The Nintendo Switch Thread! - Deadly Premonition 2: Blessing in Disguise 7/10 - Paper Mario: The Origami King 7/17

Yeah the Pro Controller is probably the best controller in the history of video games in my opinion. It fits like a damn glove. It’s basically flawless.

The D-pad could be better and I’d argue it should have analogue triggers but I’d struggle to find a better pad as well. I think the One controller is pretty good as well, but I hate the upper shoulder buttons on that.

They did that because of the joycons.

Not sure how far you want to take your quest, but you might want to look into the Microsoft Xbox Adaptive controller. It really is an amazing tool in regards to gaming accessibility, and you can make it work on the Switch with an adapter as per the video below.

It depends on the game. Most that use the one joycon set up are party or puzzle games. The only major game I know for certain can be played with just one is Pokemon let’s go.

I forgot all about that.

the xbox access controller uses 3.5mm trs Jack’s so you can add stuff as much as you want

There also the Ben Heck approche, he hacked quite a few one handed pads.

I can post a video later of one of his mods.

both Fry’s I visited were sold out. Profound sadness indeed.

DONT FORGET ABOUT THE POKÉMON DIRECT HAPPENING (technically) TODAY!

It’s at 8am my time. I have no want or need to get up at that early. So I’m not going to be able to watch live. Which is fine. Unless they show something crazy amazing during the direct I won’t have any inkling to get Sword or Shield.

The starters are ugly as fuck and have really boring designs. The starters are generally considered the flag ship creatures for that gen. If they look bad than usually the rest of that gen will look shitty too. Sun/Moon has some cool designs but outside of a handful of Pokémon it was a very boring and lackluster gen and honestly a severe low point in the series. For a multitude of reasons. Not just the lack of creativity in the Pokémon.

Idk how I feel about dynamax yet but I like everything so far for the most part. Some of the new pokemon do look plain for sure.

I’ll prob grab Shield cuz I think most kids think swords are cool and will get Sword.

Kaiju battles and a cute new turtle Pokémon eh?

I see what you’re trying to do Nintendo.

Dynamax looks stupid in every possible way but everything else seems nice.

Kaiju battles are sweet though! It also seems to be a very small part of the game and not as pushed as Mega Evolutions or Z-Attacks were XY and SunMoon respectively. Both of which were stupid ideas, imo. Some cool designs came out of Mega’s but also some painfully bad ones. Z-Moves were just fucking dumb, imo.

As of now you can only use Dynamax mode during Gym Battles and Raid Battles. Will likely branch into online battling as well. Which is fine by me.

Though I’m still pretty on the fence about Sword and Shield I really liked everything they showed in the direct this morning. The new Pokémon they showed off were really cool. I really like Drednaw. It’s such a cutie. This game already looks waaaay better that SunMoon. It also seems like they learned from a lot of the mistakes they made in SunMoon. We’ll see come November, I guess.

It comes out a week before my birthday so maybe I can convince someone to gift it to me.

What was wrong with megaevolutions and what’s a Z attack and why does it suck?

I just didn’t like them as a concept. A lot of the mega evolutions were just ways to keep a lot of the older gen’s relevant. A lot of cool designs came from them but I just found the whole idea and mechanic very bad. When you do something like that it should effect every Pokémon, imo. Well, their final evolution or whatever Pokémon doesn’t have an evolution. Not just certain ones. I get they simply didn’t have the time and likely the designs to do that for every Pokémon. But it just felt like a very haphazard and poorly planned mechanic.

Z-Moves were an interesting take on widening a Pokémon’s move pool but there were several z-crystals that simply worked better on certain Pokémon which effected the online meta a lot. The mechanic also felt very show horned in.

While I appreciate Gamefreak/Pokémon trying to make each region unique through battle mechanics and such I feel like both missed the mark.

Mega Gengar is probably one of the best mega designs though. And the emo edgelord that is Mega Absol

Mega Evolutions brought us Mega Houndoom. All the shitty mega evos can be forgiven with that alone. :triumph:
