Great thread, thanks everyone, guess I’ll turn off MagicBright on my Samsung monitor when I play.
I’m thinking of getting a 32" to serve as my new computer monitor. Any suggestions?
Just got the 46" SHARP Aquos e77u and its WONDERFUL on AV MODE: GAME.
Samsung LN-T3253H, Dell 2407WFP Rev A04
I tested the video lag on a couple of screens using Rock Band 2’s automatic calibration (PlayStation 3 version). I wasn’t getting consistent results, so I ran the tests a few times to get an average.

The PS3 was connected using an HDMI cable.

Putting the TV into Game Mode seems to stabilize the video lag rather than make it any better. The averages were actually lower when running the TV in normal mode, but the lag fluctuated quite a bit.

The PS3 was connected using Component cables. This screen doesn’t support 1080p via the component inputs. I believe that 1080p will work through the VGA input, but I haven’t tried that myself.

Is the 32? Sony Bravia 720p LCD known to have no lag or something? I noticed people like to use this TV for building cabs…
I’ve never seen RB2 tests vary so wildly, but then again I’ve never tested S-PVA panels before. It might be that it’s reading somewhere between 1 to 2 frames of lag on and off for the lower values. Cheers for the results, it’s always good to see how the test behaves on different displays.
hello,
does anyone use a Samsung T240 computer monitor to play SF4? It has HDMI input.
Asking because I can pick one up for relatively free (using points on my poker account through their store) and would like to know how it performs. If it lags then I will use my points on something else. Thanks!
Just wanted to add this to the thread
LG W2753V-PF
This was the monitor used at KSKs gods garden tournament. Judging from what I saw at EVO japanese players are pretty skeptical when it comes to lag. Maybe this is a good solution. If someone fins any more info on this please post.
Not sure if anyone has tested it, but i recently bought an ASUS VK266 25.5 inch LCD monitor… it has HDMI and component inputs. after a test with Guitar Hero 3, 0 ms lags on audio or video via HDMI.
this monitor (awesome one for the price btw, and for the size)
ran the test several more times with the same result. dont have access to rockband atm, but i might try it out with a laptop later tonight.
I am very interested in this monitor, Ive been trying to find someone who has conducted a reliable lag test for it. If you conduct any further tests i would appreciate the info you gather. Thanks alot for the info…
like i said, i dont have rockband 2… but so far playing games seems quite responsive. ill see what else i can do to test stuff. i think the best thing ill be able to do is hook my old laptop to it and display a counter, and just take a pic of it.
That would be awsome. Thanks…
ahh explains why i suck at tekken 5dro! lol
i have 42’ plasma and there is a little delay in reaction time playing offline too
Evo Monitor for cheap:
Ok, so for the ASUS VK266H. I hooked my old laptop up via VGA, and ran a timer on it… apparently my camera sucks too much to capture it just right. but so far, after all the different pictures i took, it seemed to do just fine though, the pictures show’d what looked like identical images (even though the numbers were blurry as hell, due to my slow shutter speed).
i tried running what seemed like a slower flash timer someone made, and those matched up on every picture, im not sure how relevant that is though.
After a few weeks of playing on my Sharp Aquos L42D65U I thought I’d share my impressions. Playing on ps3 hooked up through hdmi, SF4 runs beautifully. I can do 1 frame links consistently and do not notice any lag. None of my friends playing on it have noticed any either. There is an oddity with Rock Band 2 however. Without calibrating at all, I am able to hit notes just fine, but there is noticeable lag during fills on drums. Very strange. I would not use RB2 as a basis for lag tests as it behaves very strangely.
I’ve had a Vizio SV420M for a couple of weeks now and I haven’t really had my gameplay hindered by any noticable lag. I do have the tv in game mode and I’m still just using xbox 360 component cables at the moment.
I used to use a Vizio VW320L for about 8 months and that was a solid entry level 720p tv as well with no noticeable lag. I did NOT have this tv in game mode ever either.
Guitar Hero demos don’t seem to give any real lag test results, and I haven’t tried renting RB2 or anything yet. Pretty sure both tvs are fine though.
What exactly do you mean Kevko? Is the sound delayed when you hit the drums, and only during the bit where you basically just bash it repeatedly? Is it okay on the parts that require actual timing?
Rock Bands timing windows are fairly lenient, and most of the time you find that you time your strikes to the beat of the music anyway. I don’t play on expert though, so I think those who do would notice more.
I should also note that timing with links is not a good way to judge lag. I played at a tournament a while back where they had this big 40’ plasma and they had to hook it up to a projector and whatever setup they had meant that the PS3 was set to 576i. It felt like it lagged like a full second behind. Stuff like reversals were inpossible to time, but I had no problems doing things like Blanka crossup j.mk, c.mk, jab, ball… cos that was all muscle memory. Meanwhile I’d miss all of my SRK punishes. ><
Anyway, if you and your friends are noticing anything at all, chances are the displays lag is low. Try one of the rock band tests a couple of times and see what numbers you get.
Hey guys, keep an eye here. In the next week or two I will try to have a massive lag test posted. The size I’m looking at are 32" LCD TVs and will try to have a range of 9+ TVs tested. I will use a CRT & SLR to test, so it should be the most accurate & complete test posted.
Awesome ts!
If you can, please test the speed difference between plugging into the HDMI port and the VGA port in the TV. I’ll be interested to see the results.
