My thoughts verbatim. Ok not verbatim but that’s exactly how I feel too.
Stop being scrubs. What I always liked about VF is that there’s never too much reliance on one type of strategy. Blocking, attacking and throwing are equally important and you have to be good at utilizing all 3 to win matches no matter which character you use. In Tekken you can mash to get out of basic throws so the matches tend to just be about whoever gets the counter hit for the launch into combo then okizeme blah blah. Not to say that that isn’t fun…I mean it is. It just doesn’t have the variety to me that VF does.
Not always true, and this applies to tekken as well as 3s. Maybe I should rephrase a bit. Not dumbing down my skills, but playing stupid or relying on gimmicks or shenanigans that work because scrubs don’t adapt and scrubs don’t get mixed up… So there’s no point in conditioning, like with mind games or having setups on wakeup.
I hear what you guys are saying about having to dumb down your game against button smashers. I definitely think it’s true. Button smashers aren’t playing with skill, so if you try to play them with the same skill you would use against a good player, a lot of times it won’t work. So basically you have to beat them using tactics you wouldn’t dream of using against anyone halfway decent. But I think that’s true for a lot of fighting games.
Also everyone loses to button smashers until they learn how to deal with them. It’s just another skill or play style you have to learn to fight against. Play enough of those type of players and you’ll start seeing what works and what doesn’t.
I win 99% of my matches when I d+p better than the opponent.
The game is fun but usualy it ends being two guys punching eachother in the knee cap.
Leon seems way to powerful broken too. Like the magneto of the game.
Damn. I’ve been getting my ass kicked hardcore. I think I’m like 6 and 28 or something. Not quite ready to give up on Jacky, I havent played VF since 2, and he was my guy. Might have to switch to sarah if I don’t start winning though.
Anyone know if Jacky can be any good in this game, or is he like Zack in DOA?
Thanks
lulz
^Anyone can be good in this game, unlike DOA.
Jacky can be very effective in VF5. Since you have only played so many matches I imagine you are being hit by a bunch of wake up tactics and possibly not knowing when a few of your opponents strings end. VF5 is incredibly different from VF2 where basically none of the tactics used back then will get you anywhere now.
No matter what character you choose at that level, you are still gonna have a tough time. There isn’t a best character for getting around that stuff. It’s figuring out how to best defend yourself with the characer you have chosen.
For the moment I would really stick to the PLAYER MATCHES as opposed to RANKED, even the highest level players are still going for the win and won’t often let up to teach newer players in a ranked match. In PLAYER MATCH, fighters are much more forgiving and not so cut throat on player who obviously needs the practice.
And if I can offer any one peice of advice when it comes to playing this game, if you don’t recover when you fall, DON’T SWING A LEG WHEN YOU FINALLY GET UP. From the better players you are going to eat some of the nastiest wake up combos and it all starts from swinging from laying down.
I can’t tell if you’re trolling or not so I’ll just assume you’re being sincere.
Lion is ranked dead last in the tiers genius. If you think the game relies too much on low p you are a scrub, period.
Jacky seems like an easy character to start off with at first glance, but he’s a pretty technical character. To advance with jacky you’re gonna have to keep it moral. In my opinion his best offensive moves are his just frame flash kick 6k, cancelled with g and 6p elbow. 4p, 1p is also very good but it leaves you at -5 on normal hit.
My biggest problem right now is that I don’t know what’s punishable and what’s not for certain characters, so a lot of players get away with doing unsafe things, hence why I lose to a lot of mashers.
I’ve been improveing a little today. been able to punish better. I dont know how samrt this is but i will usually punish with df df k then juggle with beat knuckle, roundhouse, spinning low knuckle. I use that uppercut move alot too when i get someone blocking low. I think the biggest thing i could do to help my game is incorparate his dodge-after-combos moves. I beet a 9th dan akira today, after losing to him at least 15 times throughout the weekend, so I’m having fun.
lol I tried to play wolf, and aparently non of his throws were p+k command any more got owned.
My X-box live screen name is AbusiveBuffalo if any other noobs want to noob up some practice with me.
Got this recently and I am enjoying it a lot. Can’t be bothered to play single player but who needs that when you have house mates
At the moment having fun playing with El Blaze and Lion. El Blaze’s randomness potential is so awesomely high I can’t help but like him. El Blaze doesn’t really seem to have any low moves though, which I’m finding troublesome as the opponent can just block standing + throw escape a lot more than I’d like… means I have to go for interrupting their counter more.
Tried to play Jeffery but it seems like his moves are just too hard for me (pad user eheh) which is a pity because I like his combat style.
For the record my opponents play Vanessa, Sarah and Pai.
el blaze’s lows are pretty up-close; try:
2+K+G
1+K+G
1+K,P series…
during Rocket Discharge (RD), you can also do the baseball slide if you can read your opponent well if he’s blocking high.
Any reccomendations for a new Eileen player?
die.
</joke>
practice
abuse her low stagger over and over like everyone else on live does
Low staggers. Every Lau (self included) just does 1PP2P -> whatever.
Alot of Eileen I see use that move where she hops back, then forward with her mid.
Anybody play my scrubby Goh lately? I’ve mostly high around 10:30 PM - 1:00 AM so that’s probably the best time to school me.
Stop using your nose, and instead use your eyes. Then maybe you’d understand that I really love this game as indicated in my previous post.
I just don’t like the learning curve. Good to see that you actually care about that enough to respond.
Anyway, is there a list for the throw break commands online?
Not sure if I posted this on this thread earlier or the Strategy thread but here you go.
