Bridge sway loses to jumping back or throw. don’t jump straight up though, swap upper is pretty nasty.
But yeah, don’t let Gai get close and you’re good. Once he’s in range of forward+D, you’re in trouble.

Yeah that sway move is what really got me. What I was going to do was put in Silber in against you start that, but I kept messing up his reversal. I think that would be a good counter match. If not, just start Jazu like I always do.
I don’t think Vanessa would do too to hot at all unless I suddenly developed some crazy yomi sense with the qcb+ follow-ups and stuff.
Some new KOF XI vids, lots of high level Vanessa play in there

Thanks for the Vanessa vids, KK.
Oh those are some great Nessa vids. Thank you.
Here’s a couple more vids, they’re a bit older but still good
I got KOFXI a long time ago when it first came out on the JP PS2. I had no one that played in my area, so I sort of forgot about it. Well, it’s years later since it came out and I still have no one to play with, but it’s my favorite KOF so I still want to learn how to play. This is the first KOF that Im actually trying to get good at. I found those beginners guides to KOF on youtube and those really helped.
Can anyone give me some pointers on how to use Kasumi? and what are some good teammates to go along with her? I picked K and Vanessa, but I don’t know if those are good choices.
Unfortunately, Kasumi is low tier in XI. She doesn’t have that much going for her, unlike her NESTS versions.
Her waves are too slow to control space, and XI is too quick and offense oriented for zoning to work with most characters.
Her counters don’t really work either…even if you do occasionally connect the risk is too heavy because the damage sucks and if you whiff you’re eating a combo from 20% all the way up to 40% or more with no meter if somebody like Kula, Ralf, Maxima, etc. is involved.
Pretty much her only way of winning is to consistently hit the QCB+P rekkas (which were slightly nerfed damage wise) or juggles off of her command grab combos (and her command grab was HEAVILY nerfed in range and damage).
Her projectile wave super is pointless. The only reason to use any super meter with her is her command grab DM after the occasional (qcb+P, qcb+P, qcb+P, qcb+K) mix-up.
Sad, but basically her waves and counters are worthless, and her command grab juggle is too nerfed, negating most of what makes Kasumi.
As for partners, well, you need somebody who covers her weaknesses well (which is most everything). Kasumi makes a decent battery if she can hit her rekkas, so you can pair her with someone who needs meter. Vanessa isn’t a good choice. She has most of the same weaknesses as Kasumi, and there’s not much reason to use Vanessa unless you’re setting up her infinite, and K’ and Kasumi don’t really have the best set-ups to help her.
K’ is a very solid character and always a good choice. He can use meter a lot, so a battery helps him. Other than tier-whoring the top characters, I would say a good replacement for Vanessa if you like the quick, stylish female characters would be Jenet, Malin, or Yuri.
Man, sad to hear that Kasumi sucks. I’ll still use her, though. It would be a different story if this game wasn’t team oriented.
Thanks for the tips. I think I’ll use Yuri in place of Vanessa. She’s one of the shotos of the game, right? Should be a good starting off point for me to get used to the game.
Pretty sure the tier list takes into account the fact the game is tier-oriented.
Yes, but, there’s other people on my team to make up for her not as being good.
Oh, wow. She’s worse than I thought. She’s bottom tier. I thought she was C or B.
stop worrying about tiers… in XI if u don’t “S” tier KGO or at least the “A” tier group u r gonna have problems vs. those characters…
unless u r that damn good where u can beat KGO with someone like ramon… to just play the game casually characters don’t matter… venessa is actually quite good given u put A LOT of work into mixing up her strings… u more work u put in the harder she is to be caught…
kasumi isn’t as horrible as u think she is… her LDM is very scary… and as for K’ …he is good… very strong… if u actually wanna pick a profitable team Kim/Kyo/Duck/Eiji/Clark/Maxima and of course any of KGO would be a good choice…
yuri btw isn’t the best shoto type character u wanna pick… there r far better ones… btw u could give Mai a try also… shes quite a lot of fun…
After staring at the tier list in the OP, I made a random one. I support a lot of my placements though so I wanna get some debates going.
SS - Gato (L), Kula (L), Eiji, Oswald (L)
S - Duck [2p], Duolon (L), Kyo, EX Kyo, Duck [1p]
A - Kim (L), Geese, Malin (L), Gai, Clark, Elizabeth (L), K’ (L), Yuri, Ralf, Adelheid (L), Vanessa (L)
B - Kensou, Ryo, Jyazu, Terry (L), Silber, Maxima, Shingo, Athena (L), Jenet, Mr.Big (L), Shen, Tizoc (L), Hotaru, Mai
C - Benimaru, Robert, Ash (L), Ramon, Whip, Iori, Hayate, Mary
D - Kasumi, King, Tung (L), Momoko
There are fews chars on the list I’m unsure of, due to lack of knowledge/footage, but I like this one way more than the one in the OP.
I’m not disagreeing with your list; but please explain why Silber is D tier. Because there is no damn way Silber is worse than Kasumi or Athena.
No way in hell man.
EDIT: You placed him below fucking Hayate. Naw, fuck that shit.
I have no problem with you or any1 disagreeing. I’m trying to make a list that could possibly be accepted as the U.S. Tier List, just need thoughts from others.
Silber is one of the chars I lack knowledge of. And worse of all, you being the 5th person saying I should put him higher. But at the same time no one is telling me why or giving me footage.
His A pokes are nice (though a tad slow), not sure of the priority of f+A. Charge moves may be powerful, but aren’t reliable. Supers are pretty good, the counter is perfect though (move earns a 10/10). LDM is very strong, but not as easy to set up as Ozzy’s. Sounds relatively mediocre so far, the best I could do is put him in C with that in mind and then some.
Also are you implying that Kasumi is a bad char?
One char I want to put slightly higher is Athena, even without Leader I wanna put her in lower mid. One char I wanna drop lower is Jyazu, not sure why, but he doesn’t feel upper mid to me.
Chars I need some feedback on are: Silber (seriously people, give me some stuff, I’ve seen/heard to little of this guy and every1 wants him higher), Kensou, Beni, and Robert.
Silber points:
Instant guard crush into LDM=insane.
Sets up some of the most fucked up combos with his ranbu super.
That particular super has invincibility at start up.
Insane crossup ability.
Hard knockdown into stomp/super=LOLDAMAGE!.
Sudden flying kick trades for huge damage+ on clean hit it sets up that stupid jumping C guessing game that usually ends up leading to stomp super if they guess wrong on which way to block.
Evil counter super.
Can’t roll around him when he has meter.
Dizzies people FAST.
Good in any spot on the team.
Rough and dirty is Silber’s game.
There we go, only 2 of those I knew already (KD->super, counter super, but I will argue that the meterless counter is actually better, though not as much damage, but free KD)
Now with all that in mind does he go to upper or lower mid, and who in lower is somewhat worth dropping to C? (hopes no one says Hotaru)
http://www.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=185810&p=8662645&viewfull=1#post8662645 - Shiki’s post earlier today about Kasumi. I agree 100%
This is one of those games where it’s hard to drop people lower because everyone has something very good that they can do.
Interesting tierlist…however, I’m afraid I have to disagree a lot.
A lot of people tend to underestimate Silber, he’s probably the most misunderstood character after Hayate, but enough has been said about that.
I’m really surprised to see Kensou put so low. I’ve never seen anyone put him lower than B (or higher than B).
My tierlist, revised from earlier in the thread:
S+ ~ Kula(L+1), EX Kyo,
S-tier ~ Gato(L+1), Oswald(L+1)
A+ ~ Eiji, Geese, Duck (2P)
A-tier ~Clark, Duck, Jyazu, K’(L+1), Kim, Kyo, Maxima, Big
B+ ~ Ryo, Gai, Jenet, Kensou
B-tier ~Ralf, Shen, Adelheid(L+1), Ash(L+1), Benimaru(L+1), Duo Lon(L+2), Iori, Mai, Silber, Terry, Yuri
C+ ~ Elizabeth (L+1), Hayate, Hotaru, Malin(L+1), Tizoc, Vanessa(L+1), Whip
C-tier ~ King, Mary(L+1), Ramon, Robert, Shingo (L+1)
D+ ~ Tung, Athena (L+2)
D-tier ~ Kasumi, Momoko
***L+# means the character rises by # rank(s) when made Leader. So Athena made leader would go from D+ to B+. Gato made leader becomes SS.
Character ranks:
SS–Monstrously powerful and cheesy; have the potential to wipe whole teams out. Should be feared. Requires heavy planning and better skill in order for lower tier characters to overcome matchups. Barely beatable with B tier. C tier or lower characters have almost no chance.
S–Overpowered, but can still beaten with a lot of work. Solid characters who have a little added BS or cheesy feature. Barely beatable with C tier. D tier characters have almost no chance.
A–Very solid characters who lack a little of the extra cheese or BS that S-rank characters have, or characters who may have weaknesses but excel very well in other areas to make up for it. C tier or lower characters have to work hard against them, but still beatable
B–Nearly solid characters who have 1 or 2 glaring flaws that keep them from advancing higher. Middle road for XI. Most have some hidden potential that master players will be able to bring out so that they can hang with A-tier or higher characters. Beatable by anybody, and have to potential to beat anybody as well.
C-Have several glaring flaws, but a few good points. As high level play consists mostly of A-tier and above, C-tier is very rarely seen in tournaments.
D-Have virtually no redeeming qualities, or too many massive flaws to overcome a few good points. Almost never seen in high-level play, or casuals, either.
