I personally don’t really care about the audio “problem”…the speakers on the monitor aren’t that great any ways. Can’t turn up the volume too loud on them and you’re better off getting real speakers.
BTW what exactly do you need to get a 360/PS3 to connect to the monitor via VGA?
Yeah it’s a monitor audio output issue. I’m just saying if you’re that picky about the sound you might as well buy speakers or use speakers from your existing monitor to go with the monitor if/when you buy a VGA cable. I’m used to playing with multiple people in the same room with other games/noises going on so having the sound quiet down for a split second after the vs. screen or during the intro isn’t a big deal for me.
For competitive purposes I just need to be able to hear sound effects and voices. Which default come out much louder than the music and the monitor won’t cut that out during play using HDMI. Default the music is made to be quieter than the sound effects any ways. That seems to be the trend with a lot of Japanese fighting games these days. Sometimes I like to have my own music playing over the game which you can adjust volume for. At Evo…you’ll be lucky if you can hear the sound effects. Max volume is very low on these monitors (compared to a consumer grade TV) and it’d be nice if they had speakers hooked up to them. I’ve already heard of a couple cases of the monitor’s speakers blowing out any ways.
No it’s basically the same signal. The only problem is that if a monitor doesn’t have a hdmi port it may not be htcp compliant, and you’d just see a black screen when trying to use the PS3.
Deviljin, all you need for 360 is VGA cable which you should be able to find cheap on Ebay. PS3 is more complicated though, requiring a HDfury adapter which could cost up to a couple of hundred dollars. Why would you need to go through VGA though? That display is tried and tested to be lagless through HDMI by SRK staff.
With the PS3 at least, you can choose a different audio source. Buy a female red/white to male 3.5 stereo (typical PC speaker input) converter and some PC speakers and you’re set. Much cheaper than a HDfury.
Oh ok Zanken…I was only inquiring based on the fact that VGA apparently won’t cause the audio issue. Which I personally don’t really have a problem with. I figured speakers would fix the problem any ways cuz I’m not really a big fan of the speakers on the monitor. It is nice that they are built in though.
Just FYI i got the vga cable for my 360. I did a few tests and got something like 10ms on my HP Plasma. From before when i was getting something like 50-60ms (this was doing the rock band test using just my stick)
I’m going to do about 5 tests tonight to make sure i’m still in the 10ms range.
Has anyone taken a look at this set? http://www.digitalconnection.com/products/directview/dm7352sf.asp
As far as I know its the only 720p capable CRT. Sure its over 200lbs and more than a much larger LCD, but it should be full resolution and completely lag free for SFIV AND previous gen consoles.
I ended up here not because i play a lot of fighting games but because i am looking for a lag free monitor for Xbox/PS3 in general. Couple questions
What is this EVO thing i see mentioned a few times? The official Evo display (Asus 23" VH236h)? Are there any reviews or forum threads around to read about the monitor? How does the ASUS VW246H fair?
question for anyone who uses a hauppage PVR to record your games.
If i go like xbox composite to PVR then composite to vga to my TV/Monitor do i have any issues of lag to worry about? I don’t know how that device works wondering if anyone does.
I am interested in the VH236H. Can I switch between 2 digital inputs? My PC and PS3 shares the same monitor atm. PC uses VGA & PS3 uses DVI. Right now I just switch the between analog <-> digital manually on the monitor with a few clicks. The reason I ask this is because I won’t go dual monitor.
I ended up taking back my Sharp due to that damn component blackout problem, I was supposed to get firmware from Sharp Canada about 2 weeks ago, but it seems they’re pretty inept/lazy.
I’m not sure if I’m gonna buy back the same model or just get that new G series model.
