The Nintendo DS thread v.2

So I just got a DS. I’m hella late on the train. I bought FFTA2 to play on my boyfriend’s DS and got addicted (FFT fanboy, I know the story sucks shut up) so I bought my own. Now I’m trying to figure out what I can do with this thing. I’m getting bangai-o soon, I wanna try out some trauma center (should I just get the second one?), but past that I’m out of ideas. I want kirby’s canvas curse because I enjoy the gimmicky/goofy touch screen games. I wanna pick up metal slug also.

Can’t you emulate with some chip? What does that entail?

Anyway any recommendations on what to get, games or otherwise, would be cool. Not trying to get a whole bunch of RPGs though.

The Phoenix Wright series.
And the 3 Castlevanias.

Yeah, it’s great. I think it’s one of the hardest in the series. Can any of you guys post the easy experience trick here?

Also, is there a recommended way to force glyph drops? I’ve been beasting away at flame demons and they haven’t given me their fire glyph, which I need to get the Cubus glyph and such. Any tips would be great.

Contra 4, Geometry Wars, Kirby Super Star Ultra, and Tetris DS. Maybe Nanostray 2 and Space Invaders Extreme.

Man, the DS has a lot of RPGs. I got a whole list for that.

Brain Age is a must get, of course.

MS 7 is also good so far. It has no multiplayer and the difficulty is only for Metal Slug vets. You’d think SNK-Playmore would get it by now but nooooooooooooooooooooooo. The mission mode is quite fun and challenging. Hard to say if it is the best Metal Slug game ever. Better than that Metal Slug 3D and probably better than Metal Slug X(meaning Metal Slug II). I felt as if this DS iteration is better than MS 4 so far. I wasn’t too fond of the turn SNK-P took on the aliens-rebel team ups. Still, if you liked SNK-P’s work on MS, you’ll like this game. I haven’t done Clark’s moves yet. I wanna see his backbreaker done on one of these fools. Yes, the Ikari Warriors are in this game, re-living their 'pre-KoF days. EDIT: Nevermind. Clark’s tossing niggas like it’s that Ludacris video.

No Rom talk. There are mods, but you cannot talk about them here. Whatever you hear, make sure you get one that doesn’t involve any system mods. Most of them do not involve modding to the system itself.

Depends on what you’re into. For a MS type of game, play Contra 4. Similar to Rambo 4th, Contra’s very badass in its’ own right, retaining the original style from the games before it. Planet Puzzle League is my best recommendation for something Puzzle like. It’s Tetris Attack, with an online mode. Tetris DS is a good one, too. Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for those cute protagonist fixes you may have. I saw a guy play this on the bus one day, and I felt as if I had to play this. I beat it too. It’s awesome. I played the multiplayer, too. For a Devil May Cry fix, I recommend Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword. Space Invaders Extreme also.

Shameful me. I haven’t played Super Star Ultra yet.

Is Metal Slug 7 like Contra 4 where there’s enemies attacking and action takes place on both screens?

Order of Ecclesia’s early stages are harder than the early ones in PoR, but its bosses are much easier, and the Dracula and Death fights (beat him on the first try) are an absolute joke.

Learning how to effectively combo glyphs is a big thing in this game. If you do, everything becomes vastly simpler.

With that said, the two bonus areas in Order of Ecclesia are very hard, moreso than the Nest of Evil. Overall great game.

Focus-

I’ve heard that the Bleach DS fighting game, Blade of Fate or whatever, is supposed to be pretty good. Is it worth shelling out fifteen bucks?

Edit-

What part of the game are you on? In terms of weaponry, use sickles or lances, they’re the only two worth bothering with. Umbra and Luminatio are pretty good, but Nitesco (which you get from the Nova Skeleton) along with a Melio Falcis (sickle) is top tier. It just cuts down virtually every enemy like nothing when comboed together.

As for drop rates, you can absorb glyphs when the enemy is still alive, (I didn’t even learn this until after beating the game!) but there’s also a specific time when killing them will leave the glyph there.

Usually, that means killing them right before the glyph appears.

Thanks for the help! I’m almost at Drac’s castle, any tips?

no = [

Ah, so you have Vol Umbra or Vol Illuminato, then? You’ll find the immensely useful Nitesco somewhere there. Also, a double lance combo is really good against some of the enemies.

Also, be sure to get Albus’s and/or the other boss’s glyphs right before the castle (don’t want to spoil it) when you fight them. Very useful.

Finally, there’s an awesome glyph from the cat ladies near the beginning of the castle. I won’t spoil what it is, but it’s arguably the coolest in the entire game.

Ah yeah, phoenix wright. If the castlevanias aren’t as painfully easy as SotN, sounds good.

Sick, there’s a Contra 4 out?

Yeah I won brain age 2 in a fundraising tourney and gave it to my boyfriend as a gift… He’s a casual gamer without much time for involving games so he digs it. I play it too every once in a while. It took me forever to get a brain age lower than his.

Right right. Always forget srk is like that. I wasn’t asking for specifics per se, I was just wonder what you have to do, like modding your system or something simpler, but you’ve quelled my curiousity. Should I delete that part of the post? I didn’t mean to ask! >_>

Love puzzle games. How does online DS play work? It’s not like the same as playing multiplayer with another DS wi-fi style, right? I can just straight up play random people from the comfort of my own room? :bgrin:

Thanks for the responses guys. As for the guy wondering about the bleach fighting game, for $15 I’d say it’s not bad. I have fun fucking around on it on my friend’s DS. It’s broken as fuck though.

Yeah, it’s pretty good. In terms of difficulty, it’s easy for a Contra game, and not as great as Contra 3, but there’s a cool, unlockable “Challenge Mode” that will keep you playing long after you’ve beaten Arcade Mode.

Thanks man; not a big fan of playing fighting games on anything besides a stick, but I’ll check it out.

How good is Kirby Super Star Ultra?

I’m addicted to FF Tactics.

Can’t stop playing it at home, work, during my break, etc.

Am I the only one here playing Phantasy Star Zero? Everything being in japanese isn’t that bad. Hell, the amazing wifi makes up for it.

So is anyone playing Spiderman: Web of Shadows? I have to say, I’m pretty impressed. It’s like they took Devil May Cry 1’s combo/fighting system and dumped it onto the DS. . .it’s pretty damn amazing. I’m liking Spiderman a lot more than the other action-adventure games out there, like Ninja Gaiden.

The mash-up DMC/metroidvania style is pretty impressive. It’s a little repetitive and the boss fights are boring, but it’s probably the best superhero game in a good while. Hell, it’s probably better than the console versions.

Apparently Gauntlet DS is coming out February 1st. I really can’t wait considering the fact that I played the shit out of everything already out. ):

What are some good shumps for the NDS? Space Invaders Extreme is fun but I want MOAR.
Also if you find Contra 4 easy, then I most definately suck major donkey balls in playing video games.

wat

but yeah, contra 4 >>>>

I had a little trouble with the Crab Boss, but that’s it. Just staying on the left helps, then learn when a few times you need to move out of the way. I read a FAQ on it after I had most of it down, but the person’s advice was so off I just ended up ignoring it. It said don’t use Macir, use the Axes… WTF ever. Definitely use double Macir and pound the crap outta that crab.

Make sure you pay attention to enemies weaknesses (by pressing Select, I think, you can swap between map and monster detail in the top screen).

I bought my wife Kirby Super Star Ultra, and we are both enjoying that. It has a lot beat em up/contra style variety in the weapons/powers, which i really like. My wife loves the mini games.

It’s actually my wife’s DS. I’m gonna have to get one of my own. I had a PSP but sold it and all the games to get money for my arcade stick. Maybe for my birthday I’ll ask for a DS.
