The Nintendo Switch Thread! - Deadly Premonition 2: Blessing in Disguise 7/10 - Paper Mario: The Origami King 7/17

Thinking about buying the capcom bundle digitally. Seems like a collection I’d rather have downloaded

The only thing on the beat em up bundle I want is captain commando. I played the shit out of that game when I was younger. I love that game. The rest are whatever

I might let my PS+ lapse and get the Nintendo Online even though I’m not crazy about ANOTHER subscription service. Mario, Kunio-Kun, Ice Hockey and Metroid are tempting and so are those controllers, lol. I’m gonna wait on it but it sucks that they are charging for it. It was laughable when Sony did and it’s laughable here too…

I don’t get the complaints about the button mapping? Aren’t they the same as the NES controller back in the day?

Being the same NES controller is the problem. You think $60 is a good value for a pair of controllers that’s only good for playing NES games? A pair of regular Joy-Con cost just as much and it doesn’t have reduced functionality.

I’m talking about the lack of button mapping though. I’m reading complaints about it and it sounds like the NES games play with the same button scheme as they were originally. If that’s the case, what the issue?

I’ll get the controllers (most likely) because of the novelty.

Joy-cons (the pair) retail for about $10 or more.

EDIT: Looks like DMCV is adding online, so PSN is not getting lapsed.

I went to a Gamestop today and asked to pre-order the Smash Ult Switch bundle but they said it isn’t available in-store. The cashier didn’t know if it ever would be. I looked it up on my phone and it was available for pre-order online, but you have to pay in full and it ships only to addresses, no PO Boxes. I don’t want a Switch sitting on my porch while I’m at work. Anybody here know if it will ever be available for pre-order in-store eventually?

GameStop doesn’t charge for products online until the item ships. And no shipping to a PO Box is a standard thing.

As for it ever being available for preorder in store? Highly unlikely. You best bet would be to GameStop hop on release day to see if they got extras.

So the SEGA AGES line begins. Lightening Force (Thunder Force IV) and the first Sonic have been released in the U.S. $8 a pop but it’s done by M2 so if you are particular about emulation, these are the way to go.

Picked up both and the sound is on point (a BIG problem on Genesis emulation). Never played Lightening Force as it is a shmup that released before I had a Genesis. Pretty solid and really good looking. It is hard to see enemies and bullets though, since objects don’t have thick borders around them. Music is on another level though. It saves your score and uploads it to online leader boards. I was reading you can look at other people’s replays and it even shows their inputs using an icon of the Genesis controller.

Sonic is pure nostalgia, but fits like a glove. Really bringing back memories, especially Spring Yard music. Playing with Drop Dash and Spin Dash enabled but gonna turn them off for now, since I don’t NEED them, and the game is fine without. It has the arcade version of Sonic (which I never knew about) as well in their that removes the Labryinth Zone.

Going through my first playthroughs without the extras added since, I’ve never played LF and Sonic, much like SMB on NES just works.

sheeeeit, Springyard Zone is my favorite Sonic music of all time…or at least it’s up there in that “elite” status. It’s been getting regular play in my music collection ever since “Sonic the Hedgehog” was actually a new game. (*way back then I recorded it and other tracks to various cassettes)

I decided to go with Speed Brawl for now… Capcom Beatemup will be later… I haven’t seen a beatemup game quite like this before…you’re doing more damage as you get faster and gain momentum… I’m loving it already; though I wish there was more unlockable characters. You eventually have 6 characters to play, but I’d like a large cast of characters on something like this… like at least give me 12 or so just to start, with unlockable characters bumping that up to 20.

As a huge fan of beat 'em ups, Capcom Beat 'em Up Bundle is some of the best $20 I have ever spent. I forgot how fun Captain Commando is. And how gruesome some of the deaths are. I lost count of how many times Cap got cut in two. My ten year old self would have thought that was cool and terrifying at the same time. This game has some of the best characters in beat 'em up history. Cap’s whole design just screams “hero” and Baby Head/Baby Commando is a freaking toddler that pilots a mech. That is GOTY stuff there.

The artwork on Beat ‘em Up Bundle is lookin’ CLEAN. I mean that for the old and new stuff. It’s nice to see high quality versions of the old arcade flyers as well as a ton of art I haven’t seen.

I had no idea the SEGA AGES games were dropping today. M2 are masters when it comes to ports so I’ll be buying Sonic the Hedgehog for the millionth time soon. I did pick up Lightening Force. I have a copy on my Genesis but I’m glad more people will be able to enjoy this game. Some of the best audio and visuals on the system. The Switch is drowning in SHMUPs and I have no complaints.

Best thing about it is that you can even play them in Tate mode on the Switch screen. I’ve been dreaming of full screen Ikaruga for over 15 years, finding this out was the nerdiest version of happiness I ever felt.

I’m still hoping Battle Garrega gets released for Switch. I’ve been close to pulling the trigger for it on PS4, but I hoping the M2 Shot Trigger line will end up on the Switch. That and Dante gameplay are my biggest wants for TGS.

Astebreed would get me to double dip if it comes to Switch as well.

Yea it would be dope for the M2 Shot Trigger series to come to Switch. I’m not a huge Garegga fan, but I’ve almost scooped Dangun Feveron a few times now.

Ikaruga is on sale, for those that didn’t pick it up.

damn, I missed the sale on Metal Slug… one was on sale for 4.79 and I was thinking about it…but never got back since there’s so much other good stuff to play anyway.

Speed Brawl is the shit, man… I got the first unlockable character the other day; “Cassie”, who looks kinda like violent version of Tinkerbell with a large wooden paddle…instant top tier status from what I’ve seen…her speed far surpasses the 2 starting characters.
heh, the big one of the starting 2… I actually thought that was just a somewhat fruity fat dude at first, but apparently it’s a female character

There’s so much going on in Switch-land, man… there’s several games I own that I never finished, because this system’s lineup is that damn strong, at least in my opinion. I’m at about 27 or 28 games at this point…and there’s many others that I’m interested in but just haven’t bought yet.

*that Smash bundle is such lazy shit it made me laugh though… I’m still cracking up that they just put a couple of white lines on the joycons and called it a day. Really, bruh?

I understand thought process they were going though with the joy cons for the switch bundle. Its simplistic and it actually doesn’t look bad when its together but when its apart it looks lazy. They probably should have opted to put the smash symbol on the pro controllers and then do something else for the joycons.

Fired up SEGA AGES Lightening Force a while ago. I’ve seen some reviews for retro games stating that they wish you could turn off the slowdown that the original games had. Well, in SA Lightening Force, you can. In fact, when you start the game, the slowdown is off. And sweet merciful heavens, this game was kicking me in the junk with the slowdown off! I went in the options and turned the slowdown on as it was in the Genesis original and things were made slightly easier. I mean, I’m still butt cheeks at the game (I was when I first played it more than 10 years ago) but the slowdown does make things a bit easier.

Also, you can choose between the international and Japanese version of the game. Playing the Japanese version changes the title to Thunder Force IV. Nice that both versions of the game are included.

People are dumb lol. A lot or shmups new and old are designed with the slow down in mind. It’s there for a reason. Reminds me of the PS2 Ibara release where the dev was most certainly patting themselves on the back as they removed all the intentional slow down in the game making it much harder then intended (Which is saying something, Ibara is hard enough as is.)
