The Nintendo Switch Thread! - Deadly Premonition 2: Blessing in Disguise 7/10 - Paper Mario: The Origami King 7/17

I got all the purple coins in Cascade, now I’m exploring Tostareno. Loving it so far!

I’m rocking Mexican Mario right now!

I just dropped 1000 coins for the shorts. But I ain’t rocking those yet. I’m waiting for a beach area to break those out.

This game is fun and holy hell that damn list. Looking at the first area like how did I miss that many $%##%. I swore I tore that place open

areas open up more as you progress…that stuff may not have been available when you first went through that kingdom.

i finished the water kingdom and am in the wood one now. these kingdoms seem pretty short and i’m literally collecting to dress mario. hopefully the story opens up more and there will be cooler areas.

Heeey the lyrics to jump up superstar on the inside of the cover art. Nice!

Just played Mario for like 30 minutes, gonna play for a couple hours once I put my son to sleep.

Something about the controls does feel a bit off in this game. It feels a bit too loose or something. So far it’s not like hindering the gameplay or anything, it just is different.

Coins seem to respawn as well as the enemies that have them. Even if you’ve already collected the currency for the kingdom you’re in, you should pick it up again as it well be converted to coins. If theboxer shorts were 1000 coins, I’m sure other stuff is gonna be much more expensive.

Got my copy…just in time to go to work. Guess I’ll play on breaks

After 2+ hours with this game, this game is fucking fantastic. The level design is incredible. So much thought put into this game.

I agree. About 4 hours in and the level design is amazing. Only complaint are the boss battles seem super easy yet so much work went into their mechanics and they look fantastic. Hopefully more comes from future boss fights…

Oh and the music is meh so far

I went back to the Cap Kingdom after running through the Sand Kingdom for hours. Turns out there is much more to explore than I initially thought. I thought it was just a tutorial area but no, it’s a full blown kingdom. I even bought Mario some dapper clothes!

Capturing a frog is probably the closest we’ll get to Frog Mario again. But the jump game is sooooo much higher. Plus he looks so dang cute.

I caved and got Odyssey, had like 4 games that i didn’t want anymore, traded them and ended up only having to pay $6 out of pocket for Odyssey hehe.

My only gripe about Odyssey is the force motion control bullshit. It simply is a stupid tacked on “feature” that they are trying to force on us. It was a terrible decision IMO to design the game around this considering there are like 4 ways to control the game, and only 1 of them really works with motion controls (joycons apart). Otherwise it is completely terible to try and have to move the controller to do these stupid little things that could just as easily be done by holding another button or something else. Just terrible design decision.

I’m going to be playing it on a train for 4 hours on Thursday in handheld mode and having to flail the whole console around is going to be retarded.

Also, why have a setting to disable motion controls, that literally does absolutely nothing? I turned it off, and there are still moves that require it, and when I move my controller, the motion controls are still working.

I’ve only played in handheld mode so far. The motion controls aren’t required for advancement. I just ignore them.

I finished Sand Kingdom today, not 100% but did mimium requirements to move on + a bit more. Enjoying the game, now me personally, I’m not a huge fan of Mario but I do like his 3d games. And I’ve been enjoying this one the most in terms of traditional 3D(as in not 3D World/Land). And it’s mostly due to level structure of the game, where I felt like Galaxy and 64 had levels, this game legit feels like there’s is worlds. The game basically drops you in and is like “ok, screw around and figure out where moons are or how to get to ones you can already see” so that’s pretty fun.

Crazy how a small change in structure causes a waterfall effect for the feel of the game.

Biggest thing they did I like was once you collect a moon, they don’t bump you back out of the world and make you reenter again! That was annoying since Mario 64. Just collect and keep going.

yup! thats pretty much what changed the structure, was def annoying having to get kicked out after finding a star

Lol (minor spoiler)

Spoiler

After decades of ice levels, FINALLY a good, warm jacket!

this game still isn’t as impressive as 3d world was to me. dunno its decent but not better IMO. hoping the post game puts it over or something. we’ll see.
