About $230 was spent on UMVC3 from me, that’s UMVC3 game, Shuma/Jill, costumes, and a UMVC3 Hori stick.
Heh, now all of you SFxT players know the shit we Marvel players have gone through for a while now. People that don’t even play your game bitch at you. That’s the fighting game community at this point.
Getting off this horse’s mangled corpse, Soul Calibur 5 is getting a balance patch next week. I’m extremely excited for that. If they tone down Natsu’s damage, Leixia’s guard-killing abilities AND the fact that she can chain two supers into one combo, make Pyrrha’s 236B stab launch punishable, and do something with Nightmare’s 22AA, then the game will be VERY balanced. They said they’re listening to community feedback for the patch, and the SC community is pretty smart when it comes to this stuff. Too bad no one in mid-TN enjoys Soul Calibur except me and Gram…
I enjoy it… but that’s all I can really say at this point.
Astaroth: I think the difference is you know your game is derpy, but you are good at it and have fun, and I know my game is derpy and I am ok at it and have fun…
The people that COMPLAIN mostly don’t play either game or know much about it. I mean, you take it for what it is worth and as a “serious” fighter I don’t think the game will be that way, it’s boring and flashy in many ways but I have a good time playing it and just like with MVC3 there’s still a bunch of stuff to learn for a “non serious” game…
There was one game I completely hated playing, and that was Street Fighter Alpha 3. The problem is I was REALLY good at it but the game is one big broken pile of junk. Hitboxes make NO sense (kind of similar to SFXT, but WORSE) there were infinites galore and no one really was given a “patch” opportunity. We got SFA3 Upper and that game was not played at all in arcades…SFA3 (just like how “fixed” versions of 3s people despise) was really about people liking broken stuff. Can’t begin to tell you how I play against Chikyuu Sodom at EVO casuals and each match we played I win footsie war, and lose to 100% crouch cancelling infinite in the corner. Now THAT is a derpy game, lol
DLC “trap” would be the on disc costumes (SF4 and Marvel), on disc Shuma and Jill, etc.
Point is that I HAVE spent way too much money on fighting games, I understand it’s a business, but there has to come a point where a company goes “You know, maybe our customers would like to just have this with their product, instead of paying extra, maybe if we do that, they’ll like us more as a company.” and I don’t feel like that’s happened yet.
Trap may have been a poor choice in wording. It’s more of the fact that they just seem to hold out on people so they can make more money. And it’s pointless really, hell, charge for costumes if you want, whatever… But after looking it up, UMvC3 just now has had the final pack come out. And these costumes were in the damn STRATEGY GUIDE!!! Not only does that mean they’ve BEEN done FOREVER and COULD have been for FREE with the games release, they took MONTHS to even bring them out to the public. What’s the point of the wait? At least call it what it is and make it day 1 DLC so no one has to wait so fucking long.
Maybe I’m being unrealistic here, but is it too much to ask for a game company to just make a completed game for release on day 1? Tired of companies rushing out games and cleaning up after themselves via DLC, which just costs us more money. I’m all for DLC, I love it on paper, but in reality it’s just the newest marketing gimmick, and I’m banging my head against a wall ranting about it, but too many companies just abuse it. And I feel like that’s all Capcom has done.
I mean shit dude, they can have all the legitimate reasons in the world as to why there is locked DLC content on SFxT. My rebuttal to that is, if you needed more time to finish the game… why not just take it??? People are too impatient for that though I guess. Prefer to get a little here then the rest later… I just want the complete package, saves us money in the long run, and brings out a more fleshed out and polished game.
Remember when costumes for characters were just unlockables? No need to buy it. They were just on the game already, and given to you as a bonus for doing something cool. I miss those days. I know I’m rambling aimlessly, and most of this I’m sure everyone can agree with… But I’m just tired of feeling cheated, or feeling like every new Capcom game is rushed out the door. And for what? I literally do not know the point of rushing out a game. If they figure “Well we have to rush it out while the hype still lasts!!” then maybe they should just announce a new game once it’s further into the development process?
I may be assuming, but I would be damn willing to bet I’m right that these are the reasons the 12 characters are not on consoles for SFxT:
- Sony striked a deal with Capcom to get exclusive access for a certain time. Potential increase in Vita sales. Capcom gets money.
- Capcom can now release these 12 fighters as “new DLC content” and charge for them. Capcom gets money.
- Capcom gets money.
That’s all it comes down to. From our perspective, they’re just in it for the money. The burden of proof should be on them, not on us. Capcom has had videos taken down of the hacked content, the hackers accounts banned from XBL, etc. If that doesn’t tell you something, I don’t know what will. They’re up to something, and they got caught. That’s how I look at it. I would love to say “well we don’t know for sure!!” but I’m not that optimistic.
And, the official statement, via Capcom Unity:
How ambiguous is that? How much of a cop out does this sound like to you guys? In order to play against the other players?! That’s complete bullshit. For two reasons. One: Blazblue of all games fixed that with a FREE patch. Two: Not a reason why they couldn’t be unlocked initially. Hard drive space? Seriously? That’s just complete bullshit.
Anyways, I rambled way too much here, but at least I formed my thoughts more coherently I feel. It is what it is. That’s my opinion on the matter, and it won’t change, at this point anything Capcom does I will assume is for money first, and fan service second.

Edit:
@Astaroth and Jason: I hope you guys aren’t thinking that I’m attacking anyone who plays the game. They have EVERY right to play the shit out of and enjoy the game, and support Capcom in it’s entirety. I’m simply stating my reasons as to what about the game I don’t like. And it has next to nothing with the game itself, just the decisions behind it, and Capcom’s ignorance/indifference to tournament and hardcore players. (Still waiting to see how that Gem thing works out)
Grimstar: I read back, this whole DLC thing with Capcom is still not something THEY invented. This has been around for awhile, that is why I still don’t see any arguments relating to Capcom making people pay for more stuff. Every single game does this nowadays, it is purely where profit can be made because everything costs a lot more…MK did this, KOF did this, I mean, someone illegally went through the disk and found these characters and posted all about them. Why is no one mentioning that circumventing/going through those is illegal? I mean, this is still their IP. If they put unreleased troll info on a disk people would be up in arms, but I don’t see the issue, games have been marketed weird ways for years and each community has a ridiculous (you could say too much) voice these days but with any other game that has DLC that costs too much, hidden on disk to unlock, etc.
I mean, as much as I thought MVC3 trolled everyone in here originally and sat back and laughed, I still think it’s even funnier that everyone is so up in arms at this game for different reasons. It’s like the guys that take Smash Bros seriously and have to completely wipe down the rules of the game that wasn’t meant to be super competitive.
I know I’m older than everyone in the state that plays fighting games at a competitive level, but I’m not stuck in the past agreeing that this game is ZZZZ and I MUST PLAY MY ST YOU GUYS JUST DON’T KNOW mentality (Chris B knows I am not one of “those” OGs). I give everything a chance but I know that when certain game series (ALL of the Marvel series dating back to X-Men COTA days) are not for me I just don’t bother with them.
No one will ever be happy with every series. Everyone has gripes. SF4 series lets new guys focus like crazy, get lucky, and FADC. Not to mention all the easy moves involved. MVC3 is 50/50s 1 button = madness death combos. Guilty Gear can be one big combo video and air madness. Blazblue can be one big overhead into I press button easy land. Soul Calibur can be mash random. Tekken can be “oops, blocked wrong, lose all my left, next round. Forgot I had to old UP to block when grounded (wtf?)” Super Turbo was known for people that couldn’t play Hyper Fighting (bet no one knew that) and is mega high damage and dangerously broken on certain moves. 3rd Strike Chun Yun Urien Ken Makoto? Who plays that here now? Right. SFXT memorize tag in madness?
Point is you can gripe about just about any series whether you like it or not, lol…
Yeah, I realize I’m slamming capcom pretty hard, but they’re the most relevant company to me to do this atm. I guess it’s easier to just say I hate what DLC has become.
As for the hacking being illegal… I see that as the same way I see wiki leaks and the like… They’re just exposing something that people should know about.
Grimstar, also realize that companies have forecasts they have to go on, and stuff needs to be out on the days they need to be out now. This game was rushed to begin with and I’m surprised it came out as nice as it did but you are focusing on the “bonuses” more than anything. I still don’t see how Capcom should say ANYTHING when someone dug up that stuff on the disk. They should have just kept their mouth shut and trolled more.
Perfect world, DLC like you mentioned but these companies HAVE to make money somehow…
Yeah, I can see that. DLC is what it is, take it or leave it. I’m pointlessly arguing about it, honestly. And I would have preferred silence over the blatant lies they said about the stuff discovered.
Is there any reasons given why SFxT was rushed? I just don’t understand the point of rushing your products out… I mean it was 10 years between SF3 and 4. Seems like that worked pretty well to me. The game came out nice looking and good. I’m not saying I want everything to take 10 years, I just want them to take their time to make a good product. Haste makes waste.
Hi guys.
Every fg series had something to complain about. that’s just how it is and we have to learn to either deal with it and play or not deal with it and go play something else. There was only one vs game that was the most balanced fighter ever made and no one could argue this, that is until i discovered tri jumps lol

There ya go.
I haven’t seen this much over-analyzing since my 10th grade English class! If you don’t like SFxT that’s cool we can not play it and laugh about how dumb it is, if you love it we’ll play sometime and laugh about how dumb it is
Four player scramble is good for a bunch of laughs.
Everyone seems to hate it in Memphis :-/.
Jas next time I’m at fight night we WILL play some HDR on classic mode (it’s basically ST so don’t gimme that shit that it’s not the same). Since I’ve seen you talk about how good you are at it and how much you like it more than once.
Couldn’t make it out last night for Simpsons Fighter but if anyone is hosting this weekend I can probably be there.
Grimstar: Capcom wasn’t working on SF4 for 10 years though. The market was saturated and they didn’t work on it until there was begging and pleading basically to get it made…SFXT is more of a “here’s the license” everything has to be approved, etc…with licensing and approvals and royalties man, you guys have no idea how maddening that can be. Capcom can’t just give Kazuya a move and Namco not approve it…we had the same thing going on with all the licensing over the years with products and games (MK vs DC) that I have been involved in. Heck, I was even involved in the middle of licensing with DISNEY; time consumes on these things and runs out and before you know it SOMETHING suffers…I’ve literally spent weeks sometimes held up just because of emails/China/etc, but licensing on game stuff like this can really be a kicker so it’s hard to say precisely what can hold things up but obviously they didn’t have as much time as they would have liked. Those 12 characters might have some super broken crazy crap more than the Tekken characters and then people would say OMFG CAPCOM RELEASED THIS GAME UNDONE??? They can’t win, lol…
Ok. Can we please squash this now? Okthxbai.
I’ve been in training mode with k-dash…he seems fun.
Guys can we just agree to disagree as Mike said and move on? I’m way past over this discussion, lol.
Hey blud. What’s been good? How’s wifey? Y’all figured out where you are moving yet?
Also, if you guys can, hit Rich up to donate to Brandon (GoldenOreos) get well fund. He said only two peeps have contributed so far.
k’ theme is also boss
character is the definition of winning
Didn’t think about licensing issues actually… That makes sense. But if it was due to balancing issues they could have just said so. I just doubt it was since they’re already coming out on Vita version.
Anyways, I guess since no one has the patience for it I’m done discussing it. I find the conversation interesting, but to each his own. NAP TIME
