can’t wait to see that ts279. been looking for a 32" to use in a cab.

Thanks you took the time and effort for testing the ASUS VK266H.
I have the ASUS VW266H model (one without Webcam).
Can you post the links where to download the exact timers you have used?
so i can test out my ASUS VW266H with my pc connected over hdmi.
I don’t have any of the RB2 or GH games so i cant test with those.
also a CRT monitor + vga splitter i don’t have at the moment.
need to visit a flea market sometime soon to find a
good deal for a CRT + vga splitter.
I received the 2nd ASUS VW266H monitor today, unfortunately it did got one stuck light blue lighted up pixel in the lower middle of the screen but it does not bother me personally during gameplay.
I also received the IBERIA PC Splitter HDMI 1x male --> 2 x female. It was very cheap
for 11,90. honestly i didn’t expect much from it, but personally i could not see any difference between quality or noticed any lag so far.
However i did discover that my sound did not worked on both of the ASUS VW266H monitors when using this splitter, but i could fix that problem by using the xbox 360 audio cable and some external speakers.
Next step i want to expand my setup with is the ability to record games with it.
Its time for me to dig SRK for this.
User this timer here. Really, nearly any should do. Open up multiple instances of the timer and spread them around your screen. That way when taking photos with the shutter setting up and parts of the screen are covered in black you’ll be able to make at least part of it out.
That’s disappointing to hear about the speakers, but if they are anything like the speakers on my friends VH226H, I guess it doesn’t matter. He can’t get any volume cranked out of that thing.

For the games recording thread.
Definately… I made arrangements to do all the testing this Sunday, so I should be able to post the results on Monday. I will try to test some larger TVs also, if I have time.
Ts, you have the power to turn this thread from a complete joke into one of credibility. Good luck with your tests and thank you for your effort. Eagerly awaiting some SCIENTIFIC numbers…
Thought I might post in this thread to note that my Konka KL42CS62Q (42" 1080p LCD) has no detectable lag. I did the calibration test in GH2 (Rock Band 2 isn’t out in NZ :crybaby:) and got 7ms the first time and 0ms every other time, for the six or seven attempts I made.
I deliberately bought it for being cheap enough to lack post-processing, and the gamble paid off. :smokin: Now if I can only convince it to work with my X360’s HDMI port (I’m pretty sure it doesn’t support HDCP, and I’m using component instead)…
I’ve been using the VW266H for a while now. No complaints and no complaints at gatherings.
RB1 test shows zero lag. Compared with Y-cable on old Dell plasma that had lag. And I just jumped up and down in training mode and you can already see the difference.
I didn’t do the timer test, but I’m confident it has no lag. I’ve played on arcade cabs too and it feels the same.
Yep, like i said, this thread is a joke…STILL IS…but i happened to lurk soon enough to learn that at least one person is gonna provide detailed effort with actual numbers and vigorous tests, so i will try to keep my pessimism under control…
Unless you’re that person providing detailed effort, then yes, please keep it to yourself. Pointing out where people is wrong is one thing, mocking their efforts is another.
For those that have bought the Asus VW266H, can somebody tell me something? The aspect ratio of the screen is 16:10. Does it stretch the image to full screen in game, or does it put black bars above/below the image?
My friend bought the vw266h. On hdmi 1080p, if you have the monitor on 1:1 mode, it will properly put black bars on top and bottom of the picture, giving it a perfect 16:9 screen. If you switch it to Full mode, it will stretch the image to full screen.
However, on hdmi 720p (or lower), with the monitor at 1:1 mode, you’ll get an actual image size of the picture, which is a lot smaller than the screen size of the monitor and it’s not ideal to play on since the picture is so small. But, if you switch the monitor to Full mode, it will be just how it was in 1080p’s full mode, with the picture stretched to full screen.
So in the end, we’re forced to play sf4 and other native 720p games on the ps3 stretched to a 16:10 image on this monitor, but it beats playing on a laggy hdtv by a lot.
32" Lag Testing - First Attempt
First I would like to appologize. Due to some difficulties, I was not able to test all the TV’s I was planning. I am a manager at a Best Buy store & am planning on testing our entire stock of 32" TVs, but can only due this after hours on Sundays. My next Sunday is already booked, so the rest of the tests will have to wait a couple weeks. Here are the 3 TVs I was able to test so far…
Dynex DX-L32-10A (720p reg $379)
HDMI @ 720p = 26ms lag
LG 32LH30 (1080p reg $749)
HDMI @ 720p = 32ms lag
HDMI @ 1080p = 31ms lag
Samsung LN32B640 (1080p 120hz reg $999)
-these tests were done with 120hz turned off-
HDMI @ 720p (Standard) = 98ms lag
HDMI @ 720p (Game) = 50ms lag
HDMI @ 1080p (Standard) = 93ms lag
HDMI @ 1080p (Game) = 64ms lag
VGA @ 720p = 79ms lag
VGA @ 1080p = 67ms lag
Again, sorry if I didn’t test all on these TVs, but had some difficulties. These tests were done compaired to a CRT monitor and based on an average of 10 SLR shots. As I can, I will revisit these and test the rest of our TVs. Next time I post any results will have to wait a few weeks though (busy schedule).
Awesome of you to do this, ts! Do any of those TVs have a game mode and did you use it for these tests?
Good stuff ts279!
Can you test the Dynex DX-L32-10A on VGA mode if it has one? Thanks for taking the time to do this.
The Samsung had a game mode as was shown, the LG game setting seemed to only affect image settings but I will revisit this, the Dynex had no game mode.
I will go back & test the Dynex VGA port next round.
Oh, heh – I’m an idiot.
I’m curious how much slower LCDs are with 120 Hz on. If you get a chance, it would be good to know. I generally just leave it on, and while it doesn’t really seem to affect my ability to play SF, it also doesn’t really visually boost SF much if at all.
Thank you so much for doing this. I hope we find a good low-latency TV.
I recently bought a Sharp LC40E67UN because I was led to believe it was low-latency. I’ll be returning it, unfortunately, because it just doesn’t feel fast enough – I called Sharp and was told this monitor doesn’t have Vyper-drive, despite it being advertised as having such on most websites (neither the manual nor the box make any mention of it, though). If I had a CRT display and a VGA splitter, I’d do some real tests, but I have neither.
[EDIT: The LC40E77U (the 120 Hz version of the TV I bought) was tested as having <1 frame of input lag with 1080p inputs on AVS Forum; that’s largely why I bought it. The Guitar Hero test says 0 ms of lag on both video and audio, but that’s unreliable. It may be that this is as good as it gets at this point, so maybe I’ll keep it after all.]
