Thanks. I tried it out yesterday for about 5 minutes and it is just as bad as I thought it would be. Just not for me.

Got up and played this morning this time using nothing but motion controls. Motion Controls for Arms is definitely a bit harder and takes a bit to get used too. I lost far more battles because of just not being used to the controls. They aren’t nearly as pick up and play as playing with just a controller set up but again I can easily see some of the advantages of playing in this manner than playing with the controller. I see it in a situation similar to Splatoon where you can play that traditionally on twin sticks and you’ll still do pretty well against most but you’re going to reach a wall against someone who’s mastered finessing his aim using the motion controls.
Motion Controls are actually pretty responsive and despite what probably most believe you don’t need to stand up to play in that manner either. I sat down the entire time and used 1/3 arm extends to throw punches and the game knew what I was doing. It’s far better in responsiveness than the Wii motion plus controllers easily imo. It’s also great seeing your attempts to finesse and curve your punches translate to the screen and when they hit it’s pretty damn satisfying. It gets kind of rub your head pat your tummy a bit when you’re trying to do something like…jump, dash to the left side to avoid an incoming punch in midair, throwing a right and then needing it to curve just slightly to the right to hit your opponent. Controls work pretty well as they’re set up as well…only thing I had issues with at first was the button to change opponent focus being the up button on the left joy con. I couldn’t figure out how to comfortably hit that and then I realized that it was because I was trying to reach it with my thumb instead of just using my middle finger which because of the way you’re holding the controllers actually rests comfortably nearby.
Gotta head into work but long story short for this is Arms is fun to play either way. They gave you options instead of just saying ‘you’re gonna play this way and like it’ so it’s completely up to you in terms of how you wanna play this game but just know that if you’re super against motion controls there’s probably going to be a period where you’ll have to make a choice to actually learn them or probably get owned most of the time by the people who put the time and effort in to learn them.
This man gets it. Also I found out you can change your target with y on the right controller as well in case it’s not as easy to use your left hand.

Is this Arms thing open to anyone? I thought the game looks so stupid from videos and what I’ve seen, but if it’s free to try I’d at least give it a shot. I was surprised with how much I liked MK8D so I’m open to trying it.
yes it’s open to anyone. just make sure you dl it from the eshop and then you have 2 opportunities tomorrow to try it.
Thanks. I tried it out yesterday for about 5 minutes and it is just as bad as I thought it would be. Just not for me.
Why did you even buy a Switch?

Maybe he wanted to play other Switch games?
I will say this, there are people out there that just want to pick up a controller and go. Trying to get out of your comfort zone is tough sometimes so I can’t hate on anyone not willing to let their ass get beat over and over until they learn.

Like what? You buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games with wacky control schemes/premises, Smash Bros, Mario(Kart), and Zelda.
Maybe you’ll get a cool experimental IP from a 3rd party or two, or Ninty will trot out a forgotten IP like Donkey Kong or Metroid once in a while, but that’s it.
Anyone who doesn’t know this by now deserves what they get.

liking nintendo enough to justify purchasing their consoles =/= buying/enjoying all their games

I hate Sony as a company, but damn if there ain’t games I wanna play.
And for all my hate towards Capcpom, I love the fuck out of what it used to be, and will support them again if they ever take their heads out of their asses.
Won’t happen, but I would.

Why are you so butt hurt that I don’t like a game you do?
I wasn’t aware that the only reason to buy a console is if you want to give every game on the console a 10/10.
Thanks for clarifying that for me dad.

I don’t care what you like or don’t like, but you consistently bitch about just about every Switch title. Which leads to the question,
“Why did you buy a Switch to begin with?”
Pokémon Direct in 10 minutes:
I expect a cross-platform Switch/3DS announcement for the third game in the Sun & Moon gen. And I hope it’s not called ‘Stars’ because that’d make no sense at all.
You set yourself up for that disappointment.
Gamefreak is like Toriyama… They will always subvert your expectations and troll.
Why is expecting Nintendo moving forward setting myself up for disappointment?
…oh wait, never mind.
Still, the recycling of WiiU games for Switch seems at the top of their priority list still. UM and US are just like Black and White 2. They might turn out great but nobody was asking for them and they arrive at a platfom well past its prime. Nothing for me in that Direct, I played Pokkén (on WiiU) und Moon already.
I kinda figured Pokken DX would be in the Direct since it’s been rumored since the switch was announced.
Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon sound super meh. I didn’t like Sun/Moon.
Gold and Silver on 3DS Virtual Console though. <3
I’m keeping my word on not buying a Switch until it gets its own mainline Pokemon game.
To be fair, Switch supply has been lackluster as it is, so why put all your coins into a product that people can’t even buy?
But mainline Pokemon has the biggest potential on the Switch, so if they don’t eventually make a game like that happen then I will never have a Switch in my living room.
There will Pokemon on Switch eventually. That’s guaranteed.
This is probably a stop-gap measure to buy Gamefreak time to develop a full Switch Pokemon game.
I just think that Namco could’ve given Wii U players the arcade characters sometime over the almost year it went without another patch after 1.3. Not like files for the arcade characters showed up in an update or anything, either.
