I don’t even love the big combo oriented stuff. It’s just that alot of those games tend to be the most solid, technical, and legit imo. Like, I love T6 but I kinda prefer DR more. My GG playstyle was too unorthodox and ghetto . I rarely, if ever, use HD combos or loops in KoF. MK9 wasn’t terribly combo heavy. Like seriously, I actually prefer a lot of well placed strikes or just a solid 3 hit combo, get my knockdown and then a potential mixup. If I could do this in every fg I’d be fine.
Speaking of MK, me and Cody were talking about it yesterday. He said I need to play Sek again and get that huge MLG pot. It’s over for me in that game. I would like to play it again but I haven’t kept up with anything since before DLC charas. He said he’d do it again if he had a scene for it in Florida and someone to train with, but that’s the same reason he won’t get into KoF. And Marcus said he’s just focusing on KoF with a hint of SCV at MLG. So yea. But if MK9 kicked back off again I kinda wouldn’t mind. I personally put alot of time into that game. The Raiden shit crippled me but when I studied up on it Cyrax came lol.

The music is cool. SSX 3 probably had better music. Not one single person has denied that so it’s probably true. But yea the music isn’t bad. On Tour’s tracklist was way worse. Also, this game actually has the option under RiderNet to rip any songs you have on your system straight on the game and into the playlist. I was talking to Sluch, Kyle, Ray from Cincy/KY. They made me want to get a VS scene started here again. But it’s like…I don’t think old school 2D could thrive and ripen here anymore. That small Project Justice revival probably should’ve been VS because people can actually find the match videos for that lol. But think about it. You could really be Godlike Rushdown in that game. I did. But then I realized it’s not anger towards the actual game, it’s the whole concept of the game and how it was delivered. I really think sometimes, what if this whole game was a giant mockery troll by Capcom just to see if people would eat it up. So that they can see what else they can get anyway with. Sounds paranoid, but it’s been some real blatant lies and proposterous stuff from that company about that game. I’m not the only one that considered that was the case here. But it’s only like 3% of us total and we can’t do anything about it. If Capcom themsleves released a statement saying, “We messed up, we wanted to see how stupid and gullible you guys were, we’re sorry, accept these costumes for $15 instead of $20 as our apology.” People still would act as if it’s all good. In the world of consumerism, this is how you get a response from big companies. Game companies perhaps get away with the most trash, just because of the makeup of the consumer base. Who they’re actually selling and marketing the product to.

I understand where you are coming from and I respect it. :tup: As long as Josh is having fun and people are playing these games at tournaments then I will continue to support him. He really really likes the game. It got him interested in fighting games again and not WoW. It has given him a new interest to make the money I put out for tournaments more worth it. What a lot of people don’t realize is that Josh is really burnt out on SF4. He is tired of not having anyone to play with, he is tired of Rufus, and he knows that he is at a point that he can not get any better than he is now without playing more and more people on higher levels than him but he only has online for that. So he is just over it. He didn’t want to stop going to tournaments but he wouldn’t practice hardly at all and started not doing as well even at smaller tournaments. So then I started wondering why in the hell am I spending $500-600 for a weekend for him to not do well. Don’t get me wrong I don’t expect him to win and I am proud of him no matter where he places, but when I see him having no interest to the point he doesn’t even want to practice then I start questioning why we are doing this. So long story short is, yeah it sucks I had to pay $65 for yet another game and I will probably end up buying the DLC for him too but it is giving him something to do, he is happy and he is going to kick ass in this game in tournaments because he is getting really good at it (and he isn’t using Rufus in case anyone was wondering). So for now I am happy with that. :wgrin:

Yo man. I can’t quite tell if you are being tongue in cheek here or not, but I just wanted to offer a rage free rebuttal because I can’t escape the feeling that last point was directed at me, Mike, Sev, and others that are speaking out against the game here.
Shawn you know I love you dearly man. I consider you a close friend, so to hear you say this whole thing makes you not wanna hang around fighting game players hit me pretty hard. I hate that it made you feel that way and for that I am truly sorry. I just wanted to offer some clarification in my own defense:
To me, it’s not about “being negative all the time.” you know as well as anyone here that I try to be a champion of these games, both in the competitive sense and in the sense that I try to branch out and play other games, as well as trying to get others into them. I am not afraid to step outside of the SFIV comfort zone.
I guess my anger over this game was an amalgamation of a lot of things. I was actually thinking about how I was going to word this and having conversations with peeps all day. This was really the first fighting game that has angered me to the point of being so vocal. I will be the first to admit I was on the Marvel hype train and was excited for the game. I tried to get into it but quickly realized it was both not for me, and also stupid. I am actually kicking myself because I still have my sealed, still in the plastic copy of Ultimate as I forgot to take it with me to trade in towards SSX. The difference was I followed that game all through development, but with cross I just did not care up until right before game’s release when it started getting a lot of buzz. I am beginning to ramble, but TO ME, SFxTekken represents EVERYTHING that I feel is WRONG with this current generation of fighting games and how they are delivered, and this is coming from someone who tries games and tries to find something to like about them.

The Childish Gambino/Danny Brown show I was going to this Friday has been canceled due to Gambino suffering a fractured foot at a show in Tampa last Saturday. I am absolutely crushed right now. I thought my dreams of going to this show were done when tickets sold out for ATL (where I originally planned to go) like lightening. I bought a ticket for the Charlotte show. Then the next day I found out about a 3rd party that sells tickets called StubHub. They were legit and I found tickets for the ATL show. So I immediately copped them for me and my friends and even got a refund for my Charlotte tickets. I was HYPE man. Been waiting on this show for MONTHS and was so crunk because it was what I had planned for my birthday, and now it is no more. It was rescheduled for June 10th which is the worst date ever because it’s during Bonnaroo.
This can’t be life. Only reason I am not sobbing uncontrollably is because of all the love shown towards the kid for his bday. Thanks and peace to you all.

Lol, cbrown. You know I love you. I’m just disappointed in the scene is all. I’ll be the first to admit that especially when I picked up KoF13 I got some hate towards AE. A lot of it comes from the fact that AE fucking shit on the character that I spent 2500 hours studying. But, you know… I realized something.
People that just sit around only playing and praising the same decade old games are sorta sad, man. It’s I mean… trying to say this in not such a terrible way… Sorta pitiful. At some point in time I realized that I’m just not the kind of guy who lives in some nostalgia child zone where the games that I’ve invested a lot of time in are the only right good games.
I’m really not interested in AE anymore. It’s a good game, it got me through years and allowed me to meet some of the coolest people in my life. But, continuing to just play that isn’t who I am.
King of Fighters 13 showed me that I could --as an adult-- love a game that wasn’t AE. I could play characters that weren’t Sim. And that was exciting to me. Tekken never sat with me and as much as I enjoyed KoF 2002 and Alpha 2 (both of which I played in anticipation of 13) I’m really into playing and experiencing new things.
I’m sure mike deosn’t agree or whatever. But, I’m a student of game design. I need to constantly keep up with what’s going on in the world of game creation. When I was like 13 I did everything that I could to acquire old Atari games and all of the old PC games that I hadn’t played. Even at that point in time I played about every good new game that was coming out. I wanted to have a full experience of video games from the beginning. I’ve actually done a pretty good job keeping up over the years. Maybe this is part of the reason why I’m not afraid of the new.
I also can’t help but to feel like the whole “everything that’s wrong with everything” is blatantly and undeniably irresponsible. Which was honestly part of my reasoning behind calling the FGC immature. It’s intellectually dishonest to make these claims. It’s a whipped-up media-frenzy Fox News style and all of these otherwise reasonable people are falling for it. Pretty depressing, actually. When one objectively looks at the situation without the media frenzy what do you get? Oh, another Capcom game came out and it’s a really cool game to play with friends online multi-player (4 player online!). I don’t know about you, but that’s been a dream of mine for a long time. It actually has good netcode!! Capcom-built netcode that’s really good! It’s a lot better than AE! Awesome!! Maybe you don’t like the graphics or whatever. shrug
That’s the end of the story. Fun game for 4 players to play online at the same time while drinking and joking around or whatever. Good netcode and maybe you don’t like the graphics. shrug That’s all. That’s what everyone is up in arms about.

As for the majority of what you’ve said… you’re basically arguing that people shouldn’t be entitled to an opinion other than your own because if they do they’re being an “immature member of the FGC.” Honestly man, that’s just bullshit. I feel like SFxT is just the latest culmination of Capcom’s underhanded marketing strategies and attempt at dumbing down of the fighting game genre as a whole in order to increase sales. (See potentially buyable combos DLC.) Don’t mistake anyone’s anger or resentment towards the game as ill-informed hipster hate. I don’t think I’ve seen any illogical argument against the game in the TN thread. I see a hell of a lot of tongue in cheek “hate” thrown at it, but in my opinion most of it is warranted. I won’t hate the gameplay (aside from gems) because I haven’t put effort to seeing it at it’s true potential, but I will hate Capcom for their shady and questionable marketing tactics, and seemingly indifference to their fans complaints.
I don’t hate the game, I just hate what it stands for at this point. And that’s a lot of what Mike was getting at, it’s just a seemingly dumbed down game, and a company’s latest scam. And before anyone throws the whole “Well businesses have to make money” argument my way… No shit they do. But if I feel like I’m being ripped off, they aren’t getting it.
I’m still holding off til I see what they do with the 12 (FUCKING TWELVE) DLC characters before I make a final judgement on whether or not I want to get the game. And of course it’s not just Capcom, as Sony had to have had some part of the Vita only characters deal going on. I just wish Capcom had the fucking brains to realize that locking characters from one version of the game isn’t the same as locking a costume on a disc. When it comes to a fighting game, holding out characters on us shouldn’t be taken so lightly. That’s literally holding a core piece of the game out on you. It would be like playing Mass Effect but removing an entire segment of the story and just saying “Deal with it.” No company in their right mind has removed a hugely core part of their gameplay and made it DLC then asked you to buy it to complete it. DLC shouldn’t be used to milk money out of people. I want to buy a complete game, not a half assed diet version like Vanilla MvC3 was. It’s just lazy, greedy, or stupid. And generally at least 2 out of those 3 I feel are what was going on when the decision was made to lock out such a huge portion of the cast. It’s like Capcom doesn’t even understand their own games. Fighting games require characters to fight. Holding them above our heads like that only to release them as DLC (hassle) is just ignorant. They should know how important it is to the hardcore fans of their games that characters not be locked out like that, and that no TO wants DLC characters in fighters. They’re just so ignorant I feel like. And if they’re just trying to appeal to the masses, then they’re just greedy. It’s one of the two. Either way, Capcom doesn’t do shit for it’s fans anymore.
If the Vita version just came with every single alternate outfit, but no Vita only characters, and consoles got a full cast of characters as well (all 12 DLC guys atm), I could guarantee this game would get far less hate. I do agree, however, that a lot of people are letting the DLC hate bleed over into hating the game itself. I can see the logic behind it, as it’s hard to want to play a game that you feel has just slapped you in the face… But I can definitely agree the game is getting a lot of unwarranted hate, but not all of it is illegitimate.
Anyways, my main point is that other people having differing opinions than your own doesn’t warrant insulting their intelligence or lifestyle choices, that’s just pointless and kind of takes away from your argument… But alas, a lot of the SFxT haters (myself included sometimes) are guilty of going overboard on the hate train just for shits and giggles, it’s fun to rip on it… But that’s all it is on the surface, is trolling or exaggerating. I’m sure Flymike could post an incredibly long rant about all of the shit he hates about SFxT, and I’m sure they’d all be legitimate or logical reasons (or opinions that can’t be invalidated, because they’re god damn opinions), but he probably just doesn’t give a shit to do it. The primary logical argument is the whole DLC thing… and that this is sort of becoming a last straw thing for a lot of people and Capcom fans in general. They’re losing faith in Capcom, and for good reason too.
This is probably my last post on the matter, because I’m tired of reading and arguing about SFxT… Like I said earlier, it is what it is. I’m bored of the arguments for both sides of it at this point.
