The Next Fist of the North Star/Hokuto no Ken thread

Fuck yeah. Shit is hard. I love hitting that shit.

Raoh’s Sai links are two frame links, IIRC. Still, missing one pretty much means you’ve probably lost the round (at the highest level of play of course).

The sai link is two frames, yeah. I made a strategy thread on Raoh and Juda way back, but I can’t even find it now.

found some crazy combo clips on nico, imo must see stuff.

watching now. oh man. rei is so ridiculous. ha ha

damn, that last ken combo was straight pain.

ATG, that was one wicked upload. Those Juda combos were so damn good. Seems that the Juda dribble combo is pretty loose into how exactly you get into it. I just gotta work on my execution.

I pray every night that somebody at microsoft is capable of getting this put on xbla or on disc I gotta play this game again . Until then I gotta buy a ps2 copy shrugs

thouther playing hackey sack with raoh was funny. left knee, right knee. good fancy shit. games too broken! i love it

You’ll have more luck trying to buy the thing than your first option. My suggestion is get the slimline ps2, get the fliptop/swapmagic combo and you are good to go.

Hey there, fellas. Now, I won’t waste much of your time, considering that you, as Hokuto no Ken players, are only the manliest of men, and as such must be quite short on time. However, I would dearly like to know if anything’s developed that makes Mamiya any less useless in this game than I was originally led to believe.

mamiya has a quite reliable bounce combo that needs at least 1 super and 1-2 boost stocks. i would give you a link, but i haven’t uploaded anything for her. there are almost daily TRF updates on nicovideo though for HNK, which frequently feature mamiya.
also, last year when HNK was played again @ SBO, there was a new matchup diagram in the arcadia magazine, and the mamiya player actually thought that kenshiro and raoh are good matchups for her, which surprised me.

Actually it’s more than quite reliable, it’s like you get hit by her as she have one super in stock, 95% of the time you’re dead.

This game looks horribly broken…but in a fun way!I’m gonna have to pick this shit up.

I am also watching the previously posted combo videos. Currently watching the Raoh one and all I’m getting out of it is that Raoh is the Grandmaster of Dickpunching. Seriously.

I’m gonna have to get someone for casuals for this, it’s definitely going to be fun like Fate Unlimited Codes was broken but fun.

I Love the classic anime series this game is based on, and the game is a dream come true for HNK/Fighter fans. One of the few games that remains consistently fun on single-player.

However watching even mildly competitive gameplay vids is like sheer vomit. All that broken shit exploited to its fullest… gahh.

Ironically it manages to stay true to the show in a way. In the anime these fighters were so skilled, a mere 2-3 good hits or less, is all it takes to kill someone. In the game, all a good player needs is 1 window of opportunity, and its Infinite combo madness from there on until the other player is dead. Sad.

Edit: Also last i checked Toki was Top-tier in the game, and in the show Toki was the strongest and would have been successor to Hokuto ShinKen had he not gotten his injury. Even had knowledge of Souther’s secret when no one else did.

Admittedly I just picked this game up for the Hokuto no Ken name ^^; I’m not sure if you got the news, True Grave, but Koei is currently developing a Dynasty Warriors spin-off of Hokuto no Ken, which motivates me to learn more about the series. I’m a big Dynasty Warriors whore =P

Unfortunately the manga isn’t in English and I don’t have the time or resources to acquire and watch the anime series… So I remembered this game and decided to give it a shot. It’s pretty decent so far, but I’ve got a long way to go before I can do this crazy shit.

The manga is in english, look around a bit.

It is…?You sure?I checked at a certain manga website that tracks fan translations and it said only up to volume 4 or so was translated…?Unless it was licensed and released in America?

Manga? Eh i’ve always been an anime guy. Only manga i’ve ever read was the one for M.D.Geist, an old, underrated fav.

Highly doubt this would be one of those cases where the manga is better. The original 80’s HNK anime is godlike.

well HNK manga >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> HNK anime
better draws, the story makes more sense, dunno, after reading the manga i cant stand the anime now

I just looked more into it, it appears that up to volume 9 of the original series and about 4 volumes of a prequel series were released in America in the late 90s, early 2000s, but the company who was releasing them went out of business and so that’s the most we got. Unfortunately my knowledge of Japanese extends into only a few katakana characters, so I can’t go directly to the source XD

TBH, I’ve almost always preferred manga over anime. The story ends up being more complete with less filler, especially since the shows tend to stop at a certain point in the manga, or deviate completely from the manga. With the anime, though, you do get cooler action sequences and more detailed/colored art, so I guess it’s an alright trade-off.

…Oh yea, if you like Fist of the North Star…There is a comic based on Dynasty Warriors/Romance of the Three Kingdoms at san.pengguo.com . It’s really hilarious, especially if you’re into RoTK, but one of the in-jokes of the comic is that the strategist of Shu, Zhuge Liang, is schooled in the lost art of the Fist of the North Ox.

It’s great coz one minute he’s the timid but wise strategist from history, then the next minute he’s drawn all ultra-realistic and wicked buff with the North Ox star thing burned into his chest and he’s beating the shit out of his man-servant. He comes in during the middle of the comic if you want to cut right to the chase…

http://san.pengguo.com/index.php?mode=view&view=140 First one where he appears with the North Ox gimmick, he appears earlier than this but not with the Ox
