 90% Honda, and the other 10% turn on a porn download while they’re playing so that you can’t do anything. Grr-r-r-r-eat!

sf4 honda is much more fun to play, he doesn’t feel weaker to me anymore and he’s definitely 100% better vs fireball users
