Where can I find the best settings for TVs and Monitors? I’ve seen them on some sites but don’t know where to find them again. I don’t really know what the optimal settings for the Asus VH236h are. I use “Game Mode” right now because the brightness helps in FPS games, but it’s definitely not as vibrant as it could be. “Scenery Mode” and “Theater Mode” are more vibrant colored but the darks are too dark.

EDIT: after hearing about stuck pixels I decided to check my own motor to see if I had any. While playing Blazblue I could not find any at all, then I turned off my PS3 so I could get a plain blue screen and examine better. There is one, waaay down in the bottom left corner, and I can only see it if I look at an angle. It doesn’t bother me at all, it’s so tiny that I can’t even see it when staring right at its location during gameplay.

Well those are the ones you can live with, it’s the ones that are in the dead centre of the screen that drive you insane

I have been to a shop yesterday to buy a new TV.

I explained the lag issue with games to the guy there who was supposed to be the super technician about HDTVs (This is how they introduced him to me), and I wanted him to recommend me a model.

He checked a few models, and finally recommended me a Sony Bravia 4O LCD TV that was supposed to be 240Hz. And he said that this TV is DA Shit for games because the 240Hz will limit the lag!

Personally I don’t really see the connection between the frequency and the input lag… so I didn’t buy it, but I might be wrong.

Was the guy a douche or an underrated genius?

Ninja-Edit:

BTW, it was that one here:

woohoo!!! just won/bought a Viewsonic CD4220 commercial display…

I’m currently running a 50" Philips plasma that I never thought lagged until I ran GHII’s calibration tool and I’m running an average of 52ms lag :frowning:

I checked ebay every day until I saw this auction come up - it is actually a pawn shop that was selling 2 new in the box… I bet an office went under and unloaded two unopened displays…

my only challenge now is speakers and a stand - with these commercial displays everything is optional!!!

I will post new lag results once I receive the tv and get it set up…

better get on this quick, the ebillme promo expires today!

Your suspicions are correct, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Most people that have done their research on HDTVs has been for home theatre setups where picture quality is the focus. Higher refresh rates won’t improve input lag.

My friend who bought the vh222h turned on ‘game mode’ in our testing just to see if it improved at all… it actually added a couple of ms!

Nice.
It’s probably exactly the same as the Evo monitor. It’s weird that they had occasional shots that had two frames of lag though. That doesn’t really make sense.

@Zanken: Thanks for the input! …Glad I didn’t buy it then! I thought it sounded weird.

any experience with Vizios? just wondering what people have faced with their hdtvs

Not sure if this is a huge no-no, but as I was cleaning the screen today, I poked the stuck pixel ever-so-softly, and it went away. :wonder: Also got rid of one in the lower right corner that I didn’t find til today.

Rubbing out stuck pixels is a known method for dealing with them – and you seem to have done it perfectly by going very gently.

If you do try to rub one out (lol) then just make sure to go softly (so softly you think it’s not doing anything is a good place to start usually) and to give up before you damage anything (which usually comes just before you think you’re going to damage something.)

Stuck or dead pixels can also sometimes be fixed by playing very volatile video (there are programs out there to generate it.)

Best Buy has what is for all intents and purposes the same monitor as the Evo one, save for having a 5ms response time.

Good, bad, gtfo? :wasted:

Lucky!

I had been trying for 2 weeks to get rid of mine, and it never went away, hopefully with this replacement I’ll be better off.

23.6" Evo Monitor Equivalent on sale for $170 until Sunday.

It has HDMI, Vga, Dvi, audio out, and speakers.
It has a ASCR Contrast ratio of 20000:1
Spec page says 5 ms response time, as opposed to the 23" or 21" 2 ms GTG response time, but GTG and normal resposne time are different. GTG is generally lower.

I’m most likely gonna get one

I think its quite good value for money considering the price.

Hmmm, I had a question maybe someone could answer for me, maybe Zanken could.

Is there a way other than testing physically to determine if the VGA port performs any post-processing? I have yet to find one that does, but the OP mentions it’s possible.

Thanks a lot everyone for all input of this thread. Originally i was
planning to blow near 2000 euro very soon to purchase a HDTV
for gaming, then i discovered this input lag issue here at SRK.

Thinking of purchasing the Asus VW266h monitor, well actually
2 of them as i want to create a dual setup by cloning the same
image with a video signal splitter so each player have its own display.

I have no idea if cloning an image can cause input lag issues?

Is there anyone here at SRK who owns and tested this
Asus VW266h with the xbox 360 over HDMI or VGA?
PS3 feedback is also welcome as i plan on purchasing a ps3
near the end of this year.

Thanks in advance

I am looking to buy a new TV real soon and would like to know what televisions were used at evo pools and main stage ?

woah
