post match impressions:
now people see your win/loss record and will quit before round starts. Fucking stupid
they should have made rankings per character and player. My cammy sucks. Why is it mixed in with my good characters rankings?
the matchmaking system works well, I was matched up with strong opponents within my first 7 games. It’s good competition and fun again.
Wait, where did you see this crap? I played a little bit and saw nothing visually different or anything… Where does it show the win/loss record and all that?
Sir Bizzles should hold sessions again. I need to get the patch, red cyclone forever.
WOW, this game has become LAGTASTIC with this new patch, pretty much to the point of this being unplayable, CONSTENT ROLLBACKS. False alarm everyone, SF4 is still a better game!
I kind of stopped hosting sessions because people weren’t showing up – but if ppl want to do a session I’m down.
Right before your fight in the lobby – you’ll see win loss record for that session. It used to always say 0 wins 0 losses, now it shows the record.
Nobody stopped taking this game seriously, sfiv is just what most ppl are on right now…you guys should stop griping though…at least you get player lobbies
Oh player matches. I never play player matches.
I find it interesting that they didn’t run HDR at Final Round at all but instead, had a regular ST tourney. Maybe more areas should do this =].
wink wink
Why do some people dislike HDR over ST? Besides Akuma, and a few things like TAP glitch, T-Hawks throw wiffs and jab headbutt, its not much grosser than ST.
Not judging, I just enjoy it and can’t tell the difference, so I am curious.
How much time ya got?
ALL DAY.
Actually, I am interested on reading your thoughts. I think a few are already on SUPRO-TAEBO.NET for those not in the know.
Maybe you should just write down some notes, and we can record this and podcast it. :wgrin: Don’t let all the rage out too soon. We could do a video and splice in some STHD footage to illustrate your points.
Honda.
he hit the nail on the head with that one.
Hm, alright, I suppose I’ll post about what it is that I don’t like about Remix. Beware, this post could end up pretty long but I’ll keep it as short as possible…
-I love regular ST. I don’t feel that it needed remixing since it’s been played for so long. Sure it’s not perfect, but I felt it was great as is. I mean nearly everyone already knows how I felt about that. I would’ve been happy with just hd graphics.
-I feel that a lot of the changes made, remove problematic situations altogether and I think that that neuters the mental side of the game. In some cases this is good like with Vega’s wall dive stuff, in others I think it waters the game down. I’ll use everyone’s favorite example in Honda. A good Honda in ST had to be resourceful to get past projectiles. Now it’s as easy as a jab headbutt. Yes I know you can bait and punish it, but this is merely an example.
-For me anyway, since the changes didn’t make me wanna use any other characters I’m stuck with the same characters I used in regular ST (Chun/Sagat) which makes me wish peeps played regular ST instead hahah.
-Akuma is about the most unfun character to play against in any game in a very longtime in my opinion.
-Hate the music but it’s a moot point as I play with classic music on hahah.
-Yknow, something to me about the game is just off. I really cannot put my finger on it. I honestly can’t describe it.
-I actually think a lot about whether or not I’m gonna try to get on the NW team for the 5v5 and just about everytime, I come to the conclusion that I’m not gonna try.
-The glitches (now a moot point I’m guessing) and the lack of sessions I think were what killed my interest in the game. I’m amazed we can have three ST greats here yet no one really plays. How does that happen? Quickly though, something I wanna say that’s off topic, you people that are trying to represent at Evo, you people need to come S-E-R-I-O-U-S. I cannot emphasize that enough. These other teams aren’t playing around. For one I’m sure these other areas are playing 430938490x more than we are. Don’t forget last year. Let that be your motivation to rape. But it leads me to this next point…
-At the end of it all, the game is simply not fun to me. Despite how competitive we may get, the leading factor in a video game is fun. Do you actually enjoy the experience? Is it worthwhile enough for you to play in an effort to learn? For me it’s not. For everytime someone jumps in on me and I try to get neutral jump rh, yet get that funky instant air spinning bird kick that doesn’t go anywhere (gee thx). For everytime I try to catch a runaway Akuma. For everytime I forget that Sagat cannot cancel the second hit of his standing short (why did he lose that?). I’m reminded that the game I was crazy about is gone, simply relegated to a mode that no one plays anymore. Obsolete. Game over man, game over.
The only silver lining I can find with this game is that since it sold well, it’s gonna usher in more hd remixes. Here’s hoping for like a remixed Alpha, or a remixed Darkstalkers game.
I would like to do a video debate about the merits of HDR over ST with Mandel and put it up on youtube, sometimes I feel like the only Seattle player who defends HDR.
Help me like Remix Julian, I’m looking for a reason to play again.
I’m serious.
No really, I am.
It is a good game, but I think that part of the problem depends on whether you find what was fixed in Remix over Vanilla infuriating. I do, which is why I like HDR. If the shortcommings of HDR are worse to you than what HDR attempted to fix, there really is no room for debate, it’s just a matter of taste.
For me, in regular ST it honestly felt like there is a certain barrier of skill level, above which you start to REALLY notice how big a deal the stupidly random damage and also random dizzies start determining the players’ fates almost as much as their decisions do. It really started robbing me of a LOT of fun when say, random jabs will dizzy me in a heated close game that just shouldn’t, because the last 10 seconds had been low-action. It wasn’t accrued dizzy damage that caused me to get dizzied, because I hadn’t been hit for a while… it was one of the looney tunes, “ANY hit has a chance of dizzying in ST” (I think 1 in 256 but I am not 100% sure) bs that killed me, the other player did nothing to earn that dizzy, he just won a lottery.
Also, times when I BY ALL RIGHTS should be dead, but the damage randomly decides to “bless” me, when I win after that it almost feels empty, because we both know that it wasn’t supposed to be like that. I also have seen people with zero vitality block WAYYYY too many chips that they should not have managed to do.
What weaknesses HDR has in game design (Akuma, T. Hawk probs, Honda being the scrub’s ultimate friend now), it makes up for in consistency, IMO. While I have still seen random dizzies I don’t agree with in HDR, it is about 1/10th as much as in ST. The damage is consistant. The control inputs are generally consistent ignoring bugs (not sure if the verdict is in if they are fixed in the patch now).
I think the beauty of HDR is that it strives to move away from the Pokerness of regular ST towards a more Chess like approach, which I can see some would find boring, but I either felt outraged at the ST randomness robbing me, or empty on victories where random things played out in my favor in regular ST.
It’s funny that HDR didn’t make you change characters, I never EVER would’ve touched Sagat in regular ST, but now that he has been changed from a nearly 100% fireball trap character to one who can brawl and do slightly less well in FB traps, I actually use him just because he’s more fun and toned down. I also MAIN Bison now in HDR which I would never have done in Vanilla ST, just because he has better defensive options. I also like Boxer being toned down, he is still hella good so it’s not a big deal, and IMO Cammy is actually useable now. Fei Long sucks worse and IMO is one of the worst injustices of HDR.
I have a lot more I could ramble on about but, just my thoughts. I truly love HDR and if we can get Akuma tournament banned I think the game is better in nearly every way over vanilla ST (which if it went back to being the standard, I am ALWAYS FOR LIFE down to play ST!!!)
Darkstalkers HDR would be bomb as hell.
To slightly derail… randomness (as in random number generators) are a big part of game design in regards to wide appeal. It reduces the dependency on pure skill to win at a game and encourages those with less skill. Like Julian said, there are times where because of random damage or dizzies, he would win a match when he “shouldn’t have”. This is part of the reason why games like Backgammon, Monopoly and WoW are popular, along with most card games. The mass appeal is just there. The use of randomness in ST is more subtle, but achieves the same effect. It helped get the game mass appeal and when the HDR version came out they sold a ton of copies. Of course its a good game and that’s where the majority of sales come from, but I would argue a small subset of the audience would’ve given up back in the day if they didn’t get “lucky” against better players every now and then and get some wins to encourage them.
