I hope matte finishes catch on. Glossy only looks good when you just bought something.
The info was posted earlier, but I figure I’ll start doing this every week like I do in the Wii thread, posting the new releases for DSiWare here every Monday.
DSiWare Update (4/6)
Nintendo DSi Browser
Bird & Beans (Pyoro)
Master of Illusion Express: Funny Face
Art Style: AQUIA
WarioWare: Snapped!
Brain Age Express: Math
So are they going to use this new system as an excuse to charge more for games?
Without knowing the answer myself… yes. Yes they will. Guaranteed.
Gardening Mama just got released…hype?
Sorta. I played and enjoyed both Cooking Mama titles on the DS, so I may look into this soon.
They won’t raise prices on regular DS games. Probably not until they come out with the DSi-exclusive or enhanced games. But I doubt they will anyway, I think the price is gonna be the same. When the GBC enhanced games came out, they were the same price as GB games.
Made it to the last boss on Hatsworth, and holy heck this really is insanely hard.
I was wondering though: Why do silver hearts cost more in the shop than red hearts? Don’t you do the same damage as old or young Henry? When you refill your first bar of meter as old Henry, you get ALL your red hearts refilled, but only 2 of your silver hearts. Seems to me like they should cost the same, or possibly red hearts cost more, yes?
i told you final boss was a bitch
Bird and beans (original) is addicting…not quite blown away with the dsi overall though.
Finally got my DSi through Amazon. I like it, but not as much as I was expecting yet. One thing I did notice is how yellow the LCD looks. I know that later DS Lites had the problem of having a yellow tint to the LCD (when Nintendo apparently changed their LCD Manufacturer), but it seems more noticeable here. Its not a deal breaker, but it is a con (as opposed to a pro. Not a rip-off), to me.
The camera is something to play with when you don’t feel like playing a game. That and the sound recorder are just extras that you’ll toy around with from time to time.
I do like the matte feel and the build quality of the unit though. The bigger screens are nicer, but not a drastic change from the Lite. I heard that some people are having ghosting issues, I can’t confirm but I’ll try different games on it sometime this week. I only tried Rhythm Heaven and Brain Age Express: Math.
So far, I’ve had a lot of fun with Brain Age Express: Math. There are a couple new minigames, and a new Themes mode, which is fun. Themes mode is like that feature in the original where it would have you draw something, then later it would ask someone else to draw something than show them your drawing in comparison. Except in this new one, it’ll use the camera and ask you to act out something while it takes a pic, then you can compare with other people, too. Good times.
I’m holding off on a DSi until the new Professor Layton is released out here. Unless I decide I can’t resist that really cool Kingdom Hearts one.
- Good. So far so good.
Aesthics are nothing to mess with this title. Graphically, Konami did a great job with the 2D/3D mixture in* Suikoden Tierkries*. Unlike other games these days(Street Fighter IV), the anime cutscenes are just as great as the game itself. I would have used the cell-shaded approach, to match the accompanying anime, but still. No sense crying over the new product.
The Gameplay, on Suikoden T., is good, too. The battle system is similar to the old ones from what I’ve seen in Youtube. You won’t get the other 2 battle systems, which would have looked cool and worked out on the DS. It’s nice to use this sort of gameplay on something that doesn’t say FF. I’m disappointed in the amount of people in the party(I’m more of a Power Rangers kind-of-guy, with 5-6), but the support character makes up for it when it comes to pulling off co-op moves. The game is user-friendly, allowing players to sell goods and found items. For instance, I made about a good 4000 in the first 3 hours of the game based on trade goods alone.
The story, in Suikoden T. so far, reminds me of another title, but I won’t get into exactly whom. The dialogue sounds more modern than not and , as the reviews have pointed out, the main character is not the most interesting person to hear. Outside of that, the voice overs are also good. You can skip scenes, though.
Still, I’m probably half way through it(minus the 108 stars that I’ll still have to find) but I’ll have fun with this and GTA for now. I’m enjoying ST and couldn’t put it down for a good 3 hours more.
So I got a DSi on sunday, and after fooling around with it I gotta say there’s really no rush to get it. Not to say that it’s bad or a waste of money, but it’s main selling points, the DSiware and improved hardware, aren’t going to be taken advantage of for awhile.
The subtle changes to the form factor are nice though. Definitely like the return to clicky style buttons ala the DS Phat. The shoulder buttons easily the best of the three (minor as hell, I know, but the ones on the Lite annoyed the hell out of me). The speakers are actually worthwhile this time, but I haven’t gotten a chance to use the music player yet. It’s also a little thinner, which is also minor but nice if you’re carrying it in your pocket.
The difference in the screen size and picture quality is so negliable it’s barely a factor. I’m pretty sure current games don’t fill the entire screen and leave a tiny black border around both the top and bottom screens so there’s no scaling issues.
@Chairhome: I haven’t noticed any difference in the tint of the LCDs but I didn’t get a Lite till the Silver one came out, so I’m guessing it was probably one of the later ones. Haven’t noticed any ghosting either. So far I’ve used Hatsworth, Chinatown Wars, DQ4, and Fire Emblem. Sounds like an isolated incident.
@Jack: Sounds good. How’s the difficulty though, sounds like it should be a cakewalk to get equipment with how easy it is to make money.
R.I.P. GBA slot, you’ll definitely be missed, but dammit Aquia is fun.
You’re right on about no rush to get it, but I don’t regret the purchase. I did hear that some LCDs have that yellow tint to it and some don’t, but it isn’t too noticeable in-game, so I don’t think I’m going to worry about it that much.
There is no border around screens as far as I know, all reports I’ve read say that the games are scaled out. I’ve played some Rhythm Heaven on it and have seen no black border. However, since the increase in size is negligible, it doesn’t really affect the look of the games.
I’m thinking about trying Aquia. I like BAE, but would like something that plays more like a game, too, haha. Might pick up Aquia and Bird & Beans… I hear mixed reviews on WarioWare and will probably pass.
Grabbing one off a guy off craigs list for $90.
Don’t get scammed.
A Lite for $90 isn’t really a deal considering they are $130 new. Might as well drop an extra $40 for a new one.
Difficulty is hard to call. I haven’t got a Game Over yet, and I had about 3-4 stand still fights(where there are only 3 turns in the battle and you can’t beat them at all because your characters can’t take off decent hits). I’m not sure if it is because I grinded my characters for a good while during the beginning or it’s the game’s difficulty itself. I just made 30k or so off of cashing some mission results in, so money isn’t much of a problem. The monsters don’t put up that much of a fight yet.
**Remember to cash those results in. *
*Thestory is getting intriguing, though.
This game is not that difficult and you’re kind of forced to grind cause of the random encounter rate. I am pretty sure I’m about 80-90% through, so I guess I have a good grasp of the difficulty (No game overs yet either). The only problem would be recruiting characters that join at level 10-14 while your in the late 30’s and forced to battle with them in your party.
And as you mentioned earlier, it is very easy to make money. Just find out what trade goods sell for a low price in one region and then sell that in a region that pays a lot for the goods (I used cotton thread as my main good).
I still like the game, can’t compare it to other Suikoden’s but it is very addicting. Getting 108 party members (you cannot use all 108) is still appealing.
