The reason why we used red and white is because the case is red and white. We were trying to keep the color theme consistent.
Hi guys, first time poster here.
Just got my stick and busy trying to design some decent artwork for it. After browsing through countless pages for inspiration, I’ve come up with the following. Of course I’m not pro by any means so that’s why the character outlines aren’t perfect.
Having trouble deciding which one to use, and looking for any advice/tips on what else I can do with them. I probably prefer #1 the most, and considering adding a grungy sort of effect on top of Unit 2, but that’s about the only idea I have. It’s taken quite a while just to get to this stage, I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve changed the design, and appreciate any help.
Oh and if it helps to visualize, I’m using Art’s TEK case, smoke bubble balltop, first 6 buttons are white (not see through), last 2 are black (also solid).

ok i see now, well you might want to make the background image pop out a lil’more cause i didnt see on the first look over.
I’m inclined to say #2 or #3. I’d lean more toward #3 without the middle girl (at least in the current position, she’s awkwardly placed and the joystick is going through one of her tits). In any case, remove the black stroke from the girl on the left, and work on cutting her hair out so it looks more natural.
Boy that hair gave me headaches. The original pic is in that painted style so for a beginner it’s really hard to separate it. Plus the background colors in the worse looking areas are very similar and blended into those parts of her hair. I’ll maybe try some smudging to see if it helps. The black line I had to use because despite my best efforts to smooth out the edges it wasn’t looking very good, but I’m not a fan of it either so I’ll remove it and see what can be done.
As for #3, I hear ya, will see what it looks like with one girl cut out. I think I’ll actually take Asuka out and flip Rei over, I’ve got another plain pic of the two of them for bottom art so it makes sense to use that same motif throughout.

I would try to cut out the hair where its flaring out like that, you got enough of a defiant line to where you can separate it from the rest of the hair to make it look as if its all flowing downward. With the hair in the back i would cut off the small part of it sticking out and play around with the blone stam to give it the look of the hair is going behind her.
I love what you did with the second one, mainly because I’m a fan of the series I love the juxtaposition between Rei and Asuka. But I feel if you’re going to make Asuka the main theme it’s Asuka or nothing. I particularly liked the first stick art and yeah the hair looks a little goofy. Reminds me why I didn’t pick one of the Psylocke pictures I wanted to use on one of the pieces I made, it just looked awkward in the end.

This fightstick is based on Sam and Max. I was VERY limited on materials as there are rarely any good pics of Sam and max, so most of this stuff was ripped from this website

lol the police badge on the top right corner had no upper right half… When I ripped it, it had no upper right part of it so I spend 30 mins painting and Dodge/burning it.
Most of the other stuff like photographs, I used screenshots. The “Hello, from Rapa Nui” postcard was made from scratch 
So most of my pics were from the game…
this (postcard) took 1.5 hours to make…

Clean up the lines for the background image and that would be it for me cause it seems u have it the way u already want it.
looks really good as is, my only suggestion would be to move the “FREELANCE POLICE SAM & MAX” logo from the right to the left cause i could barely see the Freelance Police part on the right so it would be more reasonable to be on the left to be able to see it more clearly.

Don’t let any of these hooligans fool you, you DEFINITELY captured the spirit of Sam & Max that stick is awesome. Only thing I would change is what Glitch already pointed out.

I don’t know how to critique something you’re dead-set on really, just remove the extra lines they detract from the art if you’re going for a cartoon style, clear defined lines usually is the best way to go about it.

@BoneSaw1: I hear ya regarding cutting out the hair, I can see the definitive line you speak of, so I’ll spend some time with it during the course of the day to try and clean it up a bit.
@SoothSayer: Since as far as I can remember I’ve always had a soft spot for Asuka, but I’m also indifferent as to whether she’s the central theme of the stick. I agree with what you say though, and have a few changes to make so I’ll post those when it’s done
I’ll probably end up printing all 3 and just swap and change as I feel lol. The changes suggested have just made all 3 more appealing :p.

Nah not you, Bunchies had a design he had drawn up by his artist friend I was referring to that.
@SurrealTiggi: the middle one was definitely my favorite too, although the hair also bothered me. Asuka was also my favorite from that series
By the way I’m pretty sure you asked for someone to draw up a Blue Mary stick for you, do you still want one? I could work on it tomorrow for you?
