The Nintendo Switch Thread! - Deadly Premonition 2: Blessing in Disguise 7/10 - Paper Mario: The Origami King 7/17

So I guess in MM2, co-op online play only matches you with randoms. You CAN’T play with friends. Only way is local.

This…

Nintendo’s reasoning is that, with global leaderboards, the matchmaking for competitive play would be compromised if you could play with friends. That limitation also extends to co-op play as well despite those not being leaderboard driven.

… is HORSESHIT.

How the fuck would it be compromised?

For every step forward Nintendo makes they take even more backwards.

Oh, it gets better. There is NO amiibo support for it, whatsoever.

No more costumes.

Also, I say FUCK the leaderboards. I want to play with my goddamned friends! What the fuck is the point of multiplayer if you’re limited to a bunch of fucking random fucking motherfuckers?

This doesn’t confirm

Iirc All the costumes were unlockable by clearing x amount of courses in Mario Maker, weren’t they? amiibo just unlocked them immediately instead of grinding for them.

I mean. Yeah. I totally agree with this.

Gamexplain confirmed no amiibos, and no costumes. Sonic posted a video in the VG thread.

I’m aware. What I’m saying is that even though SMM1 had amiibo support all the costumes and power ups were unlockable by normally playing the game. Amiibo just gained instant access to them instead of earning them.

From what I understand in the video I watched, they confirmed no costumes. Sorry if I wasn’t clear.

And yes, I know you could unlock costumes in SMM1- the only amiibo I own is pixel Mario, and I had nearly all the costumes unlocked.

If that’s the case that’s a bummer. Maybe hope for them in a patch or DLC pack?

I wish we would have gotten some of the Japan exclusive costumes in SMM1. Mainly BabyMetal. That shit was great.

They did send out several patches for the first game, so it’s not impossible (though probably improbable) they patch in amiibo support.

But I imagine they’d patch in multiplayer with friends first- more people will probably raise a stink about that and it seems like it’d be an easier thing to update than adding a bunch of new sprites and a mystery mushroom powerup.

Why not have a separate lobby for friends that doesn’t count towards leaderboard rankings??

IS ANYBODY LISTENING TO ME?

Maybe. I honestly feel like amiibo as a brand is just spinning its wheels at this point. Less and less games have had relevant amiibo support or amiibo support in general. We’re only getting Smash Bros reprints because of Ultimate. The amiibo card experiment was pretty much DOA because they only released them for 3 games that supported them. Those being Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, Mario Sports All-Stars or whatever and MUCH MUCH later and after the fact, Animal Crossing New Leaf. There were other reasons they failed too. But that’s the one that sticks out the most in my mind.

We get a game exclusive/special edition here and there like the loot goblin, Detective Pikachu or the praise the sun dude but they’re so few and far in-between.

I think once all of the reprints roll out and all of the “new” characters introduced in Smash Ultimate along with the DLC characters for Ultimate get released they’re going to pull the plug on amiibo.

Which is fine. It was a good run. They launched in 2013 I believe? 6 years is good.

However, They did put an NFC reader in the switch joycon though so maybe they still have plans for them? Who knows. :woman_shrugging:t3:

Whatever they do I’m fine with it. It’s been a fun hobby. Kept me from going insane. Met some cool people through collecting. And they’re cool little figures of some of the most beloved characters in gaming history. Which to me is pretty cool. I don’t regret hunting down every amiibo they’ve released to date.

Didn’t Nintendo have some wack-ass leaderboard set up in Smash so as to not hurt people’s feelings?

And now we don’t have proper mutliplayer in SMM2 because it will hurt the leaderboard’s feelings?

And this is the online service we’re paying for? We can’t even play with friends online. WTF!

(Yes, I’m throwing a temper tantrum right now, fuck you.)

I have no idea. I never played online.

Lol. Nintendo is weird. They embrace certain aspects of competition like Pokken Tournament being a mainstay at the Pokémon World Championships every year since it came out along with Splatoon and smash tournaments being at e3 for a while now.

Yet online leaderboards? SPOOKY SCARY!

Nintendo: “Sorry to report, but OUR online service will be missing some basic features of online gaming services, such as chatting with friends. Oh, yeah… you can’t play with your friends, either.”

Also Nintendo: “Please give us $20.”

Naw man. I feel you. I get it and agree 100%. A simple and what should be a standard feature being omitted to keep “online leaderboard integrity” is fucking stupid and a horrible excuse.

Hmm. With this news I may cancel my SMM2 + NSO preorder prior to launch.

Man you’re being a brat at this point. SMM2 not having online multi doesn’t mean all their online games also lack multiplayer support.

Stay on topic with your temper tantrum lest you end up saying shit that isn’t true and sound like an idiot in the process.
