The newest Castlevania game... is a FIGHTING game!

I’m surprised so many people play this

Well, I don’t know if anyone is. I just started since, as I pointed out, you can play it on the PC.

First impression was pretty meh, but after playing the tutorials and then story mode, I think it’s surprisingly much fun. Pulling of a good combo is satisfying. The camera is pretty annoying though.
If they ever do a sequel, I think it could be real good.

So… We all love tier lists, no matter how hardcore or not a game is… What did the tier list seem like to all you who populated this thread before it died?

This game came out for PC?
And they left out the netplay? WTF?

On the Wii version there certainly is wifi :.

I was trying to hint that it’s emulated perfectly at good fps

I’m gonna recommend it to my little brother to buy… When it’s fucking released here! In the nordic region, Nintendo games are handled by Bergsala instead of NOE and it sucks a lot at times. We never got GG: Accent Core at all, my brother had to import. I’m not sure this game is going to come out here either, I can only see one shop listing it as incoming sometime this month.

lawl, I see XD.

The emus don’t support any Wifi? I’m betting it’s prolly a conflict with Nintendo’s servers. All the same, if you can ever get online somehow post in this thread. I’d be glad to go a round or two with you.

To answer the tier inquiry, I can only give vague assumptions. All I know is that Shanoa, Aeon, Grant and Alucard are definitely up there, while Simon and Eric are towards the bottom.

Aeon and Grant in particular have difficult to dodge and ridiculously strong special attacks that AREN’T supers, but still take meter. Aeon’s is a freaking Proton Cannon.

WOW, you can combo into hypers now? And I thought this game was broken out of the box…

Could someone tell me what move Golem is using after the A+B? Is that just a jump cancel?

Character designs are too screwed to ever make this game worth playing for me. I actually liked the Simon from Castlevania Chronicles, but after mixing him with Light Yagami, the resemblance to anything Belmont-related is completely shot. If they had to go with a metro Simon Belmont, even the one from Lament of Innocence would have been better. And that’s just the main character, the more obscure the character, the less they look anything like their original design (i.e. the dude from Castlevania Bloodlines) which pretty much defeats the purpose.

Even Alucard, who’s about the most recognizable character in the modern Castlevania universe, is just barely recognizable in Judgement and could easily be confused with one of 2-3 other recent long gray-haired effeminate CV protagonists.

I thought CV Judgment was rather average at best. The Obata redesigns are either look ok (Trevor, Sypha) or really freakin’ weird (Grant, Maria). It seems to have a rather simplistic gameplay style, but nothing too deep. The graphics needed more work too.

I’m all for a more improved sequel. Just keep Obata away from designing the characters and amp up the gameplay and stage related events (Powerstone, anyone?)

just watching that video now I didn’t even know that shit my self. Was that a full life combo Aeon just did? Welcome to the time warp indeed!

sigh Has there really been a good Castlevania since Symphony of the Night?
It’s the only one I still replay occasionally at least…it has the whole shebang. Gorgeous graphics, great music, great characters, awful dubbing, and RPG mechanics.

Dawn of Sorrow and Order of Ecclesia on the DS. The 1st and 3rd titles in the DS trilogy respectively.

I thought the GBA games were good as well. Circle of the Moon and so on.

me too, untill now i enjoyed all the gba games pretty much like C:SON

But they are all on systems I don’t own, so I’ve not tried them…is the RPG-lite mechanics in any of them?

SOTN on XBLA was one of the main reasons I bought my 360 a couple of years ago. I hadn’t played it in 10 years because the PS1 broke and the CD was so scratched it wouldnt play. And the game was impossible to find at a decent used price.

Yeah, to an extent, all of them have the RPG-esque leveling up.

And Order of Ecclesia is one of those games that’s worth buying a DS for, IMO. It’s pretty challenging, has a fun glyph system (sort of liked it more than the soul-based on from the Sorrow series) and a kickass female lead.

I think there’s a general CV thread at General Discussions, so maybe these posts could be moved there(?)

They’re all “Metroid-Vanias” with rpg levelling, so they’re probably just what you’re looking for.

GBA must be real cheap these days. And DS (not the new “DSi” though) has support for GBA games. Or just play it some other way, hint hint.

But yeah, this is getting pretty off topic.

hope it has belment from castle v 2

Bump this thread for any tier list info?

It’s bad enough that this game plays like shit and has typical anime-influenced loli/perv bullshit among the characters (like Maria being an underaged titty-seeking bimbo) that keeps you from even recognizing the heroes we all knew and loved…

…but then they had to make all of the cooler Castlevania characters look like complete fags. I was kinda let down when I found out Richter wasn’t going to be in this game, but now I’m grateful they left him out, because they would’ve just taken off his shirt and threw in a shit-load of belt buckles or something to try to pass them off as “clothing.” Japan has gone fucking crazy.

To me, Castlevania has been out of ideas and fresh out of good protagonists for a very long time (GBA gen), but now they can’t even get any new ideas right. Castlevania probably just needs to die, like Megaman and Sonic. They all had a good run in the classics and a brief stint in the PS2/DC/GBA era, but they seem to have no place in a generation where Japanese people fuck up everything with the claim of “we were trying something new” by applying generic metrosexual and fanboy archetypes that appeal only to anime nerds.

No wonder FPS took over; because America is behind it, and we don’t give a shit if nobody finds Marcus or Master Chief to be a super cool anime hero with stylish hair and thin acrobatic features.

R.I.P.

^ I wouldn’t go that far. They just need new blood working on the games. Back in the day they had a different team for every game and now they have the SAME team working on every game, so of course things are going to get a bit stale. They also rush the games out. Castlevania is the one thing I love more than fighting games and I think if they get someone else working on the games and stop trying to re-create SoTN, they’ll have something.

As for tier lists, we made one over at the Anti-Chapel once, and I seem to recall Eric, Sypha, and Aeon being the top and Simon and Dracula being at the bottom. Of course, the stop-watch makes EVERYONE top tier.
