The New TN Thread: Jaggas and Bingos all day

Capcom just released a statement saying the material is on the dics to ensure compatibility between user and non users of the dlc. I’m no developer or coder so I couldn’t tell you if its an accurate statement or not. Meh I don’t buy it but w/e.

Edit: Genei Djinn. Thanks for that Starcraft clarification. And yea I think we slick disagree on that part. But its a business so I say get money get money get money!!!

Hey everyone, just wanted to say what’s up.

First off, CONGRATS to all the TN players who went and repped at Final Round! You make us all proud.

Second, I wanted to apologize to everyone for me not being at the T&G tournament. I had some major stuff come up unexpectedly right before the tourney date, and there was no way I could resolve it in time and make the tourney. Major props to GeekTwist and T&G for picking up the baton and running the event at such short notice.I hope everyone had a good time, and I’m very sorry that this had occurred.

Third, thanks also to everyone who checked in on me and asked if I was ok. You guys know who you are. I really appreciated the gesture. Everything has been handled, and I’m in the process of just trying to catch up on everything.

Fourth: DLC. I think the issue that a lot of people are upset about isn’t even the DLC, nor the delivery method, but rather the FALSE STATEMENTS that Capcom made about the DLC characters. “Oh Blanka’s is not done yet, Ono is having trouble integrating him into the system”. Then you see Blanka complete in the game, moves, animations, everything. So yeah, I can see folks getting really mad about that.Capcom should have been transparent about it from the beginning. If everyone knew what the “deal” was with the DLC characters from the beginning, the existence of them complete on the disc wouldn’t be so scandalous. This is a PR debacle. Capcom was not operating in good faith with its customers.

In addition, this begs the question of ownership? if you PAY for the disc, what part of it do you own? There are 38 “default characters” at release, not including Toro/Kuro/Pacman etc. Then you have another 12 that are ON the disc, but you don’t have access until you PAY. In essence, you have to pay extra for 24% of the game! So your initial purchase only bought you a game that is 74% complete! I mean, for TO’s this is going to be insane. Any tourney run with SFxT is going to require all the DLC characters, once they have been released. (and that doesn’t even touch the subject of WHEN they will be released).

I mean it seems simple to me, if I purchase a disc, everything on the disc should be included in the price. Here’s a lame analogy. You buy a car. There is a metal cap bolted over the drink holder. You ask and the dealership says they are still working on the drink holder, but that it will be ready for use in three months, for an additional $40. You wait three months (yeah right), return to the dealership, and say is it ready now? They say yes, take your $40, go to your car, pull out a key, and unlock the cap and remove it from the drink holder. It appears that the drink holder has been ready for use this whole time! Car dealership says thanks, and walks away with your money.

Yeah…

I see where you are coming from and I agree to disagree with you.

HUZZAH

No. If you bring a setup and you want fees waved - you better have all the DLC/patches for the games you are providing, otherwise don’t bother IMO.

Pretty much, agreed agreed x10.

Edit: This really sucks for smaller tourneys and events that don’t have a whole lot of financial backing. Many events are run with the help of the community, and this basically makes it more expensive for someone contributing a setup. So either the contributor shells out for DLC he may not really want, or he doesn’t bring a setup, or the TO will have to pay for the DLC costs for contributors out of pocket.

Seriously people, it’s not hard. People are just lazy.

Good to see you back Abe. It is now tme for you to return to your rightful throne as King of butter churning in SF x Tekken!!

In all honesty, they need to take this time to adjust Bryan Fury! Goodness he’s hideous in this game! He’s nothing like his Tekken counterpart. You see how he walks?? Ewww.

Wished the TOs did this better at Final Round as there were some KOF setups with no DLC and Marvel setups with no patches. I guess they were really desperate for setups due to the delay, smaller venue, more participants, etc.

Now that I read the Capcom statement, it looks like the SFxT DLC will be available after the Vita is release in Fall so all tourney before then including EVO and others in TN should be safe. I take back that last paragraph in my previous post.

Man, I just thought of something else that was kinda messed up. Are there any majors coming out after the Vita release? This assumes that the characters are released according to Capcom’s schedule. Again, this is just SPECULATION.

Let’s pretend that Season’s Beatings or something is like the very next month after the DLC release. What is stopping some dude from getting a hacked console, and straight up labbing the DLC characters for the entire time they are locked for the general population. Then he busts out all his tech that he’s learned from months of time with the game. Assuming he’s not some garbage player, he could do very well at some tourney because he’s already had time to dissect all the characters and come up with some stuff or strats that no one else has seen before simply because he was playing the characters for months before everyone else!

I know this sounds really far-fetched, but is it really? Tourney pots get bigger all the time, there could be a real financial incentive to do this, again assuming that the player has some skill.

I don’t see why not … It’s the same thing as “top” players getting copies of the games to test out 4-6 months before it releases and learns most of the game before anyone else touches it …

You may be mad about the DLC being disc or whatever. But at least Capcom is pretty fair when it comes to cost of these things it won’t be 5 dollars a character. the whole 12 characters will probably be 15-20 dollars a steal compared to games like blazblue or KOF

We have no idea what the pricing is. To my knowledge Capcom has never released additional characters outside of a full disc release, or a full rebalance/update like AE.

I hope you are right and the price is fair. IMO the best way Capcom can show good faith in this would be to make the characters free. But I highly doubt they will. Mark my words though, because of this incident there are going to be a lot of folks who will have lost some loyalty to Capcom, and I can’t say I blame them.

Ok everyone i’m going over schedules right now and all that good shit. I shall post an exact date for the memphis tourney tonight giving that sfxt don’t steal my time lol.

Good to see you back on the forums abe

Lemme just pop in and be “That Guy”. The answer is “you don’t own any of it” cause of the End User License Agreement on both your console that you agreed to when you powered it up and on every disc by placing it in your console. You’re basically (I mean on the basic level. It’s a lot more convoluted with legalese) paying for the ‘ability’ to play the content developed and nothing is actually your possession. Emphasis on “User” in EULA. You are a “User”, not an “Owner”.

It’s unfortunate that companies do this, but I can understand why.

Awwww Lee you are a sweetheart!! You were keeping me sane as well. I don’t remember what I even said to you about Josh. Get me started on my kids and I will talk forever. LOL! I would have stayed with you longer but Josh had not eaten all day and I had just had enough.

I will say that this was the absolute WORST tournament we have been to yet as far as time and crowds. This stuff may not have been a big deal to some people but I thought it was ridiculous for a 1:00 pool to start after 4:30 and then to try and run all 8 pools of 32 people all at once with 1-2 setups per pool? That was just one HUGE clusterfuck of people that was not necessary. I could not even get up there to watch any of Josh’s matches except his 1st one and I was only able to do that because Aaron let me up front (and Josh was barely able to get up there to play). That was just frustrating as hell. That is why I just gave up and went and sat with Lee. I told Josh to just come and tell me how he did. I am not saying anything bad about anyone that ran final round because I know how hard they work but there has to be a better way to do things than that. Either more setups or spread them apart or something. All I know is 256 people jammed all in one area is a very very bad idea!!

Good job to all of the TN guys that went and it was good to see you all. Josh didn’t have a good showing at all. He went 2-2 but he went into it knowing he probably wasn’t going to do well from lack of being able to play. I do think he has a new fire though. He came in and immediately went to his Xbox because COMCAST IS BACK and it is never leaving again…ever!! :lovin: You all may not be seeing as much Rufus from him though as he has decided to switch to Ryu. He has been talking about it for awhile but he wanted to stick to what he knew best for FR. Come MWC there may be a new main for Josh.

Jason, it wasn’t a wheel bearing (YAY!!!) it was the rear brakes making the noise. Nothing that couldn’t wait until I got home.

My question is why can they not wait for the game like the rest of us? This really irritates me.

If you’re part of that “crowd” it is just what it is. It’s not just them that got the game weeks early, other people can get it, just need to know where to look…California has always been a hotbed for this and honestly I am sure that them playing the game early works out well for finding weird shit that may need to be patched later on, who knows…but it’s not like it matters, with the internet everyone catches up mad quick…

GGs to Josh and Pat earlier, sorry I had to leave, was already playing SFXT and couldn’t stay very long

I understand Karin being high up, but how can people be overlooking the fact that GO HIBIKI is an option?

and Soul Calibur. Yup, still salty that the character that I was most looking forward to in the game was shoveled off to DLC land and can only find his way back to consoles via a $5 purchase if you didn’t buy the game at BBY. The issues you guys are speculating for SFxT, I have already experienced in MvC3 with Shuma and am sure to see in upcoming SCV tourneys with Dampierre. Oh and I like Alisa, so yeah…

GGAC+ won’t fail me though. Assuming it’s a direct port with up-scaled graphics, all of the characters will be unlocked and available from the jump. Fairwell cruel Capcom/Namco!
