More or less, plus, he’s more recognizable, popular and even coined his own catch-phrase.
“HI-…HIDEBU!!!” BLARMPH!
Honestly, the only other Nanto Gosha dude who’s really a viable character is Jyuuza; Hyui of the Wind and Shuren of the Flame, cool as they are, really aren’t anything beyond what Rei already is. And do we really just want a bunch of Rei-clones in this game? I would think not.
As for Ol Dirty Rihaku of the Waves/Sea? I don’t see anything outstanding about him either. If they were that inclined to put in an old man, there’s a number of others who would be cooler to see, such as Ken and the boys’ own Master (preferably when he was younger and spry).
Far as I’m concerned though, Shuu and Jyuuza are both the “must-haves”, if they were going to add in more characters (especially Shuu, who should have been in the FIRST place). Both have distinct fighting styles that would make them stand out, and both are decently popular characters. Make Jyuuza into a KOF Ramon type “fast grappler”, while Shuu could be made into some wild mixture between Bob Wilson and Kim Kaphwan (RBFF versions).
If I could add in one more? Put in another “bit” character, like the Colonel, Jackal (with Devil Rebirth aiding him, like Jin with Blodia!), Amoeba, or Wiegel, the Head Master of Cassandra (or maybe Fuuga and Raiga if they wanted another good guy/token black guy in the roster). Again, all distinctive personalities that could make for interesting fighting styles, which is what Arc Systems seems to capitalize on.
Co-Sign for Wingul(However you spell his name). His style was cool and so was his voice. Ambia is whatever…I can’t really see him doing anything but weaker versions of Toki’s moves. Jackal + Devil Rebirth sounds cool.
Amoeba? I would imagine him as being a sort of Dan/Zappa combo. He would some what fight like Toki, but would really suck it up trying, as well as (of course!) not being able to do the teleports and counters! What I think would make Amoeba all the worthwhile, is if he could be able to give himself random “power-ups” by pressing his pressure points, which could do anything from giving him critical hits, super armor, heightened life regen, or may just blow up in his face and make him lose some life, among others. :wgrin: Like with Zappa, he really shouldn’t be a character that you can just count on to work for your 100% of the time, but if you do some how get a random effect that enables you to just knock off 25-50% of your opponent’s life at once, winning you the match, you’ll look like a hero!
As for Kiba Dai-oh? I have a hard time picturing anything beyond “Heavy Class that can turn on Hyper Armor, plus can just cause all sorts of random crap on the screen by spamming his children”. Mr. Heart with something between MvC2-Jill and Yuda Assists? Sounds like the makings of an unbalanced character, in my eyes…
I’m watching HnK right now.I’m liking the prison warden(He fought using whips). He could fight somewhat like Axl-Low with a bunch of launch and grab techniques.
What’s the deal with the red sai? do you have to use super meter to stock them? and this breaks the star limit by starting with a throw, right?
Still haven’t played the game but hoping to get hella into the PS2 version. Also not sure if this has been said already but in one of the modes (history I think) you get to watch battles from the TV show recreated in the game.
Raoh can store up to three “charges” using 214+A. These charges power-up certain specials (like the sai you mentioned) and some normals (crouching D for example).
And yes, the command grab (B+D) takes up a star, and can lead to combos that break the 3-star limit in many cases.
True, but at least, for a majority of cases, the game’s characters weren’t made broken from the get-go, the players deduced how to do that for themselves.
Making a character that just seemingly ooze “brokeness” from the drawing board is another thing altogether.
…That would be the aforementioned Wiegel I was talking about specifically.
But yeah, I would imagine him more as a “grappler with more range”. I mean, that one technique he used where he basically props himself up with his beefed up arm practically screams something similar to Potemkin’s OverDrive that has a similar attribute.
And of course, his Fatal KO should be something that involves knocking his opponent into a specially marked grave, just for them.
That’d be awesome.I also thought about Fuga and Raiga, but it would be difficult to implement both of them into the game and not make it awkward,so I would rule them out.I also thought alot about Joker.Soembody that fights using cards. His fatal ko would be to throw 53 cards at his enemy(All regular 52 cards plus the joker).
F & R are two of my fave “bit chars” in the series. If there was a way to work 'em in (I say, a SFA Gen “fighting style switch!” approach could work), I would definitely hope they’d take it. Still, they’re probably not nearly popular enough to be considered on their own.
As for Joker? He’s in a rather interesting boat, as he’s an “Anime-only” character. When it comes down to it, I’m sure Buronson and Tetsuo Hara (as well as manga faithfuls) would probably prefer ASW to focus on their original manga creations, as opposed to anime extras that were often hit or miss (Joker was cool…the Nanto Bell guy and Madame Patra? Not so much…).
Still, I guess anything is possible. One of Mamiya’s alternate color palettes is practically a spitting image of Karen, so who knows…
Fun Fact: Back in the day there was an HnK fighter with chars from from HnK and HnK2(Falco, Jueki, and Kaioh). I wonder if they’ll stick Kaioh in the sequel(if there will even be one) and make him the boss.
Perhaps the only ways that I disagree with that list is when it comes to Jyuuza and Jagi. Jyuuza was described as being easily on Raoh’s level (damn fool stole his horse! ^_^), and hung with Raoh for their fight quite well. In my eyes, that would put Jyuuza at the same “tier” as Souther and Toki (who Raoh also respected). That would also put him in a different league, as opposed to the likes of Rei, Shin, Juda and, especially, Jagi.
Jagi? As much I love the guy, I would still probably put him in the “upper bottom” tier with the likes of Amoeba and Wiegel. The sap really didn’t have any real fighting ability to show, and he would be easily outclassed by any other of the characters listed in the particular group that he’s listed alongside with currently. Hell, if Shin actually just sliced Jagi to ribbons instead of letting him play devil’s advocate and fill his mind with “EVIL!!!”, Jagi would’ve been wormfood a whole year or so earlier before Ken got around to doing the job.
