You actually have to brake around some turns. It takes actual skill, something foreign to most mario kart players
Having two screens was NICE for Mario Maker, but by no means necessary. You can get by just fine creating levels with a gamepad. I made hella complex things in LittleBigPlanet using sticks, and that game has you actually draw shapes.
Plus, you’ve got fairly precise motion controls on the Switch, so you can do a mouse cursor kinda thing on the TV using the Joycons.
Mario Maker will do just fine on the Switch. Having a true portable version of the game would be godlike, too.
Re: Mario Kart DS: If you all are referring to snaking when it comes to the “high skill ceiling” in Mario Kart DS, screw that noise. Snaking was never fun. It limited your possible character/kart selection down to a handful if you wanted to be the least bit competitive, and turned every race into goddamn Track 'n Field.
I dug the rest of the game, but they really needed to give the rock-back-and-forth speed boosts a cooldown. In fact, that would give the game a HIGHER skill ceiling than snaking, because you’d have to be strategic about when you did the skidboost.
You want an edge over your competition? Learn the dang tracks. Know the racing lines, figure out where it’s best to jumpboost or to go straight, figure out the ways to get your speed back up fast around the track if you do get hit. THINK about the game rather than equating “how many hops can I get in every time I boost” with skill.
I went back to one of my OG mains, Koopa Troopa, complete with the pipe frame cart setup and decided to play more strategically and had a much better time online last night than I did before.
As for 200cc MK, breaking is a must. It also might help to pick a lightweight racer.

You play 200cc for an hour and then go back to 150cc and its like you see the code in the matrix.
came in first for my first 200cc cup. woulda got a 3 star but i literally got hit like 5 times in a row right before the finish lol

If you host a room you can make it whatever cc you want. As for finding a game and tournament play I’m not sure.

The it starts out at 100cc in worldwide and regional but once you gain points eventually it will go to 150cc. Dunno if it will go to 200cc and I can’t remember if mirror was a thing online or not.

The problem is, Samus isn’t that popular within the target audience of MK games. In Japan while the character is well known, her games don’t sell and only a few developers that probably are fans of the game are in position to give her the push to get into the game. The Inklings are fucking overnight sensations in Japan with Splatoon being THE most successful selling original console game in Japan for the past several years. Samus last two games were Other M and Federation Force…
Nintendo’s roster is pretty deep, there are plenty more logical and popular characters that could crossover to Mario Kart, unless we get another hit Metroid game that blows up her status, it is unlikely. At least her place in Smash Bros is secure and Americans will continue to bug the shit out of them asking about Metroid until someone caves thanks to its cult classic status among developers, media and general adventure loving fans alike.

with his life like proportions in a tiny kart so his knees are up to his chest ,and when he gets a star i want him to falcon punch people he touches.
They never should have added characters from the other franchises. Now everyone is going to want every character in it. I’m liberal as hell but when it comes to games titled “Mario” I believe in separate but equal lol.

i would really like a wave race game for the switch. i don’t know why Nintendo ignores this franchise because its one of my personal favorites, the wave physics were always solid and the graphics are usually really slick.
