^ Probably the ones with cathode-ray tubes in them. What’d you expect? We’re in a recession, dawg! :bgrin:
Fighting game tournaments have always been ghetto scrape-together-what-you-can affairs anyway: “Dude bring your TV, I’ll get my sister’s and maybe the bar will have one we can use.” It’s amazing that Evo owns TV’s at all.
Has anybody tried the mayflash cable? I can’t seem to find anybody else that has made one of these cables. Also how can I tell if my tv doesn’t post process th vga port?
question…i have a sony kdl-w4100 and have felt like there might be some lag even with game mode on and stuff so im going to try the vga connect for 360…but my question is when i looked at the back of my tv to see if there even was a vga port there was but the audio is just 1 hole instead of the red/white that i was expecting…so this might be a super scrubby question but does vga carry audio like hdmi or what do i use to get audio out of that input since the 360 cable has the white/red plugs
If my tv’s native resolution is1080p and the signal it recieves from the game is 720p ( or vice versa) does that garuntee that i will have lag on any port i use
What resolution are xbox360 games more specifically street fighter IV
It does not guarantee anything. The set will still do it’s usually picture processing and refinement before displaying so it’s very plausible that there would be input lag, even at a native resolution, more so if the resolution is anything different.
Awesome thread with some very compelling information, thank you very much for the info. I do have a query though
Knowing that Rock Band 2’s calibration test is better, how close is Guitar Hero 2’s calibration test margin of error compared to Rock Band 2’s. Is GH2 a really acceptable and accurate way to measure my lag, or will it only get me into the ball park?
I ask this because I can easily borrow a copy of Guitar Hero 2 ((and 3)) from a friend, but getting a copy of Rock Band 2 would be more of a hassle.
Yep, that is exactly what you need–but actually, if you buy the Microsoft brand X360 VGA Cable, it already comes with one!
If GH2 is the only one you have easy access to, that’s totally fine. The only difference is that it requires user input, so you need decent timing to produce accurate results. Here are a few tips:
Mute your sound (so that you pay attention only to the video)
Run the test more than once
Don’t “cheat” by hitting the button early; do it just as you would if you wanted a “Just Great” on Beatmania or a “Perfect” in DDR.
Anybody know how the Rockband 2 test works? I’m guessing it projects a sound and then calculates the time it takes for the mic to catch the sound it makes. Which isn’t necessarily the best method, since that would mean that the sound would have to be perfectly in sync with the picture, also implying that manufacturers have exact numbers on how much their TVs lag in each mode. Doubtful.
Um, I don’t think sound has anything to do with it. You have to strum the notes as they pass the target on the screen, and the computer knows how late you are = lag +/- user error. Turning the sound off helps with your accuracy. It could probably calculate audio lag with the mic though, if that’s what you meant.
