If you think I have a bad hosting rep, I challenge you to post anything on here which proves that. Other than that, I’ve ran tournaments for years and never had a complaint. I’m a real cool guy, and Focus Cancel is going to be a success.
I was at West Chester a few weeks ago, and I had a good time with everyone there. I’m only here to spread the love, not hate.
I love fighting games, and I’m trying to do my part for the community by running a tournament at a very nice hotel.
What you have to consider is that most Fighting game players have a bad taste in their mouths when they hear, think or even consider the words “John” “Madden” and “Football”, much less when spoken in unison. Playing fighting games is far more technical and when someone who runs Madden tournaments runs a Fighting game Tournament it’s almost like an insult. “I run madden tournaments, but I also run tournaments for the games you play, even though I know nothing about them really and have no idea what Im talking about 95% of the time”. It’s not something you can just start doing and assume you’ll do well.
The positive outlook is nice and all but you lack a greater understanding of what you’re attempting, once again, insulting the people you’re trying to entice. I don’t know about you, but when I think Madden, I think Halo and when I think Halo I start picturing the bottom rungs of gamer society. People who play what they’re told to play. Hell, Madden players are talked into buying the SAME GAME every year for $60+. Doesn’t seem like something a smart person would do once a year which is why non-madden players are so negative when it comes to madden.
Also, you didn’t so much as introduce yourself to me at Them vs. Us after all that talk about wanting to team up for tournaments and how the person from your April tourney got free entry (via you) to TvU. I didn’t even know you were there until I looked at all the registration sheets AFTER the tournament.
So, if you want your chance, you’ll have to do a few things. First, don’t be a dick to people you A.) don’t know and B.) have absolutely no right to be a dick to. If your rep on the boards is red, people will be… less than inspiRED to come to your events. Being a dick is earned and eventually expected. Also, your join date is January 09, so most people are going to assume you’re nothing more than a noob looking to corner a market that has NOTHING to do with them. You haven’t earned that nor do you deserve it. I have known most of these people for years and years and years. Organizers like Ghaleon and Fugee have earned that respect after years of doing this (and doing it right, fyi) and the other people in the Midwest that run tournies are much the same. These people are my friends and I love most of them. You’re just some guy who a few people in Columbus might know. EARN the right to do what you want to do but don’t just assume you’ll succeed. If you piss too many people off, they just wont come at all, trust me. I know a thing or two about pissing people off.
So, you’ve got your chance. Don’t blow it. This community might blackball you forever if you piss them off.
Weren’t you the gentleman that asked Indy and I if you could run a Soul Calibur tourney at Naptown Clash? We prepared to allow this and you just seemed to disappear from the thread several weeks before the tourney. I believe you even commented to one of us about being more professional because we didn’t respond to one of your questions swiftly enough yet you never told us that you were no longer trying to make SC happen when the time came.

Madden is a cash cow. They crap the same game out every year and the sheep continue to spend their money on something they already have. I tried to explain this to a friend that is a Madden fan and he wasn’t trying to hear that. He said there are a lot of differences in each one and RPG fans and stuff dont’t know what they’re talking about. WE ALL KNOW its the SAME GAME lol. Oh well. EA apparently knows how to make their money just like these shitty rappers on the radio… cough cough T-Pain cough cough Lil Wayne… cough cough 90% of the industry.
I don’t know who this dude is thats hosting this tournament but due to the game selection and what people are saying about him, I sure as hell aint going. I’m a CvS2 man. That game has a small ass fan base and is NEVER in tournaments so I can look past that. But when you alienate the Dayton Family by taking away Third Strike, that just grinds my gears. Me being apart of the Dayton Extended Family, I can’t participate in this event.
If a tourney doesn’t have 3s, it better have HNK. If it doesn’t have either then Esther Baxter will be flown in via jet pack for me to have a private conversation with.
Never bothered me that Paul (hooters tourney) said he runs Madden tournies – if you’re getting anything together for gamers that’s a nice thing. Paul said he wasn’t an expert in fighters or anything and welcomed pretty much all the suggestions players gave him, so that to me counts a lot more than what his current experience level might or might not be.
Ha I got the adoption papers all ready to be signed. Now if something happens to where someone says “Are you deaf?” to me, I’ll be like “Yeah I’m DEF, Dayton Extended Family BITCH!!!”

Matt- I figured out how to do that combo with the multiple c.FP’s with Thouther. I can only do it about 1/2 of the time and varies a little between characters but it’s still classic. 16 hard punches in a row. So easy once you get positioned right.
