Does more play styles make a better fighting game? Some reason ive had a lot more fun playing mvc1 then mvc2. The thing is when you play vs Mag you already know what he is going to do, same with Cable. Sent and Storm can be a little more unpredictable.
Red venom is a lot harder to use then mag also, takes a lot more damage. Mags set ups to infinite are a lot easier then red venom also, red venom also is a lot harder to use, but for some reason hes funner then mags.
RVs inf once youre in the corner (the jhp jhk one) is realllly hard to mess up once you have it down. Rom can slip up any second just from a wrong slide.
Rv dies from one combo but then again mags is no sentinel.
Push block? Though push blocking is strange in mvc1. Red venom is more a fair character though since he just dies in 1 combo.
A thing has been bothering me is Viscant’s biased opinion about mvc1. It sounds like he didn’t even enjoy the game at all. Well of course if you don’t enjoy something you are going to give your biased opinion about it. Of course if you don’t like something you only show the negative things about it. Like if I went up to someone who hates mvc2 and ask him is opinion about it, of course hes going to tell me how much it sucks. Though I would have liked to here from other top players who liked mvc1 to give their opinion about it.
The fact is there was tournaments for Xmen vs SF, and MvC1, and even marvel super heroes war of the gems, and people just didn’t care about MSH vs SF cause that game was true trash.
its kind of hard to get people to play mvc1, when mvc2 was out. And MvC2 isnt even at evo anymore since UMVC3 is out. People only want to play what is new
true, but you can find people. sometimes you just gotta ask. josh360 and them still play older vs games so you can probably catch them on twitter and ask for a session. there are always people in the mvc1 room on ggpo (although they are mostly keyboard warriors. but if thats fine, theyre there), and a varying grip of people in the xvsf room. arturo probably will run online mvc1 if you asked him. like the last thread i put myself out there for anyone who wants to play mvc1 or xvsf, but no one ever replies.
i pretty much have one buddy i play ggpo stuff with and thats all i need at the very least, so find at least one person that will play with you and get better with you, and enjoy some old school Vs games. the getting better together part can be hard. a lot of niggas aint built for this fighting game shit and wont grow with you, but some will. i guess it also helps that im not the biggest fan of umvc3 and do not like practicing or playing it. although i do love playing some dante and doom, but thats about it
Cota makes zero sense as a whole.
MSH isn’t like XSF or MvC where it’s whoever gets the first hit wins…
It’s whoever the fuck gets the first attack out, blocked or hit wins… You see Wolverine? That motherfucker starts his s.lk, s.mp xx d rushdown shit, NOTHING you can do… NOTHING. Blocked or not… If he’s got higher life, he can keep you blocking and win by time out. Because if you touch a fucking button or hit anything but back, you get hit. Ironman airdash bullshit is the same shit in that… And don’t even get me started on Shuma… Fuck that game.
the fact is mvc1 tournament scene was bigger then xmen vs sf, msh, and Cota. And Cota is broken game anyway. And there was no tournament scene for MSH vs SF cause that game really sucked, everyone picked wolv and omega red, or wolv and black heart.
Spiderdan talked about MSH and reading his post years ago, MSH is one of the most balanced fighting games ever.
At the time B4 was around everyone was playing MvC2 cause it was new. I think at that time if mvc2 wasnt out, people would have played mvc1 a lot more. There are a lot worse capcom fighting games then MvC1 like CvS1
MvC1 was the first game I played on a national/international level and the first game I truly loved. I cut class in high school to play that game. I drove hundreds of miles, took buses for hundreds of miles and spent weekends in hotel rooms with MrWizard after flying thousands of miles for that game. I probably wrote over 100,000 words on usenet and IRC about that game. The reason people knew who I was in the early days was because of that game. I made friends I still have to this day through that game. I literally made my name on that before people knew me for deviancy, purity, leather or MvC3. It’s probably the reason I’m still here right now playing video games and talking about them at 33 instead of talking about boats or experimental literature or fly fishing.
Doesn’t mean it was a good game. Because it wasn’t.
Lots of people play games they know are fundamentally flawed and actually became less enjoyable the more you played it and explored it. It also had the misfortune of getting worse while a better game was right there waiting to be explored.
