Any word on the “Arcade Aces” actually being based on the japanese players? … would be really cool if the wins against Chibita or Fuumin were against AI’s of the real players.

Actually, Lau has very little mixup options compared to the rest of the cast. That’s his biggest downfall. And on his “big damage stuff” you’re probably just not noticing the recovery time if you’re playing against him online. If he finishes any sort of string, and you happened to dodge or block it, he’s fkd. Not saying he’s bad, he’s very deserving of his A rank in the tier list, but he’s not quite the beast you describe.
(He does do a shit ton of damage though lol)
Don’t believe any of the AIs mimic anyone in VF5. Maybe they will in VF5: EVO, but that’s just speculation/guess/hope, no info on EVO at all yet outside of two new characters.
/\ That’s why I lose a lot. Recovery with Lau sucks, but when I get in my opponent is in for a world of hurt. Lol, I saw your Lau time attack and the funny thing is I get tripped up on his 246p attack while for you it wasn’t a problem. That shit never comes out for me.

On the 246P, not really sure what to recommend on it. Just make sure you’re in duck long enough to register that you are ducking. If you’re familiar with crouch buffering you can do it off that, or just hold down, then quickly input the 46P. Having played Akira a bit helped with that move.

There is a lan center here in san diego that wants to try to have a virtua fighter 5 tournament. At the earliest the 29th but I am sure they wouldn’t mind having it early January since that is going to be new years weekend.
Check out their site. They are serious about having game tournaments up the ass there. I’ve already gone to one for counter strike.
Post up here if anybody is interested and I can rely anything back to the guys who work there(I talk to them via irc) If there are any particular rules people want or how much they are willing to pay for tournament fees and such.

Man I am having trouble playing this game. I am too used to 3rd strike, when I block I press back
or forward to parry attacks.
Anyone have any tips when try to counter your oppenents attack. For example, Ellen is a bitch. She does the same combos but I can’t attack back without getting hit.
edit: jumped the gun a bit, if this doesnt make sense check your keyboard’s numerical pad
learn to evade and punish first ( evade is 2 or 8 when an attack is thrown your way ). THEN learn to use DM ( 2 or 8 and P+K+G, then P or K to attack ). THEN, once you know which one to use in what scenario ( normal evade has more invulnerability than DM, but DM is way more aggressive and lets you attack at someone’s side, usually leaving them sideturned if successful ) you’ll have an easier time getting out of random Eileen strings. Also learn to feather crouchdashes, that gets you out of a lot of trouble- it’s done like 363636 instead of just hitting diagonal 3333 to forward dash or 141414 instead of hitting 1111 diagonally to backdash.

thanks a lot. I will learn to evade. I also found out that getting up quick or rolling over is crucial in this game. I literary stomp on random players 30 times before they can get up.
Iam using Fei, the monk, as my first and main character. I just need to learn when to do his reversals.
