I’m not really excited about the 3DS, actually. Considering the price (as much as an original launch date Wii?), the supposed 3-5 hours of battery life, and the launch line up, it seems smarter to wait until the next inevitable revision comes out.
The 3DS costs almost as much as a PS3?
LMMFAO.
Good luck with that, Nintendo.
Especially since you’re cracking down on the “home brew”.
I swear, I thought Nintendo was the last bastion of sense within the industry - so much for that.
As I see it.
The price does make sense, financially at least.
With the wii they were constantly selling out for over a year, chances are if it was priced higher(say 300$) it would have sold just as well.
Anyways, placed a preorder, but chances are I’m gonna cancel it. Part of me wants to get it so I can sell it with profit should demand be high.
I honestly expected the 3DS to be 299.99, so it surprised me.
Probably put a pre-order down soon. I want one for RE and all the other cool games, though if the price sky rockets enough on this I wouldn’t mind selling it on Ebay and waiting. Either way, win/win in my book.
Really?
I am of the belief that it’s going to go the way of the PS3, in that regard - lots of people buying it with the intent to gouge, but nowhere near the market to allow them such profit.
And the economy was GOOD, comparatively, back then.
I just don’t see it taking off.
99.999999% of people aren’t getting any richer, and they won’t take such a hit for a handheld.
As I see it.
I don’t see it working in March, more than likely around the holidays. No one cared about the PS3 on launch because of the price tag and it wasn’t being geared towards kids. Nintendo products are always hot business around the holidays more or less, it’s insane at times.
Like I said if it happens and the price goes up to like $500 or more I’d sell it, but more or less I want the thing for myself to play Resident Evil in bed.
It’s around the same price as consoles now, consoles that were $300/$400+ five years ago. You can’t expect Nintendo to release a brand new system while keeping a competitive price with such old hardware that’s seen countless price drops and manufacturing refinements.
Not to mention the PSP was $250 and has done pretty well, being the only non-Nintendo handheld to survive outside of Japan in quite a while. Now, this is a Nintendo handheld, successor to the wildly popular DS, with stellar third-party support to boot.
$250 won’t bring the 3DS down. It might not boast the adoption rate of Ninty’s past handhelds, but if it’s off to a slow start then it’ll certainly boom once the price drops/redesigns start flowing. I imagine it’ll fare even better once the PSP2 is announced, as I cannot see that being $250 or less.
The 3DS *will *print money.
Oh, I hear what you are saying.
I just think the economy is too far in the tanker for them to pull this shit off.
I play RE4 in bed all the time - it ain’t that hard.
The only reason that the PSP did even remotely well outside of its native Sonyland… err, Japan, is that it was highly hackable, and once a person had one, they had the entire game library for free.
Nintendo ain’t playin’ that with the 3DS. Look at the safeguards and requisite online updates they are already talking about. Hackers are gonna brick their shit this time around, and thus I don’t see lay people investing $250 into such a gamble.
As I see it.
Yeah with the current economy, I don’t think Nintendo’s usual magic will work so well, so I understand what you are talking about.
I tried playing RE4 in bed, but it’s to far from my TV (Television is only a 32" Plasma) so I’d be walking and hit a fucking bear trap I didn’t see and hear some Spanish, then would take an Axe in the back. So I just kinda sit in a chair a few feet from my TV for the most part. Annoying and uncomfortable.
Also yeah, the only reason any of my friends have a PSP is to play old SNES titles on it.
You should see how my little brother rolls - he has his LCD T.V. on a cart that he just pulls up to the head of his bed, and goes from there.
As I see it.
That kid is ballin’, much props for inventive laziness.
$250 3DS launching March 27 - News at GameSpot
-$250 was about what I expected.
-Friend codes are back, but Nintendo has automated the whole process now.
-"I want to talk about Virtual Boy 2, I mean, Nintendo 3DS. -Yoshinori Ono
-Software lineup available on or soon after launch day: Nintendogs and Cats, Steel Diver, Pro Evo, Street Fighter IV, Super Monkey Ball 3D, Resident Evil Revelations, Combat of Giants, Dead or Alive, Rabbids 3D, Ghost Recon: Shadow Wards, Samurai Warriors, Driver, Lego Star Wars III, Paper Mario, Starfox 64, Ocarina of Time, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries, Splinter Cell 3D, Asphalt 3D, The Sims 3D, Ridge Racer 3D, Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater, Animal Crossing, Pilot Wings, Kid Icarus.
-[LONDON] British retailers are now listing the 3DS for a £229 ($366) price point. :looney:
Glad about the friend codes and that they are dropping the points for real money. Now I just want to now if the 3DS will be able to trade with the DS.
Out of everything…I’m mostly surprised about the fact that Nintendo actually is learning. I was half expecting them to be hard headed and make the friend codes individual to each game again but they didn’t. Good job Ninty.
Metroid showing up in DOA was a bit surprising since I wasn’t even expecting them to let Team Ninja get their hands completely on her. oh boy…People were upset about Samus being oversexuallized before? I can literally hear the future rage when they find out the different swimsuits and poses you can put her in now (no that hasn’t really been confirmed).
Kid Icarus sounds like it’s going to cramp people’s hands. And I have yet to do my annual OoT run…so the 3D version will easily suffice this year.

Hey I’m trying to pick up an AceKard or the like for my son’s DSi. Anyone have any reliable places to buy one? Thanks!
I preordered a 3DS at gamestop for $50 and i’m also going to preorder one on amazon next week. if the demand is extremely high and all 3DS units are sold out, I am going to sell the extra one for TRIPLE the price if someone is eager enough to buy it from me at that price point- capitalism at its best!!!
I’m also liking the ability to watch 3D titles on the system. I’m in love w/ nintendo again
Not buying one unless a major title I’m interested in is released, or a redesign (DS to DS lite).
The nintendo DS lite and DSi had good battery life, 3 hours max with 3D fully on is outrages. $250 for a system too is a bit high, I’d pay $200…
I’ll just wait for a redesign probably. They always lower the price and toss in a few new bells and whistles.
knowing nintendo, they always have a redesign in the works… it will look way sexier than the original, probably a 40% material reduction.
i’m going to read up on the psp2 and see what that has to offer. if all it has to offer are ps3 graphics, then i’m inclined to not even bother with it.
so im thinking about picking up a new DS game. the ones im looking at are ghost trick, and 999. what do you guys think. i just read a review for 999 and it seems awesome.
Other than those…Hotel Dusk and Last Window (LW is the sequel to Hotel Dusk)
