Good luck with the Albus medal. I’m currently trying on lvl1 cap hard mode… two days of pure frustration.
Here’s something that might make your first encounter with him much easier:
Albus
[details=Spoiler]The giant ball attack that does massive damage and curses you to add insult to injury can be absorbed while Albus is casting it.
On hard mode, Acerbatus was doing 128 damage(x+y), before I was using Vol Luminatio for 40 damage per shot. His glyph also fires much faster, it’s not homing, but thats not even necessary for this fight. Faster = Safer. Considering he has 4000 hp, and he can drop you in no time with his special shots… take the help if you find your damage lacking. When I was a kid, I learned for boss fights: The quicker you take them down, the less chance you have to make errors. When you’re going for that medallion, you need top dps.
[edit]It’s too bad I failed to absorb this on my first medallion win. When I decided to use Death ring, my Vol Luminatio’s were hitting for 114 damage per shot.
Hard mode; get that medallion tactics.
Equipment: INT+ gear (Traveler’s hat, Corset Dress, Moonwalker’s, Sun/Moon ring, Death ring)
Glyphs: Vol Luminatio, Vol Luminatio, Sapiens Fio(INT+ buff)
Tactics:
Fight starts. He laughs like a lunatic(you gotta play this with japanese audio).
I bait his shots by single jumping in front of him, I’ve found this is generally the best solution to beating his high/low normal shots. Beating these shots are the most vital part of getting the medallion IMO because they are not telegraphed at all and seem to come out at his whim. It’s important to single jump because if you commit to a second jump you might find yourself jumping into an optical shot(black+white spiral shot). Single jumping also baits him into using his arcing flame kick.
This single jump is good. It beats his normal shots, so the only thing you have to watch out for is his three special shots: 1. A fire shot that comes out directly in front of him and arcs with 2 more fireballs 45 degrees above and below the middle fireball. 2. A lightning(?) shot that comes out and hits like an untelegraphed Acerbatus shot. 3. An ice shot that starts up slow, and can be shot from high or low, this is another shot that will punish you for comitting to a second jump. But remember, it starts up slow, so you’ll be landing from your single jump before this thing comes out so it’s fairly easy to jump again(or crouch if its high) by the time its a projectile. Shots 1 and 2 have poor range, so you can beat them simply by using Glyph attacks with a longer range. Oh, and theres the freezing move he does that all the villager’s get stuck in. Obviously they never saw it coming, but it’s fairly easy to see.
To beat his Optical shot, once you see it starting up, RUN(don’t jump!) away from Albus. Just keep running until it comes out, and once it’s about to hit you, Moonwalk through that shit like Thriller. If you’re too close to him, and you backdash in his face, he’ll pop you with a special shot. If you do backdash right next to him, just try dashing through him again… sometimes you’ll catch him shooting in the opposite direction, open to attacks… and sometimes you’ll get popped in the face with a bullet.
This is the strategy I’ve created after two days of getting my level 1 ass whipped. I finally beat him (through tweaking my way to deal with Optical Shot) and got my hard mode medallion, whoop. What really sucks is I forgot to absorb Acerbatus in the winning match. Lucky for me I forgot a Villager. Also, the death ring is a major necessity for hunting medallions. If you’re going to fail your mission in one hit, may as well die for it.
