i actually liked new donk city. i was convinced that i wouldn’t like it bc i tend to prefer natural landscapes. but i legit liked it, and the festival was cool. I’m finally getting time to seriously play the game and damn its so good. its likely my favorite 3d mario.
So is Odyssey more akin to SM64 or Galaxy?
Been putting myself in the dark about this game.
I’m not sure what you mean by that really. It’s more like Mario 64 in the sense that you aren’t on spheres for all levels, but it’s more like Galaxy because it’s more modern with the controls and camera.
To me it is more like Mario 64 and I like it more than Galaxy just because the way it’s themed in little worlds rather than spherical stages.
This is what a post looks like when someone dies inside.
That they enjoy a game?
Some strange birds on this forum.
That they don’t enjoy New Donk City. That was good stuff!
On another note: After finishing 3D World Champions Road (lttp), BotW and New Donk City, I’ve been more than impressed with Nintendo’s presentation in their games. It’s been simple and subtle but just pulled off great. I don’t know maybe THAT’S just me, but the endings have really stuck with me because of the simplicity, to the point where I look at trailers from other games I’m just left flat, even when I’m supposed to feel something. I’m contrasting this with the recent PS4 trailers from Paris. Maybe because I’m used to the latter? Don’t know, but it’s been awesome on the Nintendo front in recent times for me.
Imo it feels like they took mario 64 and combined it with botw.
I don’t have the game but I worked a lot of overtime this week and might use it to pay for a switch. I think galaxy looks nicer, but the one thing that intrigues me about this game is the movement options and control
I just got to New Donk City.
Spoiler
Died a few times in that Bowser fight in the clouds before I got there. It got to the point the game had one of Sand kingdom folk magically appear and sell me a heart boost. I took that shit and finally figured out I was supposed to be attacking the hat first and then go after Bowser. Lead to a much better fight.
Overall enjoying the game, ain’t no way I have the platforming chops to get 800+ moons but I will do all that I can find.
yeah i gotta be honest…i’m not feeling this game enough to want to 100% it. i don’t have the will to look all over for all of those moons.
its too tedious. getting 500 is already tedious enough.
i’m going to try hard to at least get a total of 500 moons. i have about 100 to collect but eh…
this game makes me want to play galaxy and 3d world over or play through smb3. i might pick my snes classic back up and finish smrpg 100% instead.
About New Donk City
[details=Spoiler]I was so bummed when the Odyssey crashed into the Lost Kingdom after that fun Bowser boss fight. I was hyped for NDC right when I started Odyssey, no, before I even bought the game. And to have the game yank my chain like? That was SUCH a tease!
Also, I LOVE how this game constantly rewards curiosity, be it coins in out of the way places, or Power Moons right under your nose. I was standing on one of the rooftops of NDC and noticed pigeons were all landing in one spot. I do do a ground pound and boom, Power Moon. [/details]
made it to donk city just recently
did that jump challenge, made 42 jumps and then I looked at the leaderboards and I was like wth O_O lol
came up on $40 in eshop credit and not sure what to get. was looking at golf story and the complete shovel knight pack, but was also considering getting just one of those and have some credit left over for Rocket League in a week

Aero Fighers 2 (holding the Switch vertically), KOF '98 (Lucky Glauber on the go), Garou: Motw( MotW OST on the go, Rock Howard and Griffon/Mask themes on the go), Shock Troopers( I hear good things about it?), Metals Slug (on the go).

I’m positive some of those people gotta be working with turbo controllers.

Golf Story was a really good game I enjoyed every minute of it. It’s long too.
One thing I’m curious about regarding Fire Emblem Warriors… I notice some characters fight while mounted on a horse… is that all the time for those characters? I’m not a fan of how silly that shit looks, actually…if that’s the case, I just don’t like the idea that they cannot get off the damn horse and fight normally if you want.
Then there’s the other nitpick I have about musou games in general… that the regular enemies seem to rarely fight back. This genre is almost always featuring a horde of enemies that barely do anything…like a sea of “combat dummies” in a training mode.
*hmm…yeah from what I’m seeing on the forums… no ability to get off the mounts. Yeahhhh that 1 detail just took the game down a few notches for me…the fighting from horseback already looks kind of silly in this type of game in the first place.
(*on the other hand—fighting while mounted on caragor or other beasts in Shadow of War actually looks awesome and is fun.)
sheeeeit, I look forward to a Hyrule Warriors port though. Then again, knowing how odd Nintendo is about things…rarely seeming to go the sensible route-- it won’t surprise me if they don’t port the obvious choices like that or any of the Smash Bros., Bayonetta, etc. As a company they seem to love being the ones that don’t really make much sense half the goddamn time (e.g.–their incredibly bizarre, stupid ideas about how online game chat should work).
My favorite levels in Odyssey are the platforming challenges you get to through doors and pipes, especially the harder endgame ones.
Nintendo did a great job of catering to all skill levels in this game. It’s fairly straight forward and fun to beat King Koopa, but the game really opens up after that, especially when you master chaining cap jumps together to reach far platforms. My favorite thing to do in Mario games is to run fast and be all acrobatic and shit, and Odyssey really lends itself to that kind of gameplay if you want it to. I’m pushing 300 moons now and I think I’m going to try to 100% this game.
cheh, Switchforce’s vid on Sonic Forces…

of course I’m interested in this, but this week and the next are all about PORTABLE Doom and Skyrim for me, man… no way I can resist that.
Anyone buy this game yet? Looks like a cool side-scroller beat em up with beautiful animations.
