The New TN Thread: Jaggas and Bingos all day

@ Zeth: That SCV match on stream was fucked up. Wireless pad they gave me kept grabbing and pressing random buttons. My wired pad and converter was being used atm. They gave me another one that did the same thing. Even when I held it in one hand and looked at Stone, my character was still doing moves and throws. But he was on some, “Man wow…that really sucks, let’s just finish match” shit like I was a sucker. And no other TOs were around when I was looking back so I just played it out to not hold up stream. Was mad as fuck. Major props to Trayveon aka Lord Iceman. He let us do a re-do in the corner like little fuckers. I still lost, but I think it was because I was so infuriated and riled up that I just wasn’t solid enough. But at least it was an actual match this time. Had people calling me on that stream shit. Dudes should know better thinking I’m grabbing from mid-screen or not letting charges go because pad is pressing grabs.

@ Lee: Yea I know man. Tourney was all over the place and was kinda hard-pressed to find casuals unless you wanted to walk up 16 flights of steps (honest to God) for KoF. I definitely wanted to play you to blow off some steam. Next tourney I come to and you’re there we’re getting it. Promise.

Major big ups to Patrokolos Farr. Youngblade knows what’s up. IN. THERE. Also props to Rell for exposing cats on stage. Full shoutouts later, I’m about to hibernate again for a bit. Too fucking exhausted.

Learn his normals first. Study his frame data for each move as well as how each move adjusts his hit box. For example…you cant go off of frame data alone. Perfect example is guy’s standing medium kick. Starts up in 7 frames but will stop bison’s scissor kick pressure if he decides to do crouching short (which is a much faster 3 frame move) after a blocked scissor kick. Its because the hit box for standing medium kick moves his lower vulnerable hit box further away in the 1st frame of standing mk, which will whiff punish bison’s cr. Lk. Its a guess…especially if bison has meter. But in early match scenario i use it a lot. Its a good move…stuff’s ryu’s crouching medium kick. Guy has decent normals and most leave him + or even on block (cr. Lp. , Cr.hp, cr.mp., cl. Mk, cr. lk., cr. Mk.) I just need to use them more instead of runstopping like a dummy…

His elbow drop is an excellent mixup in the corner if peeps try and guess your cross-up, (which is jumping mk.)

I think the Guy forum should be able to cover the rest…Guy is heavily dependent on you knowing his frame data and hitboxes…basically…

Just confirmed the prizes for the one we’re hosting tonight at GS is Southaven are a $65 gift card and a $20 gift card for GS. We’ll also be throwing in some venue passes and extra schwag depending on the turnout.

Good shit to everyone who final round’d it. I’m proud of you guys and wish I could have made it and pretend to rock some shit in Marvel or somin’.

Chris, you gonna get that SF x T now that Lars is now confirmed and you can play team Dictator Lars?

I might pick up SFxT just so I have a game to play with you TN guys. Hugo, Yoshi, and Ogre are the characters I’m eyeballing.

Nah the com I system is way too basic. They added that simple combination system for a bar too and that means I’m done. Not even gonna try it.

Fuck SFxT… Damn what’s the point of locking a huge amount of the cast on the disc? Just so people have more incentive to buy the Vita version? Don’t fucking kid yourselves capcom, no one’s buying that shit because no one has a Vita. And no one in their right mind wants it on Vita over a console.

IF I had a desire to play SFxT I’d want to use Lars and Guy. But I would have to wait until crapcom feels like letting us buy the already completed characters. At this point I don’t give a shit about paying for DLC, capcom’s gonna milk everyone they fucking can… it’s the fact that we have to wait til they say we can buy it due to some garbage marketing ploy. I hate capcom, seriously.

I’m still open to trying SFxT… but god damn I don’t even want to buy it just out of principal at this point. Ugh.

Not to mention that how much are they going to charge for each DLC character??? It’s gonna be at least $15 minimun I’d bet for all 12. Realistically probably another like 30 bucks. Way to fuck over TOs everywhere with your stupid game capcom. -_-

Based on the 12 characters being labeled as Vita “exclusives” and how the “exclusive” PS3 characters (Mega Man and Pac-Man) are on the 360 copies as well, I’m assuming that Sony came to Capcom with a deal to hold off on releasing those characters to everyone just to build up hype for the Vita and PS3 copies. And hey, fine, Microsoft and Sony do this kind of shit all the time, and if Capcom thinks the money is worth it then whatever. Their company, their decision. What I don’t like is Capcom feeling like they have to sneak around and lie to us. If they came straight out and said, “Oh guys, there are 14 other characters ready but they won’t be available as paid DLC until this date,” then I’d feel a lot better about it. Hell, all they’d have to do as of right now is just make those characters free or something. Delay them all you want for Sony’s promotions, whateverthefuck, but at least make them free down the road if we can’t play them now.

I’m not a game developer, so I don’t know shit as far as how all this stuff gets the way it is. I just don’t want Capcom to keep hiding shit as if our fragile little minds can’t handle whatever it is they have to say.

Didn’t SNK let us know about the character DLC before the release date? I would give SNK any money they asked for, for whatever DLC. Capcom on the other hand does this with all of their games. I am still buying SF X T but am on the fence about buying more characters or any of the DLC. Will evaluate the situation when time comes.

games industry is a business and DLC is planned/budgeted/developed ahead of time because DLC increases profits. that means often times development begins before the game itself is finished as other resources (artists, some developers) move off the release content and into future content.

just because its on there doesn’t mean its finished either

in short,
deal with it

The issue is with the DLC characters in general … costumes? colors? shit that like, who cares - pay for it if you want it … but having actual tournament viable characters DLC is a fucking nightmare for TOs if you have to pay for them.

I don’t disagree with this at all.

I am hating on the mentality that companies are evil for wanting to make money, or that Capcom in particular is guilty of some conspiracy to not actually finish SFxT. They knew they were going to add characters from Day 0 of development, the not-finished DLC artifacts appearing on the disc is a sign that their development team is efficient, not that they hate gamers.

The characters are finished. This includes all their related cutscenes, etc. that go along with them. There is no “well we have day one dlc because we started working on the dlc once the game went to production” excuse here. If they had actually done this, the game presumably should have been ready for release months ago, they’d be finishing up these new characters now, and there wouldn’t be much in the way of complaints. All this is (assuming they don’t release the DLC later FOR FREE, which I think we would all agree the chance of that is about 0) is a way to get us to pay $75, $80, whatever they plan to charge, instead of the usual $60. They know if they charged $80 in the store, no one would buy it. If they charge us $60 in the store, get people hooked on it, then sell unlock codes for the other characters on the disc a few months later, they know a lot of those people will just pay the extra money, effectively paying again for what they really walked out of the store with on release day.

Has anyone seen the Jin glitch yet?

You don’t actually know this. I can have a frontend or even most of an application “finished” and have it look like it’s usable/ready for production but that doesn’t mean that it is. Knowing nothing about the codebase of SFxT, how can you assume these characters work properly because someone can get them running with a hack, or they have cutscene footage completed? The testing cycle for these characters may be far from complete. And even if they were…

This is a general argument against DLC. Of course it’s a way to get us to pay extra money. Capcom invested money in creating extra characters to sell to you later so that they could make additional profit. These characters would not have shown up in a disk release just because, they showed up because they found a way to budget them in. The scope (or even just budget) of the original release probably did not include 12 additional characters.

Fucking this!

It is sad when a major tournament that has been ran yearly for 15 years suffer from this problem. At Final Round, KOF pools were a nghtmare for those who played with DLC characters. The TOs there tried their best to run things as fast and as smooth as they can but shits got delayed. There were 3 set ups in my 32 man pool. One set up had all DLC and unlocked characters, another had DLC but no unlocked characters, and the last one had neither. As many of you know, I play with EX Kyo (DLC) and Saiki (Unlocked). How the fuck are they gonna count a set up as a set up if it doesn’t have all the characters on it? I had to wait like an hour for a set up to play my matches. I blame Graham slow ass for not giving out faster hugs with Clark.

For SFxT, I will only learn how to play characters on disc if I decide to play it competitively and not DLC even though I really want to play Bryan. The game was really fun from what I did get to played over the weekend. I might say its even more fun as a party game than Smash.

Oh and another thing that pissed me off at Final Round was the Marvel pools. Not that it started like 6 hours late, but the fact that 2 of the 4 set ups in my pools were UNPATCHED. I am not playing this stupid game in a real tourney match unpatch where my opponents can tech throws during their recovery frames. Fuck that.

[S]Warning for all TOs like Dream and Jas for their upcoming tourney that involves SFxT. Might as well make a rule that DLC characters are not allowed to make your life easier. While this will piss off some players who main the DLC, at least you will be giving them a head notice that they won’t be allowed in your tourney. If not, yall gonna have a hard time finding set ups with all the DLC.[/S]

I didn’t get to tell this to Jason earlier, but at FR, UNLOCKABLE characters were not unlocked on most consoles for SC5. No stations near me had Algol. The easiest way to combat this would be to copy a save file that has all characters unlocked and put it on every system.

I think both sides have a valid point.

Eraser hit the nail on the head. When I saw that the 12 characters were on the disc I was like, “ok, they on there, but they probably aren’t finished seeing as they will be PAID dlc”. I go to check the videos out and nope! Every single character is complete as complete can get. Lei is changing stances that are FULLY animated and every character has his or her Cross Art and Super Art. When you ask the public to pay for DLC, you are implying that the content you are releasing required additional resources to complete and they couldn’t be completed by the time the release date came around. This is clearly not the case for Capcom and SF x Tekken.

However, panda avi dude has a point. Capcom shouldn’t be seen as “evil” for trying to make money. They are a company after all and times are tough. They trying to live too so any avenue they can take to make extra scratch will…and should be taken. We also need to keep in mind that they will be offering $500,000 in prizes this year to celebrate 25 years of Dragon Punches and Hurricane Kicks. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the starcraft community has to pay for certain dlc and updates right?? If that’s the case, no wonder Blizzard supports the community the way that they do. I think the same kind of view should be taken in the FG community. If we want to see Capcom to continue to support the community monetarily, we should also expect to pay SOMETHING in return. Rather it be a brand new game or dlc packs.

Does this make me any less salty about having to pay for characters that are already on the disc of my copy of SF x Tekken I will be playing tonight? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! It makes me angry! But I get the decision behind it.

That’s not a general argument against DLC. It’s an argument against putting it all on the disc (thereby delaying the game further so they can work on this content) and then making us pay to play it later. If the game came out 2 months ago and had none of the characters on the disc, and capcom started working on these 12 characters at that time for release later this year, I have no problem with it. They put out their game, went back to work and came up with more content for later on down the line.

That’s why I have no problem with SF4, super, AE, etc. They release an update and then go back to work and continue trying to make improvements/changes/additions to the game. I don’t mind if they do this with costumes and shit like that, because it has no effect on gameplay. This is like buying SF4 vanilla and all the characters from SSF4 are already on the disc completed then a year later they make you pay them again to now use them. You’re basically buying Super SFxT tonight, you just don’t get all the features of it until to pay them extra later down the line.

I’m saying that the “AND” clause in that sentence should be taken out. They spent extra money on it; therefore, it’s DLC. Timeline of completion with respect to release date is irrelevant, all that matters is the reason that money was invested in the content!

If you don’t agree with that, that’s fine. We can have a Gentleman’s Disagreement.

And yes, StarCraft players have to pay for updates, but they are exceedingly rare (only Brood War with SC1 and with SC2 only Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void).

Basically they just pay for expansion packs once in a blue moon and other balance updates and such are free.
