The New Definitive HDTV Lag FAQ

I know this post is a bit old, but they have that model samsung at the costco here and I was thinking about getting it. Have you had a chance to do those lag tests yet? I’m really interested. I’m also posting this for anyone in the thread to answer and PMing this person himself. Help me out SRK!

as Black Friday is approaching. Might be nice to post up deals people find of TVs and monitors that are worth purchasing.

Anyone know anything bout this monitor?

How is the ASUS VH242H? someone asked about it awhile ago, but got an incomplete response.

Hey,

I just want to jump back on and thank hardbodycore for his quick reply. I have yet to go out and make a purchase - but I am absorbing everything you said - and I believe I am going to go right off the shelf with something you have suggested.

So thanks hardbodycore for all your help!

I posted it a few pages ago, but the LG 32LH30 will be $439.99 at Bestbuy

If you’re referring to the Panasonic I posted which looks to be lagless, you can still get them on Amazon for like $400.

If anyone is concerned about image retention on newer plasmas… Don;t worry about it. They have much better anti-image retention technologies in place now than they did back when the common word on the internets was, “Don’t get a plasma, they have burn-in problems”.

@ samanuske: What model is your Panasonic? The VGA port on mine reduced the input lag by maybe 2-5ms, so it MIGHT be worth it. The downside is, on the G-Series at least, the VGA port only supports up to I think 1024x768, so I don’t use it.

@seatmomike: Again, what model is your Panasonic? Having done the RB2 test and the CRT vs. Plasma stopwatch test on my TV, I can say that the RB2 test is off by anywhere between 5-10ms consistently. I don’t know if it’s that way for all displays or what, but it always added at LEAST 5ms to my response time versus what the CRT test gave me, and I trust the CRT test more.
sorry havent been on here in awhile my pannys model number is TC-42PX14

also will a dvdo edge or iscan duo solve this problem? amazon has them for 600 hundred.but at this point if the dvdo will get me close to a accepable lag it would be worth it (ive got a large dvd collection so i could use it to upscale movies also) sorry about the double post

This is a subject I toil over mercilessly and I buy hundreds of TV’s for our tours, conventions and LAN Centers. I Love the RB2 lag tests, they do help a lot as did the old school GH2-3 Lag Tests. The Monitors I love to use with VGA devices the most are 24" ACER H243H HD Monitors.

We do use a lot of HD CRT’s and have not had any more then 4-6ms losses recorded.
The ACERS I have recorded 2-4ms times on fighters, Shooters and IIDX alike.

HD Fury, I love, it is expensive, but it helps, and our Xbox VGA cables are a must.

I am looking for another set of HD CRT’s for our Brawl setups for next year, I was considering Toshida 34" HDCRT TheaterWide 34HF84 and I have a solid vendor to get them from but they are of course untested, I am sure they are more then adequate with under 1/2 frame loss as per usual. I am going to do a search and see if anyone has tested them before.

I believe the X-series was pretty decent as far as input lag goes, but I wasn’t able to find any tests for it. 2 frames isn’t really that bad for casual play, really.

As for the DVDO, frankly I’d consider that pretty spendy for what you want to do, but as far as I know it does eliminate the TV’s need to post-process. I’m not really sure if it convinces the TV not to do any of its own or what though. I only briefly looked into it and lost interest the moment I saw the price tag

I guess if you do have another use for it and are willing to spend that much, it’s all up to you. But if it were me… I’d just save a little more and get a brand new TV instead

The OP’s ViewSonic can apparently do it, although it’s pretty expensive, hard to find nowadays, and is technically a monitor.

The information in the OP is pretty out of date so I’m not sure how much stock I’d put into it. Though from what I have read, if you’re into 2 frames territory you should be fine even for high level play.

I agree its way out of date and plus I believe he used the RB2 method to test the viewsonic. I wouldn’t be surprise if it actually had 2 or more frames of lag.

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about this TV:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889101224&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction--LCD+TV--Sharp-_-89101224

Newegg has it on sale for Black Friday at a very reduced price.

I heard good things about the Sharp D65 series in terms of lag and was wondering if anyone has this set (also would like some info on picture quality since I hvaent seen it in stores).

Thanks,
Bdschuss

Just got my Asus VH236H.

Quick question: Is it lag-free only in game mode? (Hooked up via HDMI, btw.)

[quote=“samanuske”]

im very curious about this also:razz:

Wouldn’t Capcom putting in a lag adjuster in their fighting games fix all the issues?

I don’t see how Capcom could do that.

Rhythm games playback a fixed track. The developers can adjust for that because they know what is coming.

In a fighting game, the fighters’ commands are controlled by the players. The game has no way of knowing when a command is coming.

slaps forehead again.

Which set your buying inaverdy?

I hope they improve the input lag BS in SSF4. It’s a shame people have to buy new TVs or restrict the size of the monitor/tv used in order to play this game efficiently.

…it doesn’t have anything to do with the game itself.

Is anybody reading the first post at all?

Yeah, I read the OP but then I read the more current posts and they say it’s outdated.

So you’d see why I’d ask again.
