I heard this thread was made to avoid updating the first post of the last one
I try my best not to be a Sony fanboy, but Microsoft and Nintendo are trying their hardest to keep me PlayStay.
Xbox One is the technologically weaker system. It’s $100 more expensive. It’s online play subscription model is a weaker proposal than Sony’s (though I hate the idea of any kind of flat entry fee to online multiplayer gaming). AA batteries. Media services locked behind Gold.
I’m not adding mandatory Kinect or the TV focus, as you’ll have noticed, as negatives as most people would because I actually think there’s some pretty neat ideas there.
What I’m really getting a PS4 for, though, is the Sony first party devs. In the second half of the last console generation, the differences in terms of first party support between 360 and PS3 were pretty vast. I can’t imagine that changing any time soon with the much more dev friendly approach that Sony seems to be taking this gen.
Like I said, I try not to be a fanboy but unless you’re looking for specific games exclusive to Xbox One, I’m not seeing much that will make you really want one over a PS4.
Well its been clear as crystal that the PS4 is in fact the better value. Anyone denying that, imo is a fool. But like you said it boils down to the personal preference of exclusives. Me? Yeah. I’m scooping a XBO. Cause those exclusives teetered the balance when I looked at the 2 consoles for myself. I mean as it stands now, I get all the Multiplats I wanted and the Exclusives I care about. Sony could have 50 exclusives drop on day one…but if none interest me…why would I buy them?
I already know im getting a PS4 down the road (Thanks GGXrd, unless you magically multiplatform too). But thats coming after I get a better PC first.
Well so far it seems like Microsoft is trying to step up in the exclusive regard. Whether its through their own stuff or 3rd party exclusives. Plus unlike 360, there’s actual exclusive stuff that interests me for this system outside of Halo. It doesn’t seem like One will be another Halo + multi plats system this time around.
There really isn’t a whole lot to it in general other than some people may just find one or a few exclusive games that really entices them on one system and it goes from there. If people play systems for games, then the one or few exclusive titles a system may have may entice them more than a supposed larger set of exclusives that they may not care for. A good fighting game is enough to keep me interested for years and Killer Instinct looks good for that. Sunset Overdrive and Quantum Break look different enough to actually get me to play something other than a fighting game for once.
Technologically weaker…who knows how long it’s going to take before that technology is actually discernible by the average consumer? Outside of first parties you probably won’t see much of a difference and those first parties will probably take a while to really understand how to get the most juice out of the system. Plus as far as technology is concerned…people are already saying PC’s have or will surpass both systems really soon. If you’re buying a system for “tech” you’re fucking up IMO. To me it’s more about the games, peripherals and general convenience for plug in and play. The ease of use of a system and the stronger support for fighting games is has what kept me with systems over PC gaming.
Then there’s the whole cloud thing which sounds like theory right now, but the theory is supposedly that the cloud itself will enhance the tech of games virtually without any hardware added.
As far as the internet stuff, both systems are going to make you pay money to play any of there big titles online. Unless you’re planning to just be an indie gamer, you’re going to pay that once a year bill. Xbox may be 100 dollars more, but its for a reason that may pay off in the long run. Plus since I’m mostly a fighitng gamer/indie gamer I’ll probably be spending less on the Xbox One in one year than people will be spending on their PS4 in the first few months. I’m looking at probably not much more than 700 dollars spent over the next year unless Sunset Overdrive or Quantum Break comes out before then. Killer Instinct, Crimson Dragon and Dead Rising 3 (if I decide to get the last one) will hold me over till then.
^ This is the “Infinite Power of The Cloud” they’ve been tossing about. an article from Respawn(Titanfall guys) Talked about it.(link below)
http://www.respawn.com/news/lets-talk-about-the-xbox-live-cloud/
The only exclusive I care about so far is Titanfall, and it’s only “exclusive” in the loosest sense of the word, since it’s already confirmed for Windows and it’s been leaked that they’re developing for PS4 as well.
I think I’ll pick up a system in a year or so, probably after the non-Kinect SKU is released (and the price drops accordingly). As of right now… I’ll just say “it’s not for me just yet.”
Having said that, both consoles are lacking in exclusive launch titles. No big deal, it’s pretty much the same as any other launch ever except for what, Dreamcast?
Yeah Dreamcast still is basically the best launch ever. I bought an Original Xbox for Dead or Alive 3, Mech Assault and Halo and was pretty happy with that. So far the launch line up on Xbox is better for me (sequels to Killer Instinct AND Panzer Dragoon??? yeah in there) and definitely preferring the non fighting game exclusives down the road. Hope Titanfall lives up to the hype because it’s got a lot of it. Otherwise waiting for Sunset and Quantum Break. Maybe D4 will surprise us also, but probably not.
There isn’t going to be a non Kinect SKU. I’m almost certain of that. They want the Kinect to be something that devs regularly utilize and the only way they can do that is packing it in with the system. I wish they could have found a way to just install it inside of the system rather than having it be a separate peripheral, but they’re doing the right thing as far as making it something everybody has. If it works out it’s basically the last motion sensing controller anyone will ever need. Fuck having to hold something in my hand that isn’t a cell phone.
You can always count on a regular price drop eventually. If the Xbox One sales are meeting or exceeding their expectations the Kinect will probably never leave the system. The bigger issue the Kinect has is the whole worrying about it malfunctioning or the price for replacement if it breaks or something. Hopefully its built sturdy enough where it becomes more of a qualm than a dire issue.
And as someone who has the Wii U and plans on getting both - so obviously not a fan boy…how is the bolded part any different than this generation?
From day one…the PS3 was the ‘technologically stronger’ system. From day one - XBL cost money while PSN was ‘free’. Day one you needed batteries or a battery pack. Media service locked behind Gold is a wasted discussion point, if you get a XBox, its expected that you’re getting XBL, just be honest about it.
Did any of it matter? M$ pretty much kicked ass this generation minus the Wii’s strong hardware sales early on, before people realized how fad-ish the system really was. The 360 almost ALWAYS had better performance for games because - while I hate to ‘hide’ behind what a M$ rep says, M$ knows software, so developers were able to get more out of the specs using the M$ developed tools. XBL cost money and now we are getting dedicated servers on top of it, as opposed to the archaic methods used for the PS3…XBL also didn’t go down for like a week and change or have passwords swiped, etc. Oh and PS+ being better? That’s only because they tossed us free games that most people have or can go buy for $10-$20. And now M$ is doing the exact same thing…so how is it ANY different? Batteries? Yeah, so if the controller’s batteries start to die, I can just do a quick swap and keep going without plugging up. I have 4 battery packs and cna just rotate as need be. There are plusses and minuses to both approaches, god forbid the PS controller stops holding its charge, then you’re stuck buying a new controller (I wil lsay the battery seems to last longer on my PS controller).
So I’m not going to sit here and say ‘oh no your wrong’, cause for the most part you aren’t - but all I see is a continuation of the current norm with Sony actually taking practices from M$ and vice versa. The only thing really worth arguing is the value of Kinect. For me, I know I’ll use it…ALOT actually, my wife and son love playing on there, though Doodle Jump is problematic, but I know most people ‘right now’ will shy from it, but it REALLY is one of those things were the more you use it, the more you like it…little things like controlling Netflix with my voice - really become second nature. Improving that experience is worth it…for me. So I like hte value, but I do understand folks who don’t. What I do wish M$ did though was find a way to use the new Kinect with both systems. I have a WiiU, a 360, a PS3, and getting the XBOne - 3 of which want shit in front of my TV…dead middle. I wanted the PS Move as well so I can do the Guncon stuff…but where am I going to put everything? I need to condense it, and it would be nice if I only had one kinect up.

hahaha
obviously we all care
Yeah all the stuff M$ was doing had no affect on me. Mainly just wanted an Xbox1 for the multi media aspect to it. Being able to switch from one thing to the other is going to be pretty sweet in my home theater. If Xbox1 can some how allow you to use other apps(Netflix, Hulu, etc) without having to be a Live gold member i would probably be buying 2 at launch.
Last gen i ended up buying 4 xbox 360s, 2 ps3s, & 3 Wiis. I just realize the only thing i really played was digital games. I bought the 360 for SF2 Hyper Fighting & when my 360 broke, i ended up buying another one to play SF2 HDRemix. The PS3 was just used as a bluray player/HDR remix & the Wii was played w/ the asian wife & kids. I did buy the occasional sports games & the shitty fighting games but that was pretty much it last gen.
This time around, Battlefield4 looks pretty amazing & of course Killer Instinct…If Killer Instinct turns out to be shitty, hopefully the arcade port of the original Killer Instinct is good & that would justify my purchase for the Xbox1 as a gaming console.
I really haven’t been keeping up at all, i just recently found out the PS4 & XBox1 were coming out soon & was like what. So im looking at the PS4 right now & im looking at the launch titles, i really dont see anything at all worth playing or justify buying one at launch. I regret buying the Wii U at launch as i haven’t even bought one game.
I read about that - it’s basically the same thing with PS3, except the PS4 doesn’t have any other option for output other than HDMI. Turns out that there’s a cheap solution to that from Monoprice (http://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-Digital-Optical-Toslink-Converter/dp/B0038XNTWW) that I’m about to set up and use for my PS3 recording, so I don’t have to keep switching to composite to use my LGP. Combine that product up there with a DVI<->HDMI cable and a toslink cable and it
I’m gonna test it out this weekend, and I can let you all know if it works. If so, there’s no reason it shouldn’t work on the PS4 theoretically.
I suppose I should have tested it with a single unit before I went ahead and bought two of them…
It is kinda sad when only 3 people on srk are discussing the Xbox One in a positive manner. That really says a lot, imo.
admittedly I mostly stay away from pre launch console news cuz idgaf, I like to wait a solid 2/3 years or 5 games that I want to come out before I pick up a console and usually get to avoid any hardware gaffs as a result
I heard you got an Atari 2600 2years ago. Maybe in 25years, your SS can get you an Xbone.
hahaha when I saw the last post was by you I immediately thought it would be an atari post
WE IS BROS
also thank you for it again
Srk has always been a place of hating ass mother fuckers. Nothing new there. Once Microsoft puts their innovations in a direction that appeals to the consumer wiithout detracting the basic needs of the customer (which is already happening) people will warm their way in. People don’t like change until they see it do something for them.
Well, I think it also has to do with the fact that just about all news about the Xbox One has been bad news. I have yet to read anything truly exciting/positive about it.
Even you guys that are all hype for it have nothing really positive to post about it…just argue with people that point out what they think is negatives about it and try to pump each other up. It really sucks imo.
Im pretty hype, cant wait for Nov 22. I really had no idea new consoles were coming out until the press conference thing pop up on my xbox live. I watched it & was very impress with the Xbox One…Then i come online & notice people shitting bricks about how it had to be online all the time, no backwards compatibility, used games, etc…None of that bothered me but was blown away how everyone else reacted to it. M$ fix most of the concerns so exactly why do you guys feel xbox sucks/going to fail?
I haven’t really heard a whole lot that’s super exciting outside of the exclusive games that I want for either system. PS4 brought up the Cloud thing which was the only thng I got excited about and then I heard Xbox was doing it also and then wasn’t excited anymore. So I was like “ok cool…I like the idea and Microsoft is doing it too”. Then I saw Killer Instinct and was like “Xbox One here I come”. The system could be the worst system in 20 years and as long as KI is good I’m set.
What people are most excited about concerning Sony is pretty much the whole “hey were protecting your rights” shit. Which that isn’t exciting if you already were playing mostly digital games and alread had regular internet access. Once I get over the consumer rights stuff the PS4 for me is PS3 with better graphics and no Killer Instinct. Then I hapoen to look around and check out all of this other interesting exclusive stuff and don’t see any reason to not like the whole thing. Kinect is basically the ultimate motion device you don’t have to put in your hands and dedicated servers is big plus also. Its not SUPER exciting but I can’t find anything with PS4 that’s more exciting that’s for damn sure.
People are just shit scared of new shit, but as the systems release theUS and Euro markets will warm up to it all.
Well, I think youve missed a lot of news from sony. I wish both would do well, but it really doesnt seem like thats gonna happen.
P.S. I think the Xbox One wont do well because of the image people have of it and M$. It has a bad image right now. Things could change and Im all for that but it doesnt look good, imo. From everywhere I read it seems mostly like the dedicated xbox fans are the ones most into XBox One. Thats not really good, imo.
