Scored a KEM strike tonight on free fall Dom. 35-1…this was the easiest “Nuke” I ever earned. took the end of MW2 to get one in there and midway through MW3 for a MOAB.
Am I classified as a scrub if I’ve never gotten a nuke/swarm/moab? I’ve been 1 kill away from a nuke countless times but I’ve never been close to a swarm or moab.
In BO2 Play hardcore objective game types, need less ammo for kills and you get more points doing the objective than kills alone.
Eg Killconfirm, 6 kills 7 tags to get VSAT, 4 more kills 3 tags to get swarm. Don’t activate swarm till you almost get your next vsat. Then you have a vicious cycle of killstreaks, and a lot of unhappy players.
…so I’m absolutely terrible at this game. Primarily for 3 reasons:
Can’t hear footsteps for the life of me even though I’ve got surround sound speakers hooked up.
I’m terrible with control pads, keyboard and mouse being my preferred control of choice. Having said that I don’t think I’m THAT bad with pads, just definitely slightly below average.
And because I live in Australia and it seems that ALL of my matches are super laggy. I get killed when behind walls, but I watch the enemy kill cams and I never even make it to the wall, I empty 3-7 shots on a close range enemy in a twitch reaction contest, I die and in the kill cam it doesn’t show me shooting any shots, or only 1 or 2 and many times off target because I got my gun flicked, which I didn’t even know until I watched the kill cam.
So my questions are:
What is map awareness in general? I know what it is, but I’m thinking that I’m missing something… Like what should I be looking to learn when playing maps for the first time? I can see general choke points/areas of contention/don’t be caught dead running through here willy nilly places and stuff but I don’t know how to turn that knowledge into kills.
Are there any good tutorials for using sound in game? I see sooo many players. Using it against me, easily.but then these players sneak up on me easily and I can’t hear them… And they don’t have dead silence on cause I can hear them in the kill cams…
When I watch the “good” players play the game in videos and stuff… It just seems like they are constantly shooting people with no contention… Ie shooting people that aren’t even looking at them/in the sides or in the backs… But no matter how sneaky I try and be, no matter how much I crawl/creep/camp or hide I RARELY get no contest kills or even no contest looks at people. I’m always trying to shoot someone that has their crosshairs on me as well.
It seems to me that to be good in these types of games… Crosshair on crosshairs combat is to be kept to a minimum… But I’m still confused as far as how to do that… Any tips from the good players in here on how to do some of these things?
Best tip is to move somewhere that isnt Australia. No matter how well you know maps, or how good your situational awareness is, you cant fight somebody who kills you from the future.
Yeah, I just played some hardcore matches (no HUD) and it’s much more what I’m used to. I’ve never really liked using maps in games like these and generally think it takes away from the strategic aspect of play… suffice it to say that I did much better with no HUD on… I could sneak around and get kills and then sneak out like a true ghost without minimap giving me away… Map awareness seemed to mean much more and be the same as what I remember, also it was cool that there was no kill cam giving me away to my opponents and vice versa.
My only problem is the higher damage on the whole and less players.
Map knowledge is key, like you mentioned stuff like choke points, camping spots, dark areas. Most helpful is learning map flow, routes and spawn points. This only comes through experience, for example, learn what routes get the most traffic, this is great for getting lots of kills but you also run the risk of being overwhelmed by multiple enemies.
I always prefer to flank my enemy rather than go head on, so I prefer to take routes with less risk ie less traffic, more cover or look onto high traffic areas. You should learn how long it takes for an enemy to get to a certain part of the map from spawn, know where your team mates are and when they are in trouble, and don’t chase every kill. This will also help you make better decisions when to reload and call in killstreaks, you’ll be able to build a map in you mind with enemy positions. After that you’ll need to work on your reflexes, aiming and drawing out enemies and fooling them into doing actions (like chase you, aim in the wrong direction, get blown up by cars or barrels etc).
Drift0r does provide good info but he’d be better if he kept his opinion and unrelated thoughts out of his gun analysis vids. Stuff like that is what separates professionals from wannabes.
He and many other youtube guys all come off sounding and doing the same thing.
Honestly I appreciate, the opinions in the analysis. Because I prefer that spoken from experience. That makes me more willing to try stuff out for myself to really get an understanding of what they see in it.
Otherwise I’m like okay that works, and I don’t really want to look into it.
