The Nintendo Switch Thread! - Deadly Premonition 2: Blessing in Disguise 7/10 - Paper Mario: The Origami King 7/17

Certain techniques are straight up impossible to do without motion controls in this game, though.

That’s assuming that you can remap the controls. If you couldn’t do it in the beta, I have my doubts that you can do it in the full game. This team didn’t let you remap controls in their last game either. Have fun with clicking the stick to block.

Not right before, I left around 5 mins before the end of it, I was Iduno.

Is there any way in MK8 to just compare the stats of different characters and stuff without going in the game and just looking at them and comparing them? It seems hard to compare side by side and I really have no clue who to use. I’m using Toad just because I’ve always used him but most people at the top of the placing when I was online last night were not using him lol, they were using people in the top row, so I’m assuming they are the most “average” of them all?

Afaik no, but I know in the last version there’s only 3 weight classes. Not sure if they changed that but it’s not hard to figure out decent setups for the various modes. For 150 I use Bowser with the pipe bike and slim wheels, for 200 I use Tanooki Mario with either the Jeep looking cart or pipe cart and cyber slick wheels because purple. Besides speed and acceleration you want to look at handling especially for 200, traction iirc helps with not going quite so slow in the dirt.

Bikes handle slightly different from carts , etc etc etc, it’s really all kind of trial and error. If you have a combo that you literally can’t stay on the track with then obviously you’ll want to change.

I really believe that most of the cast is viable in comparison to past Mario Karts due to the different parts. You can just pick the character you want and then work adjust the parameters using just the parts to race the way you want. If you do want someone heavier or lighter you will need to choose the appropriate character in that instance since you can adjust weight using parts some what but that may come at a bit of a sacrifice for how you want to race.

Well I assumed we where talking about Ken and Ryu, so i said Lights and Strongs, it depends on who you are playing if I remember right.

Man I was just in a lobby of killers in ARMS. People grab so much I’m hesitant to block anything, but I want to try the dash after a block thingy.

It seems like they went back to weight classes having their own identity. Like all heavyweights are fast with poor turning and acc and so on

Toad 4 Life…

having tons of fun with USF2 atm

Expecting a new “cool and funny moments” vid featuring USF2 now.

Fuck yeah, new Splatoon Amiibos just went up for pre-order on Amazon.

No sign of Corrin yet though.

Corrin likely won’t go up until release day.

ARMS Testpunch started again. Twintelle is available to play, plus some new game modes. The basketball one is surprisingly fun, but I still prefer volleyball.

Reminder of Arms test punch times

One is happening in an hour and 55 minutes that I’m gonna try out.

played the game for a full hour in handheld mode and Arms is pretty fun. More fun that I was expecting. I want to try it with the motion controls cause I can definitely see the benifits of getting used to using them vs the buttons but I thought I managed pretty well. Only other time I’ll get a chance is the one at 8 in the morning…unsure if I’m gonna wake up for that or not. Still unsure if I’m gonna buy the game day 1 but I’m more interested than I was previously.

Is this Arms thing open to anyone? I thought the game looks so stupid from videos and what I’ve seen, but if it’s free to try I’d at least give it a shot. I was surprised with how much I liked MK8D so I’m open to trying it.

yes it’s open to anyone. just make sure you dl it from the eshop and then you have 2 opportunities tomorrow to try it.

Got up and played this morning this time using nothing but motion controls. Motion Controls for Arms is definitely a bit harder and takes a bit to get used too. I lost far more battles because of just not being used to the controls. They aren’t nearly as pick up and play as playing with just a controller set up but again I can easily see some of the advantages of playing in this manner than playing with the controller. I see it in a situation similar to Splatoon where you can play that traditionally on twin sticks and you’ll still do pretty well against most but you’re going to reach a wall against someone who’s mastered finessing his aim using the motion controls.

Motion Controls are actually pretty responsive and despite what probably most believe you don’t need to stand up to play in that manner either. I sat down the entire time and used 1/3 arm extends to throw punches and the game knew what I was doing. It’s far better in responsiveness than the Wii motion plus controllers easily imo. It’s also great seeing your attempts to finesse and curve your punches translate to the screen and when they hit it’s pretty damn satisfying. It gets kind of rub your head pat your tummy a bit when you’re trying to do something like…jump, dash to the left side to avoid an incoming punch in midair, throwing a right and then needing it to curve just slightly to the right to hit your opponent. Controls work pretty well as they’re set up as well…only thing I had issues with at first was the button to change opponent focus being the up button on the left joy con. I couldn’t figure out how to comfortably hit that and then I realized that it was because I was trying to reach it with my thumb instead of just using my middle finger which because of the way you’re holding the controllers actually rests comfortably nearby.

Gotta head into work but long story short for this is Arms is fun to play either way. They gave you options instead of just saying ‘you’re gonna play this way and like it’ so it’s completely up to you in terms of how you wanna play this game but just know that if you’re super against motion controls there’s probably going to be a period where you’ll have to make a choice to actually learn them or probably get owned most of the time by the people who put the time and effort in to learn them.

I do agree the motions controls have a slight learning curve, but for the most part the controls are initiative and the game is very smart on knowing what you want to do.
I am the “against motions controls” guy, and I find these controls to be pretty responsive and intuitive to use. Arms’ motion controls is like using a twin stick setup for Virtual on.

Before the new test scheduled I found the match making left alot to be desired.
I also found I can win most matches if they are’t the team matches. 1v1, 1v1v1, and Volleyball games I usually pwn the opponents
