The Nintendo Switch Thread! - Deadly Premonition 2: Blessing in Disguise 7/10 - Paper Mario: The Origami King 7/17

This is a review of the lateset Genesis Collection that appeared on the PS4 and Xbone. He reviews the Xbone version, but this is coming to Switch with exclusive features. TL:DR is M2 is obviously better, but they aren’t doing all these games featured here for the AGES collection. He also talks about the other Genesis collections released. The Dreamcast Smash pack was terrible, lol. I had the Genesis and most of the games at the time so it was funny to compare at the time.

I skipped on it for the PS4, but I think I’ll grab it for the Switch despite, going to skip it originally. Being able to play Beyond Oasis, Shinobi, and Treasure games with the Swtich form factor is too hard to pass up. It doesn’t look or sound as bad as I thought it would be.

Yeah I saw that back in June.

The review convince me that this collection is a hard pass for me

Anyone have any bluetooth adapter they use for audio on the Switch? I’ve been doing some research this morning and it seems the ones that work with no latency are like $40 and that Genki one that looks more like a true Switch adapter is $40 and ships in November. It’s pretty crummy of Nintendo to make us buy a BT adapter to use wireless headphones. But after leaving my wireless headphones on an airplane this past weekend because I was using my wired ones to play Switch the whole flight, I think I’m going to pony up the $40 and get an adapter so I don’t have to lug 2 sets of headphones around anymore.

I used my bluetooth adapter once for my Switch. I use some cheap one I get from Best Buy for $20 dollars and it worked fine with my wireless headphones. The sound is a bit off though.

Yeah if the sound is off and there is any latency, that’s something I can’t deal with. That is apparently what a lot of the ones that plug into the 3.5mm headphone jack have just due to the technology of it having to do the conversion of the sound on the fly. It naturally adds some latency (at least from my small research this morning).

Now that’s gotta be some of the most interesting info I’d heard on SHMUPs. One of the items you can collect in Omega Fighter actually slows everything down so you can get closer to enemies and get a higher multiplier or get out of a tight spot.

I did pick up Battle Garegga and Dangun Feveron on the PS4 but I would totally double dip if they came wot the Switch. I never knew how much I needed tate mode in my live until I played SHMUPs on my Switch.

Did you guys hear about the Darius Cozmic Collection? I was stoked at first. Then Taito found a way to eff it up.

TATE mode is love. TATE mode is life.

What’s up with Darius?

This link pretty much covers it: http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2018/07/warning_darius_cozmic_collection_is_approaching_switch_fast

But the TLDR version of it is, the limited edition has more games, nine while the standard edition has four. Oh and Since Segaia and Darius II on the Megadrive are the same game in different regions, that’s one less game. Japan only release but the Switch is region free. Oh and it also costs way too much moola for either version. Heck, the upcoming SNK 40th Anniversary Collection has more games than Darius Cozmic Collection and costs less.

That’s pretty lame.

Has anyone here used the Pokken Tournament controller? It looks like a good controller to play classic games on and Amazon sells them for less than $20 brand new.

I’ve only used it in Pokken Tournament on the Wii U and it’s a pretty good controller. Comfortable to hold, responsive buttons, etc. It’s a Hori product and they make excellent stuff.

I got the older Wii U version, and I have used it on the Switch.

For Classic games its quite good, and if you are Pad-player for fighters, its not a bad pad for fighters ether. Works well for game originally for the NES, Neo Geo and the Such.

I’ve actually got two of those Hori Pokken Tournament Pro Pads. I was making some mistakes I never do in Super Mario Bros. 3 today using the JoyCon grip since I wanted to give my Pro Controller a break. I had forgotten that the Pokken Tournament Pro Pads could be used on the Switch now. These might be my go to pads for old games.

Also, why the EFF is Ghosts 'n Goblins one of the first available NES games? They trying to make gamers go insane and and kill themselves?

Honestly, because Nintendo hates you all.

I know better than to touch Ghost n’ Goblins. That game makes Bayou Billy look like Mega Man 3.

Bought DBFZ for the Switch and it’s a pretty solid port so far. The colors are a tad bit different and the textures for the background are a bit noticably muddy in areas but this is pretty solid for on the go. I have plenty of Pro controllers so I won’t have to worry about attempting to do stuff on the joy con when I can avoid it at least.

that’s a tough choice for me there… I want Dragonball and naturally would prefer it portable…BUT Nintendo’s online plans are sooooo bootleg/shitty… so basically it would be a 1-player deal for me on that system, I suppose except when I happen to be in town with certain friends (*and really there’s only 1 dude I can think of that even likes fighting games; the other old high school buddy is someone that sadly died several years ago [<-drug problems])

*so it would be better for me to get it on XB1 if I wanted to actually play against people regularly…BUT that appeal of having it portable is strong…it may take me a while on that one.

I’m back on Dead Cells again; the pace of everything in this game is amazing…when you have a good build, it’s like everything flows “like water” as the great Bruce Lee would say. I took a break just now as the system charges for a bit… my build is some really good shit at the moment—I have the crossbow as a primary weapon with the +ammo mutation…along with a deployable turret that shoots arrows constantly at nearby enemies…another mutation is that I gain +130something DPS if I’m near a deployed object like that, so it boosts the damage further. This little combo is amazing…and that’s not even all of my setup-- my secondary weapon is a shield, and I’m pretty good with the parries at this point…and I have my usual “flash-step” as the other “ZR” ability… I always go for that. The health on the first boss got absolutely shredded; I’ve never beat him that fast before.
*I’m glad this game is doing well; they deserve it— I notice it seems to stay in a high spot on the “best sellers” list when you check eShop.

Your setup in Dead Cells is interesting. I’ve never even used a shield before and didn’t know that was how you parry lol. I pretty much use a melee weapon then a secondary weapon like whip or arrows. As I’ve played more and more I realize how important the L/R weapons are as well, because at first I kept ignoring them. I also realized how much smarter it is to plan your attacks and be smart about it. The first 3 levels are pretty cake and that boss can be tough if you don’t have a good setup, but the levels after that really require a lot more thinking and planning to kill enemies.

I’ve only gotten to the second boss, once, but pretty much every time I play I get a LITTLE farther, which I like and which makes me keep coming back. And as you said, the game just “flows” and there is something about it that is awesome. The art style, sound, everything just fits perfectly. The animation is awesome too.

I am pretty sure too there are some permanent things that I haven’t gotten yet because of all these places I can’t access yet, like they are too high or something like that. I haven’t played it in a week though and have been stuck on Yoku’s Island Adventure since I got home last weekend. I beat it but have some stuff I haven’t unlocked yet and I just want to unlock everything because the game is a hidden gem and the world is incredible.

yeah I have no idea where to get some of the permanent upgrades either; I’ll just eventually look up a youtube vid on it. I also don’t have whatever it is that lets you break certain areas of the ground with ground-stomp…there’s some spots that appear to be breakable, I’ve noticed.

Usually I’m also using a melee weapon; it’s just that time I went for arrows as a primary… next run I may try arrows + kunai as secondary instead of using shield… an “all projectiles” setup, basically. This is another great thing about the game… there’s quite a few different “builds” you can set up for this character. There’s also the issue of whether to rush thru or not so you can try to reach those areas that have a timed door…normally I’m trying to at least get the first and/or 2nd one. Sheeeeit, I have so many Switch games (27 or 28) to get to at this point but I keep coming back to this one.
