Could anyone here recommend some Commercial-grade HDTVs other than the
ViewSonic?
Thanks for impressions! I was looking for a good monitor to buy for my future gaming pc + xbox 360 and ps3. Very glad that this monitor has no lag as I’ll be playing a lot of fighting games. This was pretty much the last thing I needed for my future PC so thanks.
Stumbled across this thread and now I’m interested in testing my TV.
Currently, I’m using a Vizio VW320L (32" 720P) and just the standard XBox 360 HD component cable. I haven’t been using Game Mode, but after reading this thread a little, I am now. I am interested in testing the TV’s lag so I think I’ll get to work on that in the near future. This TV has treated me very well over the past year and I don’t really notice lag while gaming, but perhaps I am just used to it.
Also, I just ordered a Vizio SV420M (42" 1080p 120 Hz) and I will test that as well and post results.
I didn’t read through more than a few pages of this thread, but I’m guessing the HDMI cable might reduce any lag slightly because the signal is not compressed as it is through a component cable? So how does HDMI compare to VGA when playing games that are native 1080p?
My 360 is a first gen so there is no HDMI port. I was planning on getting a newer 360, but if VGA is just as good then perhaps I don’t need to.
Thanks in advance and I’ll get to work!
I’m looking to get a 50 incher for the living room as a general purpose HDTV including gaming, anything out there in that size? I can deal with a frame of lag but anything over that starts messing with me. Trying to get REAL (non GH/RB) lag numbers on avsforum is like pulling teeth
It’s a shame that I sell the damn things, yet I can’t test game consoles on them.
yes, thanks for posting your results. I’ve narrowed my choices down to this same monitor or the viewsonic vx2433. they’re both available at the local fry’s, so being able to return/exchange it is a big deal to me. i’ve heard horrible stories about newegg’s return policy.
so how is the audio on the asus? i’ve read that the audio tends to cut out during gameplay which for me will take away from the overall enjoyment of it all. I also have a pre-HDMI xbox, so would vga be my best route, or should i stick to standard component hd??..any feedback would greatly be appreciated. thanks in advance.
okay so let me get this straight. i think i understand but there is one thing throwing me off. it says that sf4 is standard output at 720
I am looking at getting a samsung ln32a650 or the ln40a650. ive read most of this thread and http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1110472
all i am concerned about is playing my ps2 sf/fate unlimited codes/ darkstalkers and my ps3 sf/bb games without lag.
my understanding is that with this particular model, there is no lag under the vga port. so, and PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG, im thinking that if I get the vga converter for my ps3 i will be able to enjoy blu ray movies and zero lag sf/bb (although some picture quality may be sacrificed). the same goes for the ps2, although another converter needs to be purchased.
So, using the hdfury cable for the ps3 and using this information about the tv:
VGA mode / 1080p.
Average lag: 0-8ms
0.0-0.5 frame delay.
Average FD: 0.3 Frame (~a third of a frame)
59.7 cycles per second (of 60)
Zero/Undetectable lag to humans.
(approved for pro level gaming)
VGA mode / any PC resolution accepted by the 650. 480P and 720P will not work in VGA.
Average lag: 0-8ms
0.0-0.5 frame delay.
Average FD: 0.3 Frame (~a third of a frame)
59.7 cycles per second (of 60)
Zero/Undetectable lag to humans.
(approved for pro level gaming)
should sf4 on the ps3 be playable under these conditions with the hdfury cable using my ps3?
with the HD Probox will I be able to use my ps2 under these conditions?
i apologize if these questions have already been answered or are blatant in this thread somewhere. there is a LOT of info in this thread and it can sometimes be overwhelming/too much for tech ignorant people like myself trying to find the right tv. i have read all of cynn’s posts and the others and it seems like the verdict is that this would be legit. I am just trying to make sure I understand before I blow half my summer savings on this baby.
and poonage check the arcade cab thread or shoot me a pm
I’m about to start buiding a cab around an LG W2442PA 24" monitor and I started reading this thread in horror :xeye: I checked around and found this which seems to show some reasonable performance from the monitor:
Put my mind at rest for now but I’ll test it out myself at some point.
I only have about 8 hours on it so far. I haven’t had any issues with the audio cutting out. Me and my friend plays about 60-70 matches straight and didn’t have any problems that caught our attention.
I have the 52A650 and it is awesome for gaming, on the 360. On the PS3, you may have a problem. From the AVS thread you linked:
"Now the problem with using HDMI2/PC Mode (and again, widely known) is that it only functions correctly when a 1080p signal is being sent to the television. If it is anything under, it automatically comes out of PC mode and the significance of lag free gaming with the option for picture adjustments is completely thrown out. Now one may ask why this would be an issue for gamers & I’ll tell you why. The PS3 does not scale it’s 720p titles to 1080p (and the majority of titles are 720p).
So basically, there are tons of PS3 gamers out there with the LN46A650 who wish to have lag free gaming, yet cannot stand the look of the televisions Game Mode due to the fact picture adjustments are not available. One of the 2nd options for them is to use HDMI2 in PC Mode but when a non 1080p game is played - the sets PC mode automatically shuts off - again leaving the only option is to revert back to the bad looking/non adjustable Game Mode."
SF4 runs at 720, and there is no way to set the ps3 to output 1080, so the 650 will have to do the scaling. That means lag. You’ll have to use game mode and there will be some lag. I’ve hooked up a ps3 to my set and played sf4 and the input lag was noticeable.
Best bet is to hook up your ps3 to one at the store and see if it bothers you. Good luck!
edit: i dont know if the HDfury cable changes anything in this equation, hopefully someone else knows.
According to avsforums, hdfury will not help on the 650 tv’s because the ps3 will still play the game at 1280x720 and this resolution is not supported on the vga input of this tv. It also won’t support 720x480 resolutions on the vga either, which is what the ps3 outputs as well when set to 480p. PS3 ppl really are out of luck with this tv when playing non-1080p games. It will only benefit 360 consoles.
Okay cool. I think Im leaning more towards the asus. Did you set the monitor to 1080p or 720p??
How much better is Rock Band 2 compared to a Guitar Hero game for testing lag? I know RB2 is automated more or less, but is is actually more accurate or is Guitar Hero 2 (or newer) just as accurate? I ask because I can get a new copy of GH3 for $9 from work.
Thanks in advance.
anybody have info on the 24" version of the ASUS lcd monitor (W246H)?
just need to know if it lags
and if its equal to its little brother VH236H (23 in version)
:china: thank god for this awesome thread!!!
I just hooked up my new Sharp 42" D65U tv this week. Still waiting for my hdmi cable to arrive, but was bored so I tried out SF4 with the standard cables. Played with AV mode set to “Game” but experienced noticeable lag. I was a little surprised since I have a friend with a D64U and he says that older systems such as the ps2 did not have noticeable lag. I’m still confident it will be fine with hdmi hooked up though, as I’ve read nothing but positive reports while searching online.
Anybody else have a Sharp D65U? Please share your experience.
Here’s a relevant review that was (I think) linked a few pages back, but yeah. The review is much longer but here’s the input lag part of it…
The review is for the monitor you’re looking at, but the version with the attached webcam at the top (Model VK246H versus VW246H). I personally have this monitor (the VW246H) and it feels fine to me, but I haven’t done any tests on it. I think you’ll be fine if you decide to go with either the 23" Evo one or the 24", but if you aren’t completely reassured, just go with the Evo standard 23" one, so you KNOW you’re playing on major tourney-approved stuff.
Anyway, hope this helped, and good luck!
I tested with Rock Band 2 and it worked great.
But I am confused though, Component is an analog connection. So how come I still get input lag on my HDTV through component and 0 lag with VGA on my monitor? They are both analog.
The HDTV probably processes the component signal in an effort to “optimize” it whereas it probably blits out the VGA signal directly with no processing.
I see, that really sucks. I am looking at different converters to see how I can use my 720p plasma for playing SF. I get pretty bad 30ms delay on it through component. I’m pretty stuck since it doesn’t have a VGA port. Only HDMI , S video and component/RCA.
I’m thinking what if I use the VGA adapter cable with the xbox, then connect the VGA end to a VGA-Component adapter and that directly to the TV? Looked for a VGA-HDMI adapter but looks like there is no such thing.
Here is an example:
http://diamondcase.com/Knowledge/Knowledge_HTML/PC_On_TV.HTML
Scroll to the bottom to see the VGA to TV converter. I am wondering if this could work on a HDTV without a VGA port? By using the converter to force a VGA signal through component or HDMI?
Component signals are compressed signals from what I’ve read.
