thats why you need to hit a little deeper to gaurantee the S.hk actually combos. Any character with a decent reversal can hurt you bad for throwing it out
I watched your vid…may I ask why you opt to use more neutral jump.HK rather than neutral jump.HP?.. The range is really a big difference…I almost ALWAYS use n.hp…to me its the best zoning tool…and I think you got to mix up your jump in …you always do jump in >> c.mk >> HHS… mix it up with tick >> Oicho throw
or HHS FADC Oicho throw
Work on your cross up defense…and overall defense…i see you try to anti-air too much with standing normals which don’t work very well…
Once you block the first attack of Abel’s rekka…everything else is punishable I believe…try ex-headbutt after u block first attack…if u don’t have charge… hold up while blocking the first…if he goes for throw or command throw or second string…he’ll whiff …and I punish on my way down
yeah it was really nice to meet everyone.
i played pretty poorly that day. it didn’t help that our pool was at like 8pm or something but we all were waiting around since noon.
honda actually did pretty good in pools. i think mike ross, art, cen, and maybe one other honda qualified for semis. after that though it was all down hill. do you by chance know who ross and cen lost to?
are you sure about this? ex hb recovers faster than jab hb and is actually the safest one.
no body can reverse you during a combo. that’s the definition of a combo.
if you are getting hit when you’re doing your s.hk, it means you didn’t combo it.
you either did it too late, or your hhs finished out of range for you to complete the combo. you have to know the correct range when hhs hits to know whether you can combo the s.hk or not.
100% sure. i should specify that the fei player needs ex meter for ex rekka reversal from ex headbutt. ex rekkas have 7 frame startup, and the range is just far enough to reach after ex headbutt which has 8 frame recovery.
however, i cant remember why fei cant punnish jab headbutts. i want to say it was because though the jab headbutt had longer recovery, it also had more pushback, keeping fei just out of the range of the first ex rekka hitting.
however, i will confirm in a moment, cuz i dont want to discredit myself with false info
EDIT: jab headbutts are punnishable by ex rekka, and jab rekka if you do them too deep. max range lp headbutt is completely safe due to more pushback. just inside max range, jab headbutt is punnishable from a standing block by ex rekka. ex headbutt is always punnishable by ex rekka
i am almost positive that fei can punish jab hb, might need to stand block it? idk but really pretty sure he can
Only by ex-rekka.
I don’t see how it is 7-3 for Honda…Fei can punish almost all of Honda’s attacks and jumpins. I’d say this match up is 6-4 in favor for Fei. If Honda wants to come close and st. HK, just rekka him, CW him or Focus attack him. What else can he do now? The only thing he can do is out turtle the Fei player and hope that the Fei player makes a mistake…oddly enough, I always fall for it even when I have the life lead. GRRRR.
Who is the best Fei online? I’ll throw down with em.
i got 50 bucks on mike ross!
Come up against a few good ones recently.
Seems to be a real pain if he knows what he’s doing.
If you get hit by a up fireball then he can juggle into his horizontal DP thing. - So don’t get hit.
Some will like to do their command focus on jump ins. - So empty jump and Oichio that poo if you really really have to jump in, ie over an obvious lp fireball.
If you stand next to them on wake up they tend to think they have some sort of wack New Jersey wotsit. - Chop or cl.hp soon sorts that.
The back throw into ultra is truly a pain. - Make sure your teching is up to snuff, back dash if he’s lurking after knockdown etc.
But the majority of the frustration in this match for me comes from the fireball trap.
Jump in from full screen no closer.
They will expect you to jump once you get to half screen and mostly up fireball.
So either sit there and headbutt or move in from there just don’t jump unless you are confident an up/EX fireball isn’t coming.
But as with any fireball spammer if you have the lead sit back, new jersey the fireballs and wait for him to make another mistake don’t play his fireball zone thats what he wants.
As always this is far from tournament level advice just what i’d scribble on the back of a cigarette packet if i could ever find a pen.
tsua was pretty damn good. Only fei player that ever smoked me uber hardcore…but then again, he was like…the 3rd fei i have ever faced. Also, i’m not great any way, so who knows how good he actually is
send a friend request to hotdawg. his xbl is tsua
he worked my honda this morning, but he’s a much better player than i am, and my honda game is still pretty young. list those results. im sure you can handle him
he’s got like 60k gp, which is tops for american fei’s online. theres one guy with more, but i think hes in france
EDIT: i just messaged him from my friends list to tell him you wanted a fight, so he’ll be looking for you
this should be epic!
Lights up the Cigar…
I will gladly take an ass-whooping if it comes down to that. I want to see a ST style fei with mad poke pressure and me eating mouthfuls of fists.
I play a pretty good fei from my area-
I even used to play fei myself. One of the biggest changes from the patch was that fei’s chickenwing (wheel kick) start up speed has been slowed down significantly (except for EX version). Standing fierce/low or standing strong will stuff it during startup. Because of the slow start up chicken wing is very easy to stuff (you’ll see fei hop a little during the startup of the chickenwing).
Ex headbutt to get fei the fuck off.
And of course never used strong/fierce headbutt, punishable by rekkas.
Standing fierce is your friend in this matchup.
just wanted to share a few tips from games with a friend who i play with almost every day who mains sagat and rog.
Vs Sagat
Early j.rh will trade or beat sagat’s st.rh. Same with his f.rh but it will beat that a lot more. Press rh just before the apex of your jump. The timing is a little strange, somewhere between using it as a normal jump in attack and doing instant jump back rh on a waking gief.
If it hits, there’s your HHS combo. If it trades, i try rh buttslam as sagat will 9 times out of 10 go for a low tiger shot to put you back in the trap. The trade will push you back to a distance where rh buttslam will cross up. Use with caution, never do this more than once a match. A high tiger or focus into combo is coming next time. Just an option rather than blocking and being pushed back once again.
I know you shouldnt be jumping in but to get in at all, sometimes you have to predict a fireball and get stuck in. As long as you don’t get greedy and predictable, fireballs should be not seen as a hindrance, but as an opening to attack. If you played ST as honda, you should already be somewhat skilled in the art of noticing patterns of fireball traps. Thankfully, new jerseying over fireballs is a lot easier this time around.
Also, watch your st.rh in this match. If you go to training mode and try and hit sagat’s leg, honda’s foot passes right through! Supposedly, it’s not to do with honda’s hitbox but sagat’s. The shin of his front leg down has a stray hit box. Highly unfair considering his retard kick (st.rh) but just be careful. Has led to me eating nasty damage when it whiffs.
VS Balrog
We all know what stuffs what now but 1 thing i havent seen people doing is cr.mk > hb on a dash punching Rog. It’s very simple to do on reaction and I personally feel a lot more comfortable doing this than attempting a cr.jab > HHS combo. Plus i think the cr.mk may lower honda’s hitbox a bit, giving you some leeway on connecting it. Naturally be careful of EX, although ive seen it beat EX overhead if done fast enough for some nice counter damage.
Those cr.mk>HHS demons out there, go nuts. Im not quite there yet, so the headbutt option is the way to go for me, or anyone else not comfortable with doing on on reaction to a dash punch.
After eating a few of these, Rog will turtle up AND be behind on life. Not a good place for him, considering you’ve just bagged youself some EX along the way. Not bad considering i used to just simply cr.jab him out of it.
As with blanka, gief, chun li and a few others, ex buttslam is a great anti air where ex hb would normally lose.
In addition to the “block low and wait for the overhead” rule in effect, also be careful of whiffed dash uppers. Rog will most definately be going for jabs after, hoping they have baited you so don’t give it to him. Sit and wait for the tech. Harder said than done though, i hate that dust that surrounds some of his dashes. Messes up my vision.
I really think this match up is in Rog’s favour slightly. Although our damage is great, Rog has a great mix up game, great anti air normal, superior pokes and a combo>ultra off very fast, high priority normals. Yes we can both keep each other out well, you just have to be really quick on your reactions not to eat something big.
In addition, i double R Kelly’d a Gief yesterday, ending on HHS>HHS>HHSxxSuper
Shit was so righteous.
This is good advice. I play a Gouken offline, and what he really wants to do is throw LP fireballs all day. His recovery on them is good, so often he has time to AA you with LK tatsu if your jump timing is even a little off. If you get caught in this situation, chop is your best bet, but I have beaten it with a deep fierce. Another note about jumping - if you jump from under full screen over an LP fireball, expect a dash up anti air.
Gouken players have this problem with the wakeup game, so they love to do EX demon flip out of trouble, especially when in the corner. Be ready and hit them with the NJ.
If you manage to stuff that demon flip, remember that Gouken really doesn’t want to get a tatsu blocked on wakeup, since he’ll eat big damage and get another knockdown. Ochio/tick ochio are good bets.
If he’s coming at you with the flip kick, watch the timing on headbutt, time it too early and you are eating a big combo. We know hes also got some mixups on this thing, but watch out for whiff flip throw, land, throw - ultra. He’ll cross over you and go for that big damage throw.
This was mentioned earlier in the thread - you can ochio rush punch on block, but NOT EX rush punch. The pushback is too far. Do it and you are eating ultra.
Gouken has some silly tricks and resets. Watch out if he ends a combo in the corner with crouch HP, a mixup is coming. Rush punch FADC throw - ultra is another desperation gimmick. Be wary!
One final general note, this matchup is like Sagat in that sometimes, position over damage is really important. Gouken wants nothing else than to be on the other side of the screen. So be wary that you might be giving him what he wants if you hit him with a headbutt, so try to get away with splashes whenever possible. Hands only in combos. Keep him close, and watch out for the throw.
That’s what I have off the top of my head that Dodgers and TickTock didn’t touch on. I actually came here for some Gouken matchup advice, so if anyone has more I’m all ears.
PS - Big ups to Mr. SNK, Pieguy and the rest for this thread!
What’s Honda’s best anti air option after a neutral jump to avoid fireballs. I find my opponents always jump in on me after that as I won’t have headbutt charged. Honda needs to tap forward after a neutral jump to avoid the fireball.
I was watching some Akimo vids and his opponents don’t jump in after a neutral jump so I assume he was a good anti air move? Or is there a way to charge while avoiding the fireball? Thanks.
fa??? since there is nothing else you can do or just block it i prefer blocking getting thrown is nothing compared to getting comboed…
On a side note i found out that you can safely cr. jab HHS or cr jab ochio on fuertes wake up even when he has ultra…I dont know anything about frame data but i know i stuck it out as he was rising so it would hit and he would reversal ultra and i had time to neutral jump > ANYTHING I WANTED… again he activates ultra and my hand is still sticking out for the cr jab and you can just jump and big time punish…my personal fave; nj fierce cr jab ex hhsxxcr jab ex hhsxx cr jab HHS st rh
fuck rufus
he is so goddamn lame
