The Nintendo Switch Thread! - Deadly Premonition 2: Blessing in Disguise 7/10 - Paper Mario: The Origami King 7/17

I played through Metal Slug 2 on my MAME cabinet and it was painful. I could not believe how much slowdown it was. I thought it was the pi3+ but then I read that is real to the game. And then I started Metal Slug X which is like part 2 without the slowdown, but I didn’t play much of it since I had literally just finished the game.

Then I think it was part 3 I played that was full of aliens and shit and I was like WTF happened to this series? Heard the ones after are even more out there. Part 3 dragged the hell on too.

Part 3 is very long but quit good. X is also really good.

Metal Slug 3 is the first arcade game I ever 1cc’d.

Yeah ether skip one and two, or get the rom hacks for them.

Metal slug X is where the real series start, and I would ignore 6 as it’s done by a completely different dev team.

By the way if you want to legit buy Neo Geo roms. Many GOG.com Neo Geo titles have the rom file in the install folder. It’s usually a zip file with a bunch if generically named rom files inside.

I dunno, I enjoyed MS1 way more than MS3. MS3 was just a chore and I simply don’t like the alien enemies and “bugs” or whatever the hell they are. And then the end just drags on and on and on and it just didn’t keep me interested.

I can see that. I like 3 a lot more then 1, but if I did have a complaint with 3 it’s that it is too long. With all the alt routes they could have shortened the games length a bit and probably not lost much in the long run.

THe fact you 1cc’d that shit is pretty damn impressive. I thought it was hard as shit in parts and the final boss and stuff in space.

Yea…last time I remember playing that game. Was like 15 years ago lol.

Metal Slug X is awesome, though I probably have some bias as it was the first MS game I ever played/owned. Actually, it was among my earliest Switch digital purchases and the game does hold up very well.

I’ve never played any Devil May Cry games but DMC3 on the Switch? That is looking like prime GOAT material right there. I was ready to not even look at the DMC games on Switch but DMC3 may have changed my mind. I’ve heard DMC2 is a low point but if I do try the series out, I’d want to play it and find out for myself.

I’m really grateful the games in the Psikyo Shooting Stars collections have adjustable difficulty setting. Most of these games turn into borderline bullet hell shooters on normal. I thought very easy would be safe for Dragon Blaze but that game has no chill even on one of the lowest settings. I’m tempted to set Dragon Blaze on child difficulty.

DMC2 is so universally hated it’s been pushed back in the series’s time line so far it may as well not even be canon. DMC2 is the complete antithesis of everything people love about DMC.

I’ve never even played the game and I can clearly see from watching gameplay videos that everything about that game is a fucking dumpster fire.

I remember my 1st time playin Metal Slug, my cousin had a hacked ps1 that played bootleg games. The game (& bootlegging itself) blew me away with its graphics, it was like Contra on crack. We played tf outta of it

(Also, got introduced to Street Fighter EX via a bootleg copy too)

I started playing the Zero/ZX collection and I’m annoyed by it’s button mapping options. It only has the options that are available in the original games. I hate having to use B as the attack button. It doesn’t feel natural. X and Y get nothing. I can’t play the game how I want.

Didn’t they shift 2 back to somewhere in the middle of the timeline because of V? Believe its 3,1,2,4,and then V now.

This isn’t true anymore actually. Capcom has shuffled 2s placement around a few times. Now it’s between 4 and 5. So the order is DMC3>1>4>2>5.

If I’m remembering right. As I said they keep moving it because it’s crap and they can’t decide what to do with it.

As garbage as it was, id like them to remake DMC2 one day. Fix the shit gameplay, add new enemies and bring the story more in line with the rest of the series. Maybe give more background on Lucia & delve further into Dante’s alleged depression during these events

They fix a shit game AND find a place for it into the timeline

(ofcourse after we get a direct sequel to 5 showing Dante & Vergil wreck shit thru the 9 stages of hell. I feel like the co-op mode Capcom added to Switch DMC3 & 5 is them testing out features out for the next game)

I don’t think they can fix the story of DMC2. The biggest problem with it is there’s no reason for Dante to be in it. DMC2 is really Lucia story and Dante is just along for the ride. It’s why DMC5 lumped DMC2 with the anime in the series timeline. It’s filler.

My theory behind this thinking is the ending to 5. My theory is if we get a 6, Vergil dies for real at the end leading to Dante’s change in attitude (AKA depression) in DMC2. DMC barely has a story, so it most definitely can be fixed

But the simpler route is just go with Vergil dying then stating 2 takes place after that game.

DMC5 has been established as post DMC2. None of that can happen unless Capcom wants to retcon again.

Capcom the kings of retcons, they’ve never let a thing like that stop them.:joy: I doubt anything i said will actually happen, just fun to think about

The problem with that is also one Capcom had with the Mega Man X/Zero and the Street Fighter franchises, like Zero or several SF characters Vergil is too damn popular to kill off for good.

My only issue with remaking DMC2 is that you would have to do so much work you’d basically be making a new game so…just make a new one.
