awesome bro!
got to admit I’m a anal freak! just gotta be sure that 24 incher is perfect.
on a side note i already ordered the 23 incher and if it turns out perfect, i’m gonna order a 24 incher. :bgrin:

I have the ASUS VK222 monitor (22" with camera on top). I have played it in SF4 using my xbox, settings at 1080i with an HDMI cable, and not really noticed any lag while playing and neither have my guests who have played on it. I was missing one combo a lot more than I did previous to buying this monitor, Ryu’s ‘focus crumple->dash->forward fierce’ which is one of the few combo’s I rely on visual cues for rather than pure muscle memory so it made me worried.
I took a DVI cable and hooked it to the extra port on my laptop, set the dual monitor set up to clone mode through my NVIDIA control panel, and used http://tft.vanity.dk/inputlag.html to test it. I let that run and took 100 pictures with a very high quality camera. The results were bad, only about 1/10th of the pictures had both monitors at the milliseconds, and roughly 30% were 20-25 ms off, the rest somewhere in between. This means I am almost constantly having between 1-2 frames of lag, no where near acceptable.
I want to know if there is any way this test is inconclusive. Does using different cables make a difference? (xbox runs on hdmi, comp connected through dvi) Does the laptop screen screw with things? Any resolution or refresh rate things I didn’t know about? Would using a different cord entirely like investing in a VGA cable make a difference?
If this test turns out to be conclusive then at least this lets people know that this isn’t a monitor for SF4.
Thanks for any help I can get.
While I haven’t yet had time to read through all the pages of the thread yet, I must applaud everybody who’s contributed information thus far. I’ve really learned quite a bit.
The frustrating part (for me at least) about getting a new HDTV is that I hear so many conflicting answers to my questions. Some places will tell me one thing, while other places will tell me another. Keeping in mind that some TVs pay salespeople bigger spiffs, I can’t exactly say that I feel like I’ve been getting quality information…especially when it comes to gaming related questions to them.
I think I’ve finally decided on the TV for me. It’s a 47" LG LCD w/120hz. The model number is 47LH40 and it’s reported to have a 2.7ms response time. I’ve seen it a few times in person, and it looks great. Obviously, I haven’t actually tested it with something like SFIV or BlazBlue yet however.
I plan on picking it up at the end of August (possibly a bit sooner), and I’ll let you guys know what I think about it. Currently, I’m using a 32" RCA tube SDTV and the most frustrating thing about it is that I absolutely CANNOT read small text (it looks all garbled and fuzzy).
Thanks again for the info everybody.

the dude compared compared a 42LH40 and a 42LH30 and said that the 42LH40 has 1 frame more lag compared to the 42LH30.
srk member onimusha10154 tested the 32LH30 and said there’s 2 frame lag…
http://forums.shoryuken.com/showpost.php?p=7139786&postcount=786
so i would assume that the 47LH40 will have atlease 3 frames of lag…all theory though …
Hate to bother you guys, but I have a question. I’ve read a lot of the posts here but I guess I couldn’t quite grasp everything.
I’m getting an ASUS VH236H. Now, am I gonna run into any problems if I hook it up with my PS3 through HDMI or do I need to get a VGA cable for best results ?
“Turns out, many (but not all) HDTVs don’t have postprocessing enabled on the VGA port only. That means if you simply plug your PS3/X360 into the VGA port, you should be able to both get high-definition output (with Blu-Ray support, etc) but avoid the 40+ms lag induced by most consumer HDTV postprocessing.”
So, I’d only have a problem if the ASUS VH236H has this postprocessing issue cited above, correct ? Then, I guess the question should be does the ASUS VH236H suffer from this ?
Thanks.
They’ve got the ps3’s hooked up using hdmi on that monitor at evo. I’ve also got my ps3 hooked up to one using hdmi and like they said, there’s no lag.
I’m not trying to question Evo’s reputation, but has this been tested before by people ? (Or aliens ?)
Thanks for the reply celcius. I appreciate it.
So, anyways, I sell TVs, and it had occurred to me the other day that a majority of them (anymore at least) boast 5 ms response times.
Also, should I just buy GH3 for $9 new, or spend the extra for RB2 to test lag?
I’m not 100 percent clear on the whole hdtv lag issue and was hoping people could clarify some things for me. A friend of mine has an hdtv and playing ps3 sf4 on it has me convinced it lags, eg simple two frames links with ryu are more difficult yet give me no problem when I play on my sdtv. Is this lag being caused by the hdtv not having a native resolution of 720p to match sf4’s 720 video output? In addition, would I be able to avoid lag for 720p games by simply purchasing any hdtv with 720p native resolution?
Response time has nothing to do with input lag.
First post stuff, guys.
Lots of posts with “I don’t feel any lag”, and not really actual tests aside from the Evo monitor link above.
Boo.
Update guys:
Well after looking around google on more info on my specific TV model in question (which is a 50" Plasma Panasonic TH-50PX60U, one of the earlier popular TVs at 720p native) I found out that this TV has no input lag IF connected through HDMI. However, I have an old school Xbox 360 so I will be buying a HDMI converter kit for it and will do some tests with Rockband 2.
As soon as I get my converter I’ll post back my results. This may help out a few people out there with the same TV model as me or people just trying to gather more info on Plasmas and input lag.
Keep in mind this is an older TV set from the early launch of HDTVs, was released in 2006. So perhaps it doesn’t have all the post processing functions the more modern TVs of today have. Also the fact that it is Plasma, and it doesn’t have a “Gaming” mode.
For sure though, this TV does lag immensely through Component on the 360, at a whooping 30-40 ms. So avoid that connection at all costs.
To answer GOLDN’s question…the 24 inch Asus monitor should be just as lag free as any of the other VH models. Outside of screen size their specs are completely the same.
To answer Stranger’s question…the VH236H was tested by Ponder to have zero lag with an HDMI port.
Technically we still had to deal with lag at Evo because no one could earn any trophies. Random half second game pauses during intense Evo matches is always fun.
Ah yeah my bad. So that’s what the vastly repeated all caps and bolded text in that first post meant. :bottle: I’m sorry haha I did read that but it was over a week ago.
I think this question was asked before in this thread, but I’m not sure there has been an answer:
Has there been a comprehensive test result list for HDTV’s yet. The reason I ask is because a lot of people (much like myself) are looking for a new HDTV and don’t want to have to wade through a million pages of testing (and flaming, and misinformation). I’ve done a bit of my own research, but I’d really like actual #'s to compare.
Perhaps we need to start a secondary thread that has nothing but test results and links to the threads that show the data?
Also, side note, I’ve been reading up on the Viera line, and I’m wondering if anyone has any experience with the 1080p models. The reason I ask is that I have the option of either getting the older confirmed model (if I can find one) or pick up the new model (which I can get in a 46" size… preferable).
Thanks DevilJin for the reply !
So, was that just a random malfunction they had or did anyone else had any hiccups with that model as well ?
jigga my nigga! thanks for the input dawg :bgrin:
i’d played it on the safe side and got the VH236H monitor and love it. I’d hooked up a DC through vga and played mvc2 on it. it almost seems perfect (lagless-ness) but at the same time it still “feels” slight off. maybe because its in wide screen mode, dunno, but this is the 1st best lcd monitor i’ve played on. MY HP1220 crt is fockin hands down god like, took me $200 just for shippin alone to get it to Hawaii.
anyhow, i am looking into the 24 or 26 ASUS. any input on the 26" lagless-ness DevilJin???
thanks for the great infot
***side note (for all) hope some one will compile a list of guaranteed lcd monitor perfect for gaming. theres like a zillion pages of info on this and even after reading all this i can’t really remember jack
Well according to obscure, not all asus monitors are lag free, so we got some testing to do.
/\ /\ maybe got to stay away from the ASUS VKxxx models. those camera thangy’s on those model could possibly be the culprit for the lag… …?
how accurate is the guitar hero test?
i have tested 3 tvs all with 0ms lag
old LG plasma not sure what model but about 4 years old
Samsung series 5 LCD
Panasonic plasma G10
I was using GH demo all normal settings connected by HDMI.
