The New E.Honda Match-up Thread!

Honda’s jab whiffs fast enough that ELF can’t catch you with wake-up ultra. All other non-light attack meaties however are ultra-able. Trust me, I know V_V (damn shining star).

Wouldn’t crouching lk be better? Faster recovery? At least according to the frame datas and you can hit confirm lk to hands.

what does it matter

i’m facing Tsua again

he is still really tough. but i dont feel as overwhelmed as before. So far its 5-3 in his favor

btw, jab xx HHS is confirmed as punishment after 2 rekkas? I swear that shit whiffs

if they hit deep, yes. if he spaces correctly then no, it whiffs. hes -6 garaunteed, the only question is did he space it poorly enough so that the jab hits. so its on you to be able to recognize the jab range

if it’s a deep jump in then standing fierce at worst will trade with a jump in. A far jump in you can focus and back dash.

Of course, standing fierce is a character-specific anti-air, will not work on everyone…

Just something I found out for those who don’t know, Boxer’s super starts 1 frame earlier if he does the K version. In other words, he can punish EX Headbutt on block, and regardless of whether he blocks it standing or crouching.

don’t they both have 7 frame recovery but cr.lp has 4 active frames vs cr.lk’s 2 active frames? so it’s the same unless you’re timing your lp too early and hitting with the first 2 active frames.

advantage of cr.lk obviously as you mentioned is you can hit confirm and link to cr.lp xx hands. or oicho on block.
cr.lk also leaves you at more frame advantage than cr.lp on block.
cr.lk also hits low which helps if they mistime a back dash or try something stupid like hold back and press throw.

i think cr.lk is obviously better, only good thing about cr.lp is that you don’t have to worry about the link.

Ok seriously how can it be considered that ryu v. honda is a 6-4 (5.5-4.5) matchup? This is feeling worse than the Sagat matchup for me at the moment. Against decent ryu’s i feel completely hopeless, blocking crossup after crossup, teching 5+ times a match.

I feel like I get jumped in on for free when i don’t have ex stock, with standing fierce being an absolute joke of an AA against j.hk and i tend to have my lp headbutt blocked or being outright beaten. His cr.mk ruins my fucking life, and I cant even get any jab hands shenanigans going on because by the time ive finished playing mario brothers over fireballs he has two bars and is willing to gamble for that lp shoryuken fadc ultra.

I play patient as fuck, sitting through block string after block string, teching the throws until i get caught teching with an ex tatsu or ex hadou into ultra. Just take the throw you say? How is that a winning mentality? How do i generate offense with Honda against ryu?

jumping straight up in the air

You move in close enough that his offence becomes unsafe.
Not on top and not the other side of the screen.
He fireballs you jump over and pwn.
He jumps in and your new jersey slaps him down.

If you get crossed up you do what you can to get out of dodge.

Yeah it’s a tough match but Ryu is a solid character.

hit training mode. you can jump those fireballs and punnish free at certain ranges. also work your spacing. try not to jump into a spot where he can land directly on top of you without your charge. if you arent in that fireball sweetspot you should be at a range where you can neutral jump mp to stuff jumpins on reaction if you dont have a charge

there’s a few ways to get around ryu, me playing against ryu is probably the most easiest match-up for me, i’ll post a couple videos to show you how i play.

any shit on blanka?

i tend to spam lp HB’s to stuff forward balls, c.MK xx HB to punish electricity if within range. i guess random nj.HP for rainbows. electricty eats butt slam (for the most part) blanka has too many bitch ass mixup shenanigans to come in with a solid game plan.

too many good blanka’s here in socal!

Yes. Dealing with Ryu’s (and some other’s) cross-ups can be a bitch. Ex headbutt (when available) works pretty well for me. It usually either auto corrects and hits them (if properly timed) or allows you to GTFO (if done early). Even if they block it, I believe that the recovery is fast enough for you to avoid most, if not all, attempted punishments.

^ thank god for auto-correct. i dont know how many shoto j.MK crossups i’ve fucked with auto-correct ultra <3

^ yay for people who don’t understand safe jumping.

vs. ryu,

I’ve been having a little trouble with this guy lately. Sometimes, my ex headbutt gets stuffed by jfk during ryu jump in. It’s a little annoying, to be honest. I think I need to work on my timing. Ryu’s not the hardest matchup by far, but they have gotten a little more interesting since getting into G1

vs fei long,

I’ve played tusa(sp?) like three times since G1. Every time, it’s been a free win for him:lame: He turtles/runs, and I chase like an idiot, usually with a headbutt. It seems he can rekka every size headbutt? It stinks…

Not to be a dick, but it really helps to learn to walk in this game, regardless of what character you’re using (Besides Sagat).

may be common knowledge here, but found out that standing roundhouse on block will get you super-ed by chun-li. so if you get your HHS blocked while she has full meter, dont try to follow it up with anything
