The Nintendo Switch Thread! - Deadly Premonition 2: Blessing in Disguise 7/10 - Paper Mario: The Origami King 7/17

Cause it has always been a handheld game? First time on console and it kinda looks like a PS2 game. Not super complaining but cant deny

Hope all y’all had a good Thanksgiving.

On the Pokemon subject, let us be real it doesn’t look great but why should it, the only experience Gamefreak has with HD game development has been mobile games, the Let’s Go games and Little Town Hero. None of which have been on this level of game size. Hell the year the Switch launched the president of either Pokemon Company or Gamefreak I forget which was talking they didn’t have plans for it and only after it’s monster first year did they announce plans at beginning development.

Honestly visuals are on the lowest rung of the issues with Sw&Sh. If the actual game was good it’d be overlooked. But it just makes the whole package feel even worse.

Gotta give a shout out to the homie, @MARTIAN for letting me know both Turok titles are only $7usd. I have Turok 1 but I’ve been waiting to get Seeds of Evil until it was on sale in some capacity.

I either didn’t notice it when I was compiling that list yesterday or it wasn’t there. Cause it’s a deep enough discount ($13 off of each title) that it’s definitely worth mentioning.

Now just give us the multiplayer mode of rage wars with net play please.

No problem!

I also see I avoided a Pokémon argument. Nice.

I think the current visuals sells the cartoon look of the series always had
I feel the mainline series don’t need to look like the Detective Pikachu movie.

The Pokemon graphics thing makes me feel like some of you wouldn’t even give God Hand a second look.

Don’t quite understand what that has to do with Pokémon graphics. One is a PS2 game, one is for the Switch and 13 years apart. Had they not said we cut 400 Pokémon to improve graphics/animations nobody would give a shit how the game looked.

Also amusing how peeps that rip on Call of Duty defend Pokémon.

Literally just got on him about being irrelevant, then forces a Call of Duty comparison in the same post. Huh.

Did you consider that the game might look worse than its current state had they actually thrown in another 400 Pokémon on the cart? I’m not saying it would or wouldn’t, but this is the kind of shit that everyone wants to sidestep so they can paint this game with vitriol. We see developers constantly making graphical compromises to get shit running on the Switch.

If you really want to ride with this Game Freak hate train, stick to the real reason. Do you hate the game because it’s not visually pleasing to you or do you hate Game Freak because of their supposed lying?

Also gotta completely disagree with Let’s Go being a better looking game. No way in hell. Other than certain portions in the Wild Area, the game looks better or if anything just as good.

Call of duty comparison was about how Pokemon is the same shit every year. Ones bad and the other is always above any criticism.

Also I listed multiple issues with Sw&SH.

Graphical issues, difficulty issues, garbage plot, same garbage animations, no end game content, terrible mechanics, boring monotone dialogue, etc

Everyone was fixated on the graphics portion and made no comment about the others. I also said:

Honestly visuals are on the lowest rung of the issues with Sw&Sh. If the actual game was good it’d be overlooked.

No hate on my part and zero vitriol. I give valid criticisms for a game that should be better. Where was I being toxic?

And lying is a big issue with game companies. They should’ve just said they’re cutting the Dex cause they’re cutting the dex. Not make bs statements about new models and animations when the shit is straight ripped from previous games.

Also I don’t where in my post I called his statement irrelevant. Legit said I don’t understand it. I still play plenty of PS2 or old Nintendo games.

It’s an ugly as fuck PS2 game, even for a PS2 game. Looks like a PSX game and yet it’s fucking amazballs. I’m not saying graphics don’t matter but there is a point where they kinda dont. Style can take you a lot farther.

I also find the difficulty complaint assanine because you can sleep walk through every Pokemon due to its target demo so expecting a challenge from the base experience is fucking retarded in my opinion.

I didn’t say you were being toxic. I said vitriolic. Which seems accurate to me since it seems like most of your gripes with the game are subjective as hell.

  1. Personally I don’t think the sprites are ripped. And yeah, I looked at the actual polygonal skeletons that were data mined before release. Some look very similar, which means it’s possible so I’ll give you that. But the game does have a fuck ton of new models, for both new and older Pokémon. New move animations, bigger more sprawling locations, ect. The fact that you sidestep these things seems disingenuous to me, or at the very least you’re not willing to approach this with more objectivity.

  2. Pokémon was never hard. Ever. Not even once. It just took longer to do dumb grindy RPG bullshit in previous games. This is not and never will be a real complaint to me.

  3. If you genuinely wanna sit there and pretend that every single Pokémon game between Gen 1 and now has been “the same exact shit every year”, that bit needs no further explanation as to why it’s not true. People that say Call of Duty is the exact same shit EVERY game are lying to themselves too so I don’t wanna hear it.

  4. Plot in Pokémon is like plot in porn. Who fucking cares. And if you do care, maybe consider where to draw the line between your personal gripes with a game and things that are actually objectively detrimental to the game’s sense of fun. Please don’t sit here and tell me you go into a John Wick movie expecting some kind of Shakespearean storytelling, and certainly don’t try to tell me any Pokémon game has any sort of compelling narrative. MAYBE the Black and White series, that’s about it. Still pretty juvenile storytelling even in that.

  5. No end game content? Lol, yeah, I think we’re done here. I can’t waste anymore time approaching this objectively by myself.

Shouldn’t have even indulged this. We all agree the lack of a full Pokedex sucks. We all agree it’s not the prettiest game ever. I think people just want to get wrapped up in the “politics” surrounding the game. Which is fine. I’ll pass tho.

But why constantly make the games even easier than they were previously? You’d think they’d atleast raise gym levels if they shove team exp share down your throat. :joy:

I dunno. I don’t play them, I don’t care. They aren’t for me. They are for small children and people who want to dog fight without the legal and moral implications of dog fighting. Its literally an rpg for children with a multiplayer component for those looking for more then the base game offers and it’s always been that way. Always will be that way. Pokemon isn’t meant to be tough. No one plays the story for challange. That’s what multi is for.

Back to that it’s for children nonsense. If you don’t care or play them why comment at all?

I think most people are pissed about the wasted potential and promise Sword and Shield had than the actual game itself.

All of sword and shield feels like it’s something they just scraped together and shoved out the door. Which given how TPC and Gamefreak felt about the switch (see: they hated it and thought it’d bomb just like the Wii U) I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the case.

Outside of a few instances Pokemon has been on a huge down swing since DPP imo. There have been some genuinely great stuff sprinkled throughout each generation though.

BW has amazing world building and narrative. N is one of the most beloved characters in Pokémon due to how well he’s written.

XY was awesome with as much as they added in it was a very much “back to basics” approach while stream lining everything. Outside of lack of really memorable characters I really liked XY. I could have done w/o the Mega’s. But I didn’t hate them. I just felt they served no purpose. They kept building up Mega’s as the next big step in Pokémon. Especially since they expanded on the gimmick in ORUS. However, then more or less cut it off at the knees with Su/Mo with Z-Moves. Which was just silly.

Su/Mo basically suffocated you with how linear it was which killed the entire game for me. It’s the one core generational game I’ve never finished I hated it so much.

SW/SH just seems like all the issues I had with Su/Mo but exasperated plus added in a bunch of stuff I’ve never liked in games like timed events or forced multi-player aspects.

I’m not mad people are enjoying it. That’s silly. But the direction Pokémon went with Su/Mo and continues to go with Sw/Sh. I’m not going to support that.

Thankfully since Pokemon is the biggest IP on the planet there are tons of other ways to support it. Spin off titles, mangas, Card games, and so forth.

Yea man why comment on a conversation based
Forum about videogames, my main hobby on a website I visit every single day.

I comment because I don’t have tunnel vision and only have opinions about things that directly effect me. My view is wider. A conversation about Pokemon having bad graphics isn’t really a conversation about just Pokemon. Its about graphical merit in general. Just because I don’t care about Pokemon doesn’t mean I don’t have an opinion about a conversation you have been beating to death for something like 3 weeks now.
